You are correct. I can't remember the kids name but heas from Creighton and he was drafted by the Yankees a few years back in the draft. He could throw right handed in the upper 80s and top out at 90 while throwing sidearm when pitching Lefthanded and he as throwing around 80 or so there.

Fair enough there, they might not know that rule or at least aren't completely familiar with it. I know I had learned it by the end of my middle school years but at the beginning I may or may not have (can't remember, too old now haha). Yeah, the umpire should have tried to make the clarification but it is what it is at that point.

Maybe he should have stated that the batter was out but how old are the kids in the knothole game? I'd feel like most players by a certain age should know that the batter is out at home regardless on a drop third strike when 1st base is occupied (except if there are 2 outs) and should know better. At least thats IMO.

I'd figure it would be easier to just get a standard crew from another region that has no affiliations with the teams playing. Would make the most sense to me but then again I have no idea how the KHSAA operates these types of events.

I was there yesterday for the game and I also remember that play. I'm with you on that as we had a similar incident recently in the MLB where the batter thought it was ball 4 (it wasn't) and the guy advancing to 2nd base was tagged out as a result because the defense knew it was only 3 balls. As far as I'm concerned, they deserve 2nd base in that incident. Only reason I didn't bring it up was because of the eventual walk which more or less made it null and void. However you did bring up a very good point.

Difference in this ball game was South Laurel was able to string hits and walks together in the 3rd while Scott's hits were spread out. Also credit to South Laurel's middle infield as they turned two very good double plays today that also helped limit the damage from Scott's bats.
