  1. There is another way to look at it. Using the term 360-degree turn to mean that some has completely turned themselves around. Since 360 is a complete turn around. Now if one has an issue with that phrase also then well it goes back to the original statement. Some may not
  2. Did any of the events happen in wv? I remember in college here in ky that one could not give consent if legally intoxcitated is what we were told by the campus program. I'm sure it's not that cut and dry. I also can't believe the coaches. The whole thing is sick
  3. Hashmarks are different too. I am not sure about at WKU but I know a number of college stadiums have both the HS and college hashes marked in some way. To answer the question with the longer court I would expect a faster and up tempo team to gain an advantage
  4. Where did you go to college at? Nappy Roots as a group was from WKU. They were all going to school there while I was there. I know a number of times I would be in kinkos working on a project and a few of them would be in there cutting stuff to put together their CDs.
  5. Part of the reason people like Gates end up in the NFL instead of NBA has to do with height. They are the guys that are considered a couple of inches too short for the position they would play. I also think people are a little off about how athletic OL/DL are on the NFL level. You would be very surprised by how athletic those guys truly are. Peppers focus was football so that is where he spent his time. Basketball was a side project so he wasn't putting in the time. As far as a kid being able to just pick up football or start later I think there is some misconceptions there. There is a MASSIVE difference from playing football with friends and as a sport. There is of course a difference between park basketball and basketball as a sport but that gap is much smaller. Kids that start football late have a number of things to over come. The biggest is they have no clue just how violent the game truly is. It takes kids a good 2 years or so to get going. I think it would help if people stated also which sports they have played. Also soccer players are extremely good athletes. If you think hand eye cordination is tough try it with feet.
  6. http://my.llfiles.com/00091450/2012rules.pdf Those are the rules for the FTJFL. According to the rules they are suppose to run a version of the HHS offense and defense. How strictly that is enforced or what exactly that means I have no idea but its at least in the rules. Lexington Catholic I believe attempts to run close to what the HS runs. I believe the team that feeds John Harden does run the same stuff. Bowling Green's middle school runs the same stuff as their HS. I know a number of smaller schools do as well
  7. Lots of different factors to look at. Football is a much more specialized sport. A QB requires a different skill set then and DB. What the different positions are asked to do mentally and physically are very different. Football requires a wider range of athletes. Contact in football is very different then the type of contact you have in basketball. The amount of information and how fast you must process it is very different then in basketball. As far as "weeding out" goes well when you can only play 5 and you only keep 12 or so on a team of course you will weed out kids. You also see guys on basketball teams that are there just because they were blessed with height. Basketball players have much longer careers. We all know skills and athletic ability decrease as one ages. In most cases with football you do not pick when to leave the game. Game tells you when to leave because your body can no longer produce at the level required.
  8. That is pretty common tactic. Most DB coaches say go ahead and take the DPI before a TD. What people are worried about is a team taking a DPI on 3rd/4th and 20+ instead of giving up the first down. The real interesting question is will the "additional 15 yds for intentional DPI/OPI" be called now.
  9. I have never witnessed it myself but it is in the books. I believe that in the OH playoffs this year it was called. I am sure most coaches don't even know the rule is in the book. The only reason I heard of it is because a crazy coach on another site that qoutes the rulebook all the time
  10. Found what I was looking for. An offical can take on an additional 15 yd if the PI was done on purpose PENALTY: Illegal forward pass (Arts. 2a,b,c) – (S35); intentional grounding (Arts. 2d,e) –(S36) – 5 yards plus loss of down – (S9). Pass interference (Art. 10) – (S33) – 15 yards and automatic first down if by B, 15 yards plus loss of down if by A – (S9). If the pass interference by either player is intentional, his team shall be penalized an additional 15 yards (S27). Ineligible downfield (Art. 12) – (S37) – 5 yards. Illegal touching (Art. 13) – (S16) – 5 yards plus loss of down.
  11. You never see it called but the offical can call another penalty like unsportsmanlike for an intintional dpi. I'll double check on that. It is a version of the rule you don't see enforced.
