Difference in this ball game was South Laurel was able to string hits and walks together in the 3rd while Scott's hits were spread out. Also credit to South Laurel's middle infield as they turned two very good double plays today that also helped limit the damage from Scott's bats.

Scott had some opportunities, and South Laurel did a lot of damage with two outs. SL is a solid team offensively and defensively.

Congrats to Scott on their season and good luck to South Laurel as they advance.

Congrats to Coach Trame and team on a great season. Good luck to the seniors !!!

South Laurel and Scott both have very nice teams. South Laurel has been to Lexington a few times over the last several years but had never won a game. Nice to see them pick up a victory.

Who pitched for Scott?

Sr Nick Brinkman started and pitched 3 or 4 innings, and Soph Andrew Trame pitched the last 2 or 3 innings.

First, congrats to South Laurel on the victory.

Second, congratulations to the Scott Eagles on a great season and a tremendous run. Great job!

I do want to bring up one play/call in the game that took place during the game (disclaimer: it had zero effect on the outcome). Scott had a runner on 1st. The batter takes a ball and believes it is ball 4 so he trots toward first. In turn the runner that was on 1st heads to second. After the players both reach their respective bases, the South Laurel coach argues it was only ball 3. The plate umpire and first base umpire get together and determine that he is right and that it was indeed only ball 3.

So they bring the batter back to the box like they should. What confuses me though is they made the runner go back to first. My thought (and that of everyone around me) is that it was a live ball and the runner essentially stole second base. Is that not correct?

P.S. the batter ended up walking two pitches later so it didn't change the outcome but I think the umpires made an error on the call. Thoughts?

I was there yesterday for the game and I also remember that play. I'm with you on that as we had a similar incident recently in the MLB where the batter thought it was ball 4 (it wasn't) and the guy advancing to 2nd base was tagged out as a result because the defense knew it was only 3 balls. As far as I'm concerned, they deserve 2nd base in that incident.

Only reason I didn't bring it up was because of the eventual walk which more or less made it null and void. However you did bring up a very good point.

First, congrats to South Laurel on the victory.

Yep, I'm almost positive the runner should have been allows to stay on second. I, too, have seen runners tagged out in this situation. Time wasn't called until after the runner had already reached second.
