  1. what about mound care? Do you use clay bricks? How about the batters box.
  2. Is this for the infield or outfield grass or both? What type of grass do you currently have in your outfield. We need to replant and I am considering rye, bermuda, and fescue.
  3. Injuries will play a big role for Bethlehem. They need Luke Wimpsett, Cam Wilson, and Caleb Watts in the line-up. Their replacements last week played well but this certainly hurts their depth. Bethlehem will also benifit from the later start and cooler temps. Their gametime last week was 6:30 and the heat was brutal. This week should be an excellent game.
  4. I feel safe in saying that over 375 of those yards were in the second half. Numbers and heat took a big toll on Bethlehem.
  5. Central Hardin had too many numbers for Bethlehem to maintain a 14-10 halftime lead. Bethlehem played very well matching the 6A school hit for hit through the first half. By my count Bethlehem had 9 players that wer going both ways. That combined with a 6:30 gametime (gametime Heat index of 102) lead to Bethlehem being completely exhausted in the second half. Central dominated the third quarter but some gritty freshman who replaced the varsity heald Central scoreless in the 4th. Props to Micheal Kidwell, Casey Robinson, Jacob Whitner, and Taylor Ballard for enduring the entire game.
  6. Too early in the season for me to make a call. Does anyone know the story as to why Keaton Hall quit. I heard he is not with the team and that they have lost some others ???????
  7. Better than expected. Played Eminence and controlled the scrimmage. Actually looked better than I remembered them looking against Eminence in the preseason last year. Stanley looked very good running the ball, Greenwell passed well. The offense will be much more balanced and have more depth. The biggest issue will be the tough schedule ahead. It will make it tough for some of the younger guys to step up.
  8. Bats win tourney in Murray and finish season 23-1. Kurt Mason and David Downs did an excellent job with a fine group of boys. If they stay together and improve as they age they will be a force.
  9. Bethlehem has looked good in practice. Wimpsett and Stanly are ready now. If they can get the play out of Greenwell, Robinson, Wimpsett, Downs, and Wilson that they are capable of then they could be a formidable opponent down the road. Bethlehem will be playing a full Freshman and Jv schedule this year and their future looks very good.
  10. Bethlehem is going to be better than expected but is playing a very tough schedule for a team with 270 students and only returning 4 or 5 starters. Here is my take. Central Hardin L Garrad County L Corbin L KCD W Caverna W Holy Cross L Washington Co W Beth Haven W Bardstown L Fort Knox W If Coach Torzenski pulls this off he is a genius. Look for Bethlehem to be strong the following two years.
  11. How many truckloads would you suggest. I have been told one truck load will rais the infiield about 1/2 and inch.
  12. We are going to re-do the skinned portion of our infield. Any suggestions on what to use. We are looking at mar mix and I am curious if most are pleased with it and how they applied. i.e. did they mix with any soil conditioner.
  13. Nelson County went at 5:30 a.m. Now that is hardcore.
  14. Update. Bats are now 19-0 and have won all four tourneys they have participated in this year. This weekend they will be in Murray Ky. and step up and age group to play some 16 yo teams. We will see how that goes.
  15. I would concur. Bethlehem is a year or two away, but will be awfully tough to handle when they have Casey Robinson, Luke Wimpsett, and Austin Downs in the backfield together. Luke and Casey will get the ball quite a bit this year but are still one year off from being the factor they can be.
  16. Personally I am becoming a bigger advocate of banning metal bats everyday.
  17. What is the age group for the junior team?
  18. Bethlehem has 42 players out this season (a lot by their standards) but very few returning starters. They will have some young studs but play a killer schedule early in the year. Expect alot of bumps and bruises but expect them to be good at seaons end.
  19. I coached a select travel baseball team for 5 years. We were sactioned as a AAA Division Team by USSSA and have played in their World Series and also played in the AAU world series. AAU has a different way of dividing their top and next level teams and we did play in the top level. The AAU would series was in Orlando Florida and the USSSA was in Gulfport Mississipi. Out of 50 teams we struggle to finish in the top half but had previously been quite successful in the Ky, Ohio, Tenn areas. Typically winning about 85% of our games. We played all types of teams Cal Ripken All Star Teams, AAU Teams, USSSA Teams, USTOC teams and many others. Yes, we definitely played some good very good Cal Ripken teams; in fact some that would be considered very good AA USSSA team and maybe even better than some AAA USSSA teams but his was not the norm. The facts are that Cal Ripken, Little League, and AA USSSA teams all have geographical boundaries. (A rule not always followed). AAA USSSA teams, Major USSSA teams, and AAU have no such boundaries. Typically these teams are stronger and play in more competitive events. This is certainly not to downgrade anyone's team as I have seen several Little League All Star team, Cal Ripkin All Star Teams, and AA USSSA teams that would be very competitive on a AAA level. However these teams do not have the resourses, talent pool, or coaching, to compete with a team sanctioned in the Major Division.
  20. Metro Louisville Bats. They are coached by Kurt Mason and David Downs
  21. No argument. Alvey probably does not through as hard now as he did when he was 12yo, but I have used a Jugs gun on more than 500 12 y/o all over the country and have never seen a 12 y/o throwing harder than he was during their World Series run. He was consistently at 78 mph and untouchable.
  22. Sounds like the Lexington team was very good all around, but Aaron Alvey was unhitable as a 12 yo. No way no how would anyone have run ruled that team. Lexington may have one a 2 out of 3 series but Alvey would have been way too overwhelming at 12 yo and would have probably shut them out as he did everyone else.
  23. Nice 15 year old team out of Louisville has won both tournaments it participated in during the dead period. Won at Nicholasville with marginal competition but one a big one in Cinci this weekend with some pretty good competition. This weekend will tell the story as they travel to Indianapolis. Roster includes: Cameron Mason (Male HS) Casey Robinson (Bethlehem HS) Jeff Gardner (Whitfield Academy) Jeremy Bale (Butler HS) Willy Kinney (St. X) Caleb Vogelsang (Butler HS) Blake Ryan (Manual HS) T.J. Simmons (Breckinridge Co) Brandon Alphin (Bullitt East) Jason Smith (Whitfield Academy) and a boy from Shelby Co. and one more from Male. Nice team and I would expect alot from them over the next 3 years.
  24. Obviously a joke. If there are 10 players in the state better than Nelson County's Kristen Zutterman I would be very surprised.
  25. You misread. He pitched the first night of district play. Therefore he has had a full 5 day rest. You bring up some validity about the growth plate but it is not typically and issue. If you see the growth plate being involved it is typically in the elbow and the injury is more related to poor mechanics or a higher proportion of breaking pitches.
