Holmes can't seem to keep Rice on the floor to get control of this one.

Holmes 26-12. Rice did not play much of second quarter probably due to 2 fouls. A different game when Rice is in the game. Holmes gets complacent when they get a double digit lead. Look for Coach Henley to charge up the troops at half time and to put Holy Cross away in the first 4 minutes of second half.

I would still have to favor Graves Co. until their dethroned. Their slow down style of basketball keeps them in every game they play. When the pressure is on alot of teams will fold and Hatcher finds a way to win. This is with out question the most wide open first region situation I've seen in a while. I see Tilghman, Marshall, Graves, Mayfield, Heath, Calloway and you never know what Fulton Co. team will show up (don't think they can win it but who knows who they might upset) as all possibles. It just depends on who gets the hottest in the next two weeks.

It's possible and only time will tell. I truly believe they feel they have something to prove and this is their last chance.

All I will say is for all those who said the Dawgs offense is missing, tourney time is here and their better be some teams ready to play because Holmes is about to get on a roll. If a team does not think Holmes can defend check out their rank in the state as far as point allowed. I believe you will find them in the top five state wide. Only Brossart in NKY has a better defensive average.

Holmes is in the top five in the state on the defensive side of the ball 45.5 point per game. Holy cross only scored 49 in O.T. @ Holmes earlier this year against basically their J.V. and Hill. Although Holmes only scored 44 in the loss I believe Holy Cross will find a different monster on the offensive side of the ball next Tuesday.

On the season Holmes is averaging is 56.3 points per game. Defensively they are giving up 45.5 points per game. Since the return of the suspened players and the return of DJ they are averaging 57.2 per game and defensively giving up 44.8 per game (last 7 games). On the other hand Cov. Cath for the season is giving up 50.7 per game on the defensive side of the court and averaging 60.5 per game on offense for the season. Stats show this to be a coin flip but I will favor Holmes to win the ninth. Cov. Cath might get them again in the district @ Cov. Cath. but after three possible losses to Cov. Cath., Holmes will be ready for revenge in a ninth region championship game @ Holmes. By the way Holmes has had two or three games in the last seven that have been blow outs that if Henley would have played the starters longer the average for the last seven games would larger on the offensive side.

Anyone have any predictions on the Holmes/E-Town game Friday night @ Holmes? Should be very entertaining with the talent of Holmes versus Pettigrew. Look for a lot of points to be scored.

Anyone have any details on this one? Looks like the Dawgs (with two good wins this week @ Boone Co. & NCC @ home) are on that trek for a big post season roll. As posted before Dawgs play pretty well @ home and barring a District tourney upset to Holy Cross (neutral floor) will play the Regional @ Holmes.

I, agree with you HHS dad. My point was margin of victory is not that big of a deal and to not read to much into those margins. Games play out for different reasons and margin of victory could be more or less for several reasons and not a true indicator of the talent level of the two teams. I still will predict a Holmes/CCH regional final and personally I can't wait should be a classic!

Gee, didn't Cov. Cath. play Highlands earlier only win by three? A team such as Highlands is who Holmes will stuggle with a bit beacuse they do slow down the tempo of the game an they are very physical and big. Seems as though Cov. Cath. didn't exactly blow them out either. So lets not get to excited by the margin of victories wether it be by three or fourteen points. As I've posted before in the Holmes/Newport game summary Holmes has a tendency to playdown to their opponets. They sometimes tend to coast once they get a lead and only play good enough to hang on for the win. Yes this may come back to bite them in the end, but only time will tell and I look forward to seeing this play out hopefully all the way to the ninth region championship and hope it is a Holmes/Cov. Cath. matchup. Might be the best region championship game in the state.

Yes, they have lost only once this season at home to Holy Cross during suspension period of players and without DJ. They lead them by 13 with five to go and the young dogs and Austin could not hang on. Any time you play at home it's got to be an advantage.

Let's examine Holmes eight losses. 1st loss to Simeon Kenton at their place by four in O.T. 2nd loss to Barberton, Oh at J-Town Tourney by two points. 3rd loss to GRC in Fifth/Third by two. 4th loss to Cov. Cath in Fifth /Third by one point in O.T. (this was the day after all of Holmes problems arose and their fourth game in four days, Cov. Cath's third in three days) 5th loss to St. Henry on the road the day before the suspensions were to be handed out by eleven points. 6th loss to Holy Cross at home by five points in O.T.(Holmes was up by 13 with five minutes to go in the game and this was the first game played without the six suspended players). 7th loss to Cov Cath. on the road by four during suspension period. Last but not least 8th loss to Scott on the road by eleven points last game of suspension period. They have lost three O.T. games. I personally believe that Holmes will be the top contender to win the Ninth. They will, if they beat Holy cross on a neutral floor in the district, be hosting the Regional at Holmes were they have only lost one home game all year. Barring the injury to Jefferson, Holmes could really be somewhere around 3 to four losses and ranked in the top ten in the state. I do believe they would of have beaten Cov. Cath. at least once this year if DJ wasn't hurt and they had not created all of their own problems. DJ with his talent at the point makes Holmes at least ten points better with his ballhandling & passing skills alone (somone to take care of the ball down the stretch). Holmes over confidence can come back to bite them though as evidenced in the Ryle, Newport, and Dixie Heights games they tend to play down to their opponets and only play well enough to win and not take care of business because they are definetly better than the margin of victories they had in those games. All in all I still think they will turn it up at the right time and win the 35th district and 9th region championship. They have not lost to a bad team yet and have played a pretty tough schedule and the biggest common thread that has lead to the losses by Holmes is missing their true point guard and senior leader DJ. P.S. - remember inside of a minute to go of the Cov. Cath. game Austin Hill had the ball stolen in the backcourt with a chance to tie the game or go ahead with a three. He was having to try and do everything without the suspended players & DJ. This is where DJ steps up and makes this team better because he is a much better ballhandler than Hiil and Henderson and this gives them the chance to have four bonafide scoring threats on a last second play (DJ, Hill, Henderson & Rice) because DJ's much tougher to guard on the dribble in the backcourt and can't be trapped as easily. Question? who takes the last second shot for Holmes if I'm a coach who do I defend? Or possibly try and double team. This is why I believe Holmes will Be going to Rupp.

Not a whole lot of talent at the j.v. level? I thought all the talk was that during the suspension games of Holmes players, they were represented by Austin Hill and a group of j.v. players. They seemed to hold their own against two of the ninths top teams and actually won a couple of games. I know they had Austin, but I would assume that the other teams would have been trying to really shut down Austin? It seems the younger Bulldogs stepped up and played really well during that stretch. As for Coach Sullivan I'm sure he is doing a great job I know Coach Henley would not have an assistant that he felt could not get the job done with these young men.

I believe that any team that faces Holmes from here out will be concerned and they better be. If I'm Cov. Cath. I've got to wonder "we played them the night after all their troubles started and their fourth game in four days, then we played them on our home court and were took to the brink, without four of their top players (six total) plus DJ and we'll most likely have to beat them on their home court to go to Rupp. Ya think they might have a little extra motovation to beat us?" I believe Holmes has something to prove to Cov. Cath. and the rest of the ninth reigion nay sayers.

The top bracket is loaded! With the likes of E-Town, Simon Kenton, Scott Co., South Laurel, Holmes or Cov. Cath., Louisville Schools (Doss, Fairdale, PRP). Every one in the lower bracket should be giddy. Plus who ever comes out of the ninth better get ready if Graves Co. wins the first because Hatcher will slowwww! the ball down. Game will probably end up in the upper thirty point to lower forty point range.
