Ryle player injured in Florida Tourney

Featured Replies

Robert Layne, P / OF for the 07 Ryle Raiders was struck by a line drive in the eye sockett while pitching in a tourney in Florida for the Bluegrass Chiefs. Don't have any details but I understand surgrey is scheduled to rebuild the damaged area. Please keep Robert in your prayers and thoughts.

Best of luck to this young man on a speedy recovery .Thoughts and Prayers .

Prayers go out that everything will be OK. He is a good ball player and has a bright future ahead of him.

Hope he recovers and no permanent damage.

Good news, I got Coach Layne on the phone, they are still in Florida but Robert is not going to need the surgery after all. There are 3 fractures under the eye but the doctors seem to think since there is no muscel damage or impaired vision the fractures will heal without surgery. The best news is this will not affect Robert's opportunities at Mt. Saint Joe's this fall.

That is great news that surgury is not needed... thanks for the update.

I've seen a lot of vicious injuries like this, from a direct hit to a pitcher. Bless this young man.

Prayers go out for a complete recovery

Gald to hear that Robert will be ok.

Agree wholeheartedly...but it won't happen.

I'm assuming you and others think it will not happen due to costs of buying wood bats as they break.

How much does a good high school wood bat cost?

How much do teams spend on the new aluminum bats? Or do players buy their own?