  12. Most db coaches tell their kids already if you get beat take the dpi or holding penalty. Takes most of the downside of it. I don't think it will be as big of a deal as some are thinking
  13. There are a number of reasons like that have already been stated. Sometimes there are rule changes that require the change. Sometimes the jersey's don't fit like the team thought they would. Its no tlike the team gets to try on all the different sizes. Some years you might order more of a size of pants then you need just by roster size.
  14. "It started one time, they got ready to introduce the defense, and they were going to introduce us together," Lewis, who is retiring after this season, said during the post-game press conference. "This guy in my hometown, Kirby Lee, would always do this dance, and the dance was called the 'squirrel', and I told him I was gonna do that dance one day, and he was like, 'You're not gonna do it,' and I was like, 'I'm gonna do it.
  15. Complete side note but I thought the dance came from a homeless guy or something from Lewis's hometown. I thought I heard him say that at some point. I also thought the guy was on drugs or something.
  16. The guy he hired for the DL will not be coaching the whole DL but just the DTs I think. I think the DC will be coaching the LBs. Most of the guys on offense are Franklin/System guys or have worked in that area so that is one thing. Just because he had not coached maybe with some of the guys does not equal to not knowing them. He more than likely knew them all in some form before.
  17. Because if I am a HC with my background as a DC and I am coming into a struggling I don't want to have to coach my coaches. I want to bring in guys that I have worked with and know. I want guys that know my scheme and how to teach it.
  18. I don't see how that is a fair comment at all. I don't know the man but he was a position coach. The LBs did well while he was there. Him no longer being employeed has nothing to do with no being able to cut it but a new staff coming in with their coaches. Very Very few times are people held over from the coaching staff before.
  19. This should be interesting. I know Coach Rains has in the past been very clear about what he needs to win at a school. Considering all the stories I have heard about Dunbar and Lexington schools I would think it would be tough. Now if he does get everything in place this could become very interesting with the size of the school, talent, and a number of other factors. I hope it works because I think it woul dbe great for HS football in the state.
  20. Really? He is making enough off of Zija to stop working and its worth it to give up coaching?
  21. Leach tracks touches. He wants the ball spread around. He does run the ball and produces 1000 yd rushers. He even talks about the rb being his best player in many ways. That's what I refered to the misconception of balance. Over the years look at Trinity's passing and rushing numbers. They have fairly equal numbers but if you break it down by quarter and game you see they tend to throw early and run late. Boone has talent. With a coach with a system and plan they can be a strong program ( I'm not knocking the former staff). It will be interesting to see who the next coach will be. I do have to say all the talk about the youth coach makes me want to 1) see film and 2) meet the guy. He sounds like he can coach and has a defined system
  22. There are ways to develope QB and the passing game even if you're not the best QB coach. Darin Slack is an amazing resource for that. It also comes down to what you ask the qb to do. Balance is either an over used or misused word in football. You can win going to the extremes but you have to have answers. A double wing team just needs the qb to understand and execute the passing game on a level to hurt a defense. That is just one example.
  23. Yes I enjoy both of those teams very much. I didn't get a chance to watch Northwestern this year. I enjoy watching well coached teams running well constructed schemes. Some of the teams I enjoy are WVU, aTm, Wisconsin, Boisie St back in the day, Clemson, AL, Georgia Tech, Army, Navy, Vandy, Malzahn coached teams, UCLA, Georgetown College, Trinity (big Coverdale fan), Rich Rod teams, Leach, Tom Osborne Nebraska, and Urban Meyer teams to name a few. I'm just as happy watching a well run double wing offense as I am a triple option, or spread if they are coached well.
  24. I agree about tbe "fashion" part of it. Honestly part of that is people wanting the local hs to look like the teams on Saturday and Sunday. There is pressure for that from clueless people. Then you have some coaches that try to be like that. Or coaches that think they can out scheme the other team. When it comes down to it you have to block and tackle better than those other guys. You have to execute your system to the highest level you can. That of course goes to not making mistakes. The game is pretty simple and there are a lot different ways to skin that cat.
  25. I guess there is always a chance he would apply. To some degree it would make sense to apply. There is no real downside to doing it. Someone mentioned Davis. I wouldn't be surprised if he applied. As far as either one of them getting the job I have no idea. It depends on what Boone is looking for
