Anyone have the current standings/records of the Northern Kentucky Freshman teams?

My argument was against losing the offside call in favor of being able to cherry pick. I am all for a nice ball over the top so long as it is paired with a well timed run by a forward or midfielder. I agree, that is a fun part of the game to watch. That said, I still prefer watching kids with good foot skill, passing skill and teamwork, who work the ball downfield with a plan and have the skills needed to execute the plan.

Lopsided wins are no fun to watch in my opinion. So, since we are proposing wholesale rules changes, how about this; once a team is up by 3 goals or more, the next time they score, it counts for the team that is losing. In your honor, we could call it the Spreading the wealth/Redistribution rule.

Getting rid of the offside rule could be a double edged sword for many teams. By playing over the top kick ball, you would not develop soccer players, only ball kickers. As long as your team had the fastest forwards, you would likely find success in playing kick ball. But if you ran up against equally fast backs that neutralized your forwards, then had no skill in the midfield because it was never developed by practicing kickball, the ball would rarely leave your end of the field. And what happens when you play that style but lose your speedy forwards to injury or graduation? The game is fine as it is. The few times that a run is perfectly timed with a ball played through or over the top, it is a beautiful thing to see. It would be a shame to lose that just to watch a game that has double digit goals scored.

As this thread is already 6+pages, I have not scrolled all through so this may be repetitive. I was impressed by the Birds O line in pass protection against a huge Trinity D line. Bodes well for the season!

Both previous posts have truths to them. There will always be good players left off of a list like this and there will always be players from non soccer schools, who play against mostly other non soccer schools, that make the list because they score a lot of goals against easy competition. That said, a bad player would not score lots of goals even against easy competition. That said, there are a lot of top scorers each year from non soccer schools, who might not even start if they played at a school like Highlands, Cov Cath, NCC, St. Henry, NDA etc...

Pendry Park now has the worst fields in the area and no one else is even close.

So are public schools and the parents who choose to send their kids to get a private education, for whatever reason, are paying part of the freight for that too.

NDA returns the best keeper in the area, if not the entire State, along with excellent players up top, middle defender and center mid. They also have several players that saw significant varsity playing time last season at nearly every position. This group, along with a strong contingent from last years JV NKY Championship team, will make them extremely strong. St. Henry, with their returning group will be right there with them and Dixie and Brossart will both be tough to beat. Those 4 teams are the class of NKY and after that, toss names in hat and throw them into the air to pick a finishing order.

I'm not so sure HHS did not do NDA a huge favor with the slow down strategy. The big win over Ryle on Saturday may have been the result of having fresher players down the home stretch and if they are able to pull another upset this afternoon against Boone, I think a thank you card is in order!

Although I am not a fan of the stall strategy, even without action, I was riveted and could not wait to see what happened next.

I would have loved to have heard the radio broadcast of the game. The announcers had to be going crazy trying to call play by play when there was no play!

I agree that this may have been the best strategy for the HHS coaches to employ to have a chance to win the game. That said, I think it sends a poor message to the team. It is like a baseball coach telling his team that they have no chance hitting against an overpowering pitcher so just crowd the plate, leave the bat on your shoulder and hope to get drilled in the back with a fastball. The HHS players, especially the seniors, deserved a better message from their coach.

Only time will tell. I only know what I've heard from a pretty reliable source and the source said this kid is going to be very very good. Depending on how the QB situation shapes up next year (2012), the young man may have a legitimate shot to challenge for starting role as a Soph.

I hear that there is an incoming Frosh (Red devil) that will challenge for the starting varsity spot by the time he is a soph. Big strong kid who can already throw the ball 50+ yards accurately.

Highlands football is bred into Ft. Thomas kids from an early age. My son talked of nothing else from the time he was in kindergarten on because the HHS players visited his school and talked to all of the kids about their State Championships and Highlands football. He was hooked. 11 years later, he was the State Champion player that went with his teammates to see all of the elementary students to show them the trophy the team had just won. When he heard that one little boy, who happened to be in his kid sisters 2nd grade class, had been sick that day and had missed the players; he "borrowed" the State Championship trophy and took it to the little boy's house to share with him the next weekend. That little boy is in the 6th grade now. I'm betting the young man still remembers that day, and in a few short years will have his own State Championship memories to share with the next generation of Bluebirds.

The only suspense will be, does Trinity score more points and allow fewer points than Highlands does against Lexington Catholic.

Did not expect that wide a margin. The Birds played near perfect football on both sides of the ball tonight. Congrats to the Colonels on a great season!
