East had decent years when miller was there. 4 straight playoff years and maybe 2 victories in the playoffs. I think what he is talking about is Millers talent with nothing to show for it as in college degree and nfl money...both of which he was and still is very capable of. You would be hard pressed to find any athlete in this area with a more disappointing story. (for fans that is...he may be the happiest person in the world now--more power to him) D-1 football may not be for everyone.

Traditionally East has pretty good skills but lines are big and slow .... Are you sure that you are not talking about West Carter with the big and slow lines? East Carter for the last several years has run a version of the wing-t that has even more activity for the guards than Russell version...their guards were usually smaller than Russells. EC lineman usually move well but not the strongest horses in the stall. (Aaron Miller was a big lineman for east but he was anything but slow...he possessed NFL skills according to the UK staff.) As for prediction of this contest...how would anyone using their head think anything but Russell. Only with the heart could someone pick East. if East turns it over 7 or 8 times verses Russell like they did verses Mason, it will be ugly once again. If east hangs on to the ball the russell regulars will still be in the game in the 4th quarter. My prediction...East will play hard. Good luck to both teams.

Carroll played very little for East. I noticed that he played about half of the first half and then a couple of plays to start the second half and then I don't remember him playing again. Any news on an injury?

Final 40-0 Mason East Carter turned the ball over multiple times...guessing 7 or more turnovers? Mason was the better team regardless. Mason/Russell will be a nice one!

Not surprised considering your picture and your stated location on the baseball field. I am not saying a bad word about anyone...just bringing up the fact that if you told the football folks at Boyd County who the new Football coach at West Jessamine is reported to be, well, shall we say that they would be very surprised. Don't believe me? Try this...post a new thread title "Ex-Boyd County Baseball coach now coaching football" and see the response. I could be wrong and probably am but I know the tension was pretty strong between the sports programs at BCHS during his tenure. With that said, if he has any football knowledge and puts the same amount of effort into football then he will do great. He is a gifted baseball coach as I understand.

A casual glance at a 42-20 score usually makes you think of those game where it was 42-7, the dogs were called off, and then the score became a bit more respectable. Obviously not the case here. How did Boone overcome the halftime deficit?

wow! I have never heard anyone boldly predict the remainder of a schedule based upon a lopsided loss! Isn't Russell on the Mason County schedule? I don't get it..."hey, Boone County killed us...so I just know that we will run the table and beat Russell!" Seriously, was the score of the Boone County bashing not a true representation of the closeness of the game or is your opinion of Boone County so great that you feel a 22 point loss to them is enough of a statement to back up the predicition?

Of course, Breathitt. I am still not even sure who is where in this new alignment. I do know that Fleming looked to get in this district looking for an easier home playoff game by avoiding Russell and Mason. It looks to have backfired this year. I don't see them beating Breathitt. In the long run, it may be a good move for the panthers.

31 for 151 is what the paper had I do believe. As for being more suited for QB or RB, Carroll is suited to have the ball in his hands with the play designed for him to go forward. When he does that, whether at RB or QB he is a darn good player.

It amazes me that so many of the fine folks from Russell seem discouraged by the annual '"whole-bunch-of-points to not-many-point" drubbings that the Devils continually paste upon the district underlings--especially when you look at the box score and see that 12-15 players for russell usually get to carry the ball in these varsity games. Do these folks realize that often you have a group of running backs getting varsity carries that often equal a representative portion of nearly half of the opponents roster? Careful now, if the grumbling continues you may choke on that silver spoon in your mouth.

This score will surprise lots of folks including east carter fans. East has talent and they are physical! but Kudos have to go out to what has to be one of the more promising young head coaches in the state in Aaron Baldwin (and his staff). He took one week and changed things completely offensively and it paid off big time. The Raiders just took the Rams out behind the woodshed even with all the penalties and the early deficit due to special teams. Raceland looked to be missing their two best linebackers for most of the game...any word on those two young men #20 and #35. Congrats to Baldwins Boys and good luck to the Rams

