  1. The coaches are up on the 2nd level in front of the boxes. By the looks of things the past few years that is where all the coaches are at. I would prefer the 2 games a day with 1, 2, 3A games being played in the morning and the 4-6A being played at night. As far as the field goes. Everyone is playing on the same field and if a coach is that worried about hashes and goal posts then it is easy enough to practice.
  2. There are 3 types of lies. Lies, Lies and Stats. Of those stats on Trinity I would be interested to see what the first half of games stats wise looked liked. QB scrambles of course go down as rushes, as do sacks. When they get a up in a ball game then of course they run the ball more to run out the clock and to keep the score down to a degree. It would be interesting to see the first half stats of the 4A game. I would say that numbers wise, they would be close; but there were 2 huge scrambles in there. A team can be proficient in both areas and still be a run or pass dominate team. There was a few things Ryle could have done to open up their running game without throwing the ball. There are still I am sure a number of other things these teams had in common. Like Did all three win the turnover margin? What was average field position for all three? Were they penalized less often for less yards? Average 1st down yardage gained? All those things play fairly large parts in games.
  3. I would not say De LaSalle was "so superior" then their competition. The run offense forces opponents to play assignment football which works veyr much like a passing game as far as controll. Throughout the thread there has been a good deal of reference to a "balanced" offense but no one has defined what it is. I was using the percentages to see how much passing or running a team had to do for one to consider them balanced. Since it ws being implied that the number of passing or running plays in game defines if a team is balanced or not.
  4. I guess we have to then define balance. If one believes balance is some pass to run ratio that is some where between 40/60 to 60/40 then I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree. You can look at a number of other states at their top level (what would equal our 4A) and see that teams that do not fit that ratio have and do win championships. Once again De LaSalle high school ran up a 100+ game winning streak including championships being a run dominate team. They could throw when they wanted to and they wanted to throw very little. South Lake in TX is some thing like 70/30 when it comes to the pass and they do just fine.
  5. I do not think any of those teams qualify as a spread team (in either version). Trinity has a pro style attack. CCH and NCC both are I teams that often use a 2 TE looks (NCC goes unbalanced too). Last year CCH has a spread team. Mercer's coaches did not take the toss out of the game plan. At least not until half time. They ran 3 straight toss sweeps out of the bone inside the 10 before sneaking it for thier first score. Russel's problem in part was more design more than anything. Look at the pass attempts and of those how many were thrown to Clark. Clark is a great player but everyone knew were the ball was going. I would say 90% or more of Russel's passing game is play action or trick plays (counter crisscross pass). When the other team knows you have to throw PA is not worth much of anything. Russel had been able to move the ball on the ground. With 4 mins, 3 TOs, and already in your opponents side of the field there is not much reason to come out throwing on 3 straight downs. Ryle had some what of the same problem. Large majority of their passing game I am sure is PA and they dropped a great chance 1st play of the game. I have no clue at all why Ryle used a hurry up no huddle to start that game. One thing those teams have in common is they have very good kickers. They can get pts when a lot of teams can not. Auto touchbacks help negate a good deal of talent also. Another thing that those teams have in common is a more flexable design to their offense. They have a way to run the same plays out of a few dirrent formations to take advantage of the defense. Trinity was running a 44 rolled down to look like a 62. That is not hard to run against with small adjustments. There is no reason a run or pass dominate team can not when a title in any of the classes. People tend to think you have to have a run pass ratio of 40/60, 60/40, or 50/50. De LaSalle runs the oustide veer and throws maybe 1-3 times a game. Its about being able to pass when you want to and run when you want to.
  6. I want to say the formation is a little different then a Deleware Wing T. Russe's version is more of a power football version then most wing t teams. It looks like a lot more downhill blocking then what you would think. Last year Russel honestly ran about 4 plays..over and over. The ran QB trap and I think a buck play. Then would line up in Power I left and just slam the ball down OC's throat.
  7. Another team had done that to Alexander during the regular season that year. Brohm vs Bush is of course number 1. The funny thing about that game is that Trinity in a way was there own worse enemy. Trinity would score so fast with the crossing routes that there defense was on the field forever. The more you watch that game the more you see Trinity's defense losing steam. It was a heck of an ending. Most of the other ones have alreayd been brought up. While not in the championship game, something that was odd was the Male team in 93. (I am not from Male) I think during their playoff run that year that scored almost all their pts off of defense and special teams. I want to say they had 2 games where their offense did not score at all.
  8. I agree that the game will come down more to Ryle's D vs Trinity's O. Rain should not bother the Trinity O much. If the offense is like Coverdale's stuff in the past there are a lot of quick throw available to the QB. They should have a vertical game but in the past the idea has been more to get the ball out quick to the playmakers in space. Coverdale wrote the book (at least 4) on the passing game. It is as close to a pro style passing game as you will see in HS. It is a different animal then what Dixie does.
  9. In NKY they tend to show them the day after and then replay them again on Sunday. That is what they have done in the past. If you have on demand there is a chance you will be able to watch them like that also. The HS games that have been on our insight (ICN 6) are available on demand. Also if you have digital you can scroll ahead a few days and they should have them listed. On a side note: did anyone tape the Male-Trinity game? We did not get that game up here and would like to get a copy. If someone has one or can get one PM me.
  10. Coverdale is more than likely the best OC in the state. The game is worth watching just for his offense alone from my POV. I am looking forwarding to seeing Ryle's ground game again. They seem to do a very god job of finding the best matchups there which is often over looked fromt he stands.
  11. Can someone tell me when Coverdale returned to Trinity? I thought he left to coach in IN after the 2001 season and did not know he had returned.
  12. I wish I would have watched more of Ryle's games or looked at some tape. In that 5-2 scheme if they are playing zone out of it they have to drop 1 of their DE (understandbale since they play in a 2 pt stance head up to outside eye it looks). If they play zone then in most cases it is cover 2 with no way to drop and cover the middle. The scheme does seem to need 2 DE ends that can beat the snot out of the TE. I honestly have not seen too many teams run a 5-2 and with the DE looking like LBers it tends to look some what like a 3-4. I am wondering what happens when the TE is off the LOS so that DE can not just jam him up as easy. My personal view is that it is not the talen match up that is the issue as much as the scheme. Looking at Ryle's offense the match up looks better in that area I think right now and Ryle did look good on special teams.
  13. Could be wrong but they do seem to be a man scheme team. Not Male style (trail in the hip no inside release) but up close and watching inside. No bump and run either. I will say I was impressed with Ryle in many areas (size, depth, team speed, performance). I never asked the 6-8 Trinity scouts in front of me what they thought. The passing game is going to be the issue because of scheme more than talent. Ryle has the talent to defend the pass but their scheme does not seem to be built to handle the pass very well. This has more to do with formation, shifts and motions then anything else. I have not watched Trinity since Coverdale was there so I am not sure scheme wise what to expect from them.
