  1. Grubbs is a great young man and I'm really sorry to hear he'll be out. This is a young man who came to play the day after the football state championship. He has a tremendous personality, passion for basketball and is a beast in the post. I wish him the best at Miami!
  2. Your goal at the end of the day is to make these young men better basketball players and better gentlemen. At the 7th grade level, they tend to forget plays, make silly mistakes, goof off, etc. I think that is part of the fun of it. Trying to accomplish things that people didn't think possible. Keep your head up, keep your energy level up and positive, because they feed off of that more than anything. Good luck the rest of the way.
  3. The paper said that Newport hadn't won in the nine years that Russell has been the coach. Wow. I'm shocked by the margin of victory.
  4. I thought that the Brossart coaches had a good game plan and adjusted well. Highlands should have more offensive firepower/sets, than they showed Sat. night. I realize the two missing players are the best offensive threats, but others including Watson, can contribute more if given the opportunity. At one point in the second quarter, they ran the same offensive set at least 8 times in a row without success. I hope as the season goes on they diversify the offense and get out faster with good outlet passes.
  5. I think the reference was to the 8th grade Beechwood team.
  6. Kelsey was the daughter of CCH Freshman coach Steve Sorrell and brother of last year's senior Trevor. She passed two years ago in a car accident, a year out of high school from NDA. I believe she would have been the cousin of the Sorrell at Simon. Great family and great cause!
  7. Anybody have information on the St. Henry preseason tournament? Whose entered, when does this begin?
  8. What are they looking for in terms of staff? Heard Feldman JV, Hunt Varsity Assistant, and a new teacher as the freshman coach.
  9. Scott Code is an excellent coach. His kids play hard and devote themselves to defense. Pressure to get to the regional tournament exists at all schools, however Campbell should be happy with Coach Code's system and results.
  10. Great kid and hard worker. Best of luck to Tyler.
  11. The sophomore class is pretty talented, so I would imagine that 5 or 6 including Down's and McQueary's sons. Back to the original post: Varsity: Faust Hicks They seem to get the most out of their kids. Listerman Henley Have had great success Flynn Expect him to be successful with this senior class. The two up-and-comers: Grant Brannen and Tim Sullivan Freshman: Ashley at Boone has won two championships in a row. Sorrell - CCH Goetz - St. Henry Rowland - Conner
  12. Rather than the negatives, what are the positives? What kind of system did Coach Flynn run at Holmes/Ashland? What can we expect? Has any of the staff been named?
  13. I'd go with Mack, he's a XU alum, their lead assistant, and their best recruiter. I think the ties to the program and the recruits will allow him to maintain the success they've had the last decade or more. The situation is similar to Brad Stevens being hired at Butler or Pastner at Memphis. Being a great recruiter and an insider should allow for an easy transistion and allows XU to remain on top of the A-10.
  14. I would think that Coach Feldmann would deserve an interview. He has been a part of the program for a number of years and coached with/under Coach Schlarman and both of the Code brothers. I think Carr and Shumate would be good hires if they're looking for local coaches with head coaching experience.
  15. You're missing Zach Lother from Highlands and Conor Maschinot from Cov Cath. Both should be among the contenders for the lead.
  16. Holmes brings the title back to NKY for 1st time since 1981. Holmes by 14. Will this game be shown on ICN 6?
  17. I thought that BOK put on a nice tournament. I sure that even the teams/players in the first round game had a great experience in a college arena. The mini sweet sixteen comment is right on. It's nice that we have a great facility in the area and it's nice to use it for such a big event in a high school basketball player's career. The only change I would make is to make the quarters and semis general admission seating and the finals assigned seating. I think this would allow for larger isolated cheering sections for each team involved and increase the atmosphere even when the arena has a few thousand people in it.
  18. 9th looks like: Conner vs. SK Scott vs. Boone Dixie vs. Holmes Cov Cath vs. NCC All pretty close games. Dixie by 12 over Beechwood. CovCath by 9 over Highlands. Conner, NCC, Scott close games. Great 2nd round games coming on Sat.
  19. 1st Round: Lincoln Co Scott Co South Laurel Holmes Ballard GRC Shelby Valley Warren Central 2nd Round: Scott Co Holmes Ballard Warren Central Semi: Holmes Ballard Final: Ballard TP: 132
  20. Here was my post: I should have 11 pts, I believe. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Holmes St. Henry Cov Cath Highlands Holmes CovCath Holmes Henderson
  21. Holmes St. Henry Cov Cath Highlands Holmes CovCath Holmes Henderson
  22. This is a little off base: First, many of the star athletes at Highlands play football (i.e. Smith, Lorenzen, Gino, Ben.......) For the basketball program not to rely on them would be a mistake. Second, the development of Nic Simpson, Greg McGraw and many of the sophs and freshman can be attributed to the knowledge and hard work of Coach Schlarman and his assistants. Third, the games that matter are much later in the season. With many football players in the system, December is a month to establish roles and rotations. Let's judge them in February. They are the reigning district champs and drew CovCath, the eventual state region representitives last year.
