Quarterbacks at Highlands

Featured Replies

It may be a long time before we see another Patrick Towles type player at Highlands. It seems that moving forward it looks like we may see the Starting QB each year being a Sr. Donovan McCoy has waited patiently for his opportunity and Sophomore Drew Houliston likely will take over that spot his Sr. yr. With that said, this year's frosh QB Beau Hoge likely wont get a shot at the position until his Sr year. Can we expect a progression like this moving forward or is there potential for another QB to start their Sophomore or Junior yr.

i think this says a lot about the talent at this position and the development of these kids as they come up in the local youth football leagues.

Would it not be possible for Hoge to jump Houliston after next year? I would think so.

I think it will be difficult to project the HHS QB situation in the future. When Towles was a freshman he was not even the starting QB on the HHS freshman squad. He then went on to be a varsity starter for 2.5 years, won three state championships, won back-to-back title game MVP awards, is set to win Mr. Kentucky Football (and has already won the KY Gatorade POY Award), advanced to the final round of the national Elite 11 competition (one of only 24 QBs nationally to make it to the final round), and has earned NCAA D-I football offers. When Towles went under center for the very first time during the HHS-Cincy St. X game back in 2009, who could have predicted this??? With this in mind, who knows which player will be the starting QB for HHS in two years?

It's stories like this that make prep sports amazing!

If Wii Bardo hadn't been injured, how much playing time would PT have seen in 2009?

He could but I dont see it. Drew got some excellent reps this season as a soph and will get more next year. Hoge would-be have to grow taller and really outshine Houliston. Jmo

I bet if you listed every starting qb at highlands since 1965, most of them only got one year to

start. With the junior football league in place, there are 4 or 5 quaterbacks that are getting a chance to develop every year. I know when i came out of junior fb, I had to compete with 5 guys to play qb on the freshman team--and all of them were good. And that same example is true for every position on the field. And that is why Highlands very rarely has a "down" year.

There is an out of state transfer this year that plays QB but never got the opportunity to try out for the Freshman, top athlete, NFL pedigree, etc. Let's see what happens next year for JV.

Are you talking about Feggins?

Does that mean that he did not play freshman football or he did not get to try out for quarterback? How big is he?

Crazy things happen all the time.

Even with the great program that Highlands has, the # 3 could be the # 1 in about 2 plays.

Who's playing QB for the Houston Texans this Sunday????

TJ Yates.

Who is TJ Yates?

Rookie from North Carolina

I'm assuming its Feggins. He is a big strong kid who would probably be fun to watch at that position.

TJ Yates.
exactly my point.
