Actually 58-0. For some reason only an extra point was counted on the first score of the second half. Scott started really slow, and it was 0-0 at the end of the first. They then scored 37 in the second. They are going to have to play better next week against Newport.

Heard from a buddy who went to the game that Scott didn't look impressive at all. Tough to say that about a 58-0 win. Anyone else at the game? Congrats to them on the win.

Scott's football program has very quickly outgrown this game. Good for them.

I agree.

Aiken had barely 20 players at the start of the game. The game stopped several times due to injuries. One of Aiken players was ejected late in the game for some type of behavior issue. Aiken played fairly solid the first quarter. A couple of dropped passes in the first half could have easily have been touchdowns. Fatigue due from playing both ways and the injuries took their toll on Aiken.

 

For anybody who hasn't been, Stagill stadium at Taft High School is a top notch facility.

The schedule for the 2015 & 2016 will be very competitive for the Eagles. The level of competition will increase greatly.

Scott is loaded with size and athletic kids they will be a good team also every year.

The first quarter was not pretty. Scott was not sharp, and Aiken was bringing a lot of pressure in the box, sending 8 guys sometimes. Aiken was pretty undisciplined and caused some problems. They did a lot of guessing, and guessed correct much of the first quarter. Scott also took a few bad penalties. The 2nd quarter was completely different, as they put 37 points on the board. A 90 yard TD by Pleasant got the ball rolling. They followed with a safety, and a big return on the free kick and it was all downhill from there. The defense caused a few turnovers, and a big 60 yard pass play to the tight end, set up a final score in the first half. The kept it rolling int he 3rd before putting in the JV in the 4th quarter.

 

Once they got it together they played well. But a good team would have put them in a big hole in the first quarter. They are still struggling a bit on defense, especially on 3rd and long. They can be explosive and break big runs anytime....they have 3 very good backs in London, Pleasant, and Sowder. They'll have to throw the ball better. There was a couple of drops and the TE was open downfield a lot, but Fitzgerald didn't have a lot of time to throw with the blitzes that were coming.

 

Not ready to anoint them a top 10 team. They'll need to win convincingly next week against what looks like a tough Newport team, and handle Holy Cross before the big meeting with Cooper. The thing to remember is these guys are young. There's only about 10 seniors, only a handful of which are big contributors. They are really a year from being able to do a lot of damage, especially with the move to 4a next year.

Congrats to the Scott football program for winning Varsity vs Holmes, JV vs Holmes, freshman vs New Cath, and Varsity over Aiken in a 6 day period.

Thanks for the details. I was trying to ask without sounding like a total jerk and when you say a team doesn't look good when they put up 58.. it's hard to not sound like that.

Yes and no. They do need to improve, but I wouldn't call them bad. Aiken was running a very undisciplined "scheme", sometimes sending multiple guys in one gap. I hesitate to even call it a scheme, as it looked like the players were doing there own thing, and a lot of guessing. That led to them simply outnumbering Scott several times at the point of attack. Their luck eventually ran out and Scott hit a few big plays and it the rout was on. The line looked a lot better in the Holmes game, though. It is a young group, an hopefully they learned something last night.

 

My biggest concern is still the defense and their occasional inability to get off the field, and more specifically pass defense.

 

And yes, next week's game against Newport is a scary one. They will score points. The question is will they be able to stop Newport.
