I agree that the rule is clear and those who violate it should be ineligible - just as it states. However, in my opinion the only thing that should matter is age - I think they should look at removing this rule. What difference does it make if the kid is held back in 6th/7th/8th/10th grade as long as he or she is under the age limit. Will they someday implement a rule that kids can't start the 1st grade late or they won't be able to play their senior year??? Haddix is the perfect example. His grades were terrible until he was held back. Now he has over a 3.0 GPA. He is under the "age limit" rule. He broke the rule and is ineligible (as he should be) but I would think the KHSAA might look at his case and see that this rule is not in the best interests of the kids. The player who is in this same situation is not on the Scott Co. team any more - by his own choice from what I understand.

Both teams should be fresh - with their first round games seeing the benches play lots of minutes.

I think there is a lot of respect for the programs - both ways, but there is no fondness between the two - it's a pretty heated rivalry... which I think is great. In this world of inclusion and acceptance - we all need a good rivalry where anger and distrust push us to a higher level of achievement... deep thoughts by YODA.

Tournaments never accept coaching passes.. The 5/3 at Lex Cath - King of the Bluegrass in Louisville - etc. The District and Regional tournaments never accept passes either. Also - it's not a school decision in this case - the Region host school/district makes those types of decisions.

I hope Walls shoots it good in this gym - he might be there the next 4 years raining jumpers... I agree with knightsdad that style of officiating will have a great impact on this game. If they call fouls when Novosel goes to the basket from his post position yet don't when Mackey drives from the perimeter - my Cards could be in trouble. If they let SC hand check and be physical in the full court pressure but don't let Catholic's post players bump and push - SC should be in good shape. Hopefully there will be three good ones there to let the players decide this game.

There is an argument here if they left the starters/regular varsity players in when they were up that much... If the players from the end of the bench are in the game - for some of the few minutes they actually get to see the floor - then they should play as hard and as GOOD as they can. Those kids work hard every day in practice and are trying to work their way up the playing time ladder. Against Frankfort last night I was very proud of a couple of kids - Senior Mason Karrick and Senior Cameron Mingua... they have had to sit and watch and cheer all year during the games - but they work very hard and have good attitudes all the time. When they get into a game (and are playing against the starters from the other team) - they should be able to PLAY. I'm against the showboating and the last second shot is not necessary, but there are two sides to the story... Sometimes it's not about running up the score - it's about preparing your own team for the next game in the tournament.

There was a premature thread about this one, but now that its official... Two titans of hoops square off in the semi-finals of the 11th region tournament Saturday at 1pm @ EKU. Scott Co. escaped with a win at Lex Cath - Walls was huge coming back after having to leave the game with a bloody gash next to his eye. What are your thoughts?

MC fans love their team and are pretty emotional... They push the issue with some of their antics - especially at MC - where it is hard to shoot from the corner (in front of their student section) because the students are on the floor. I wasn't there to see it last night, but I'm sure the student section was out in full-force. I've posted this before, but I'd much rather be at an MC game with the emotion of 300 kids who are totally into the game than to watch a Lexington school who has no fan base...

No truth to this. I talked to Scott tonight at the game. His quote was, "I'd have to be crazy to go up there into that mess..."

Walls and Mackey did not play the 2nd half at all. Good game from Tyler Portwood and Jordan Lee on the boards. They were flying around tonight. Jordan Adams also played a nice game off the bench.

Too bad for my boys at Conner. I'm sure Coach L and his staff remember when Conner snuck up on them before - and scouted hard enough that it wouldn't happen again. Congrats to Cov. Cath...

Does anyone know who the leading candidates are for this vacancy? Will the coaching replacement effect VanHoose's decision to go there? The rule is in place - no doubt - but it sucks anyway. The age limit should be sufficient. The hold-back rule is not necessary... I hate it for Combs. Good family - good kid - good player.

Toughest - 11th Next Toughest - 7th Worst - not going there Who deserves to win it all? It's not a "deserves to" thing... Many teams "deserve to" - but only one team will... A lot of preparation combined with a little bit of luck makes a champion.

I have to disagree with FB - I think it does matter if you live in that town or if you are an alum. There is added pressure knowing you really do have to shop at Wal-mart/go to church/eat at restaurants/etc - with the people who just berated you at the game the night before. There is enough pressure on the officials - and there are plenty of other games to call. The assigning secretary should not allow this to happen - common sense.
