Yes and no. They do need to improve, but I wouldn't call them bad. Aiken was running a very undisciplined "scheme", sometimes sending multiple guys in one gap. I hesitate to even call it a scheme, as it looked like the players were doing there own thing, and a lot of guessing. That led to them simply outnumbering Scott several times at the point of attack. Their luck eventually ran out and Scott hit a few big plays and it the rout was on. The line looked a lot better in the Holmes game, though. It is a young group, an hopefully they learned something last night.

 

My biggest concern is still the defense and their occasional inability to get off the field, and more specifically pass defense.

 

And yes, next week's game against Newport is a scary one. They will score points. The question is will they be able to stop Newport.

 

I know the O-line is young and I know they have a very high ceiling but they are making a lot of mistakes right now and they are about to face the best defensive linemen (Johnson) they will face all year next week. I think its a recipe for disaster.

 

I think its going to be around a .500 year for Scott but I'm with you, Scott is a year away from being really really good.