Things like this can be spun anyway a particular group likes and a great season like the '06 Raceland campaign can certainly turn up the orange hue that people view the world; however, the reality of the situation is that following the 03 and 04 seasons things were not so rosey in Ram land as many would want you to believe. In addition to back to back losses to East Carter, a usual whipping boy on the Rams schedule...the Rams lost back to back to Greenup. Lost to Paintsville, were scored on at will by Lexington Christian (100+ I believe), had 51 and 58 hung on them in back to back season by arch-rival District Champion Fairview (that alone was unforgivable in RamLand! Remember the coaches quotes in the paper about how Fairview has outhustled, outplayed and yes "outrecruited") and then took their normal playoff poundings in Northern KY. I wonder at that point if the Rams were really looking to drop East so that they could add Ironton and/or Russell? Please! Quite honestly I think the natives were restless and they needed some wins! Looking to play Russell and Ironton now...sure why not. But after the 03/04 years...I think not. But I could be wrong. Anyway, I think Raceland will win vs. East. I think that the East defense will be on the field a lot as the Raiders search for some offensive punch. Holding a team out of the end zone gets very frustrating after a while with no hope for points on the board. Coach Maynard's defense is what has made the difference in the Ram Revival and his unit will not let the boys from Carter County get untracked this week.

Scoff if you like but it is true. The folks from Grayson were just as surprised that a school that had dominated East was no longer interested in the series. If not for a certain AD that is no longer at Raceland the series would more than likely have been dropped at Raceland's request. If you think about it you will see that it made sense for Raceland. Greenup was a big gate. Ashland was a big payoff. East was an L for 3 consecutive seasons without the financial payoff. Enter improved homegrown talent, a couple of Greenup imports...namely TJ Maynard, focused in school weight program...and boom Raceland looks pretty darn good again. And the thought of not playing East Carter seems laughable. But trust this folks...it was dead true at the time.

East Carter has won 3 out of the last 4 verses Raceland. A couple of those were so convincing that Raceland started to drop this series that they have historically dominated. Now few give the Raiders a chance even though they return nearly everyone and Raceland had significant losses on both sides of the ball. What do you think is the major reason for this return of Racelands feeling of superiority in this series? My opinion...TJ Maynard.

win, lose or draw I would be surprised if East doesn't compete for the entire game.

I don't know how well East can stack up with Russell or Belfry. I do know that they had a scrappy squad last season and returned 9 starters on both sides of the ball. I don't know why they would have scheduled Belfry unless somebody thought they could compete. So I am guessing the Raiders think that they can play with anybody on the schedule and based on their schedule that would mean that they think they will be competitive against anyone in the 3A. I think that Mason, Russell and Belfry are all in the top 5 and all on the East Carter schedule.

No doubt Russell is Russell, but Boyd County is Boyd County, Ironton is Ironton, West Carter is West Carter, etc. etc. That is straight from the department of redundancy department! The thing I was trying to say is that if area teams just settle for the idea that Russell is Russell and that their own team is still just their own team then how is anyone going to ever elevate themselves to beat those teams that are always on the pedastal. Yes Russell is still Russell, ie well coached, hard nosed kids, lots of numbers, but I don't know if they are the same Russell that most of the area teams have been trucked by the last two years, they may be but maybe not. Maybe there is a team on their schedule that will look not at the jersey and say Russell is Russell but look at the team and think this is the year we beat these guys. Boyd County did just that a couple of years ago...doing it again is not out of the question. Now that all of my philosophizing is over I say Russell by 18. (maybe we will find out that Russell is indeed still Russell.)

What are the chances that Ashland and Ironton will play this season...with both teams looking for their 1st victory? Has that ever happened in that storied rivalry?

Did anyone see Bubby Lewis for Fleming Co. before he blew out his knee in a scrimmage his senior year. Truly a special back. Had he played in a more media friendly part of the state you folks may be talking about him. Can I get an Amen! from someone in the Flemingsburg area. I have a feeling most in the state don't even know about him. Look at the record books at what he did during his soph. and junior seasons.

Mason really stepping it up here to take on the Boone Co. boys. Many teams won't take on such a toughie. Coach B at Mason likes to test his team early evidently. Boone will win. But hats off to the Royals...should pay off come district time. Russell won't seem as formidable after facing the Rebels.
