  1. Nothing is wrong with this thread. I can state an opinion. BUT Facts are Mercer has two of the top five fastest kids in the state and one not far from the two. It's hard to defend that, especially when the Red Devils run a 52 and their Ends (which are contain) are on the LOS. There is NO WAY they can contain that kind of speed. Sorry, sticking to my story.
  2. I know it's a little early for this talk, but I got the chance to see both Russell and Mercer Co. play this year. From what I can tell Mercer WILL dominate Russell high school if they meet up in the playoffs. Mercer has too much speed for the Red Devils. Coach Jaggars won't look back when he scores 30 + the night they play. Also from what I hear about their D is that anyone that runs the wing-t won't get as much as 100 yards total offense. Don't get mad Red Devils, Just calling it as I see it. :fire:
  3. Get real! I saw Ballard early, and they could barely get in a formation. Ballard just didn't look like Ballard.
  4. Doesn't Brown always call it conservative? Nelson maybe too physical for them! JH is very soft this year.
  5. They could win some games:D ! There are teams with higher enrollment than the afore mentioned teams and mercer, that would not. What is your point? It's not the enrollment that counts, it's the Jimmy's and Joe's that have the game in the heart and soul. There are a lot of 4-A schools (roughly 1200 kids+) that would kill for the numbers the previously mentioned teams have.
  6. Joedirt, You may be right, but the constant criticism of Mercer has gotten out of control. They are playing the hand they were dealt it isn't anyones fault, but for people to constantly disrespect their accomplishments and say it is only because of consolidation is unfair to those kids and the coaching staff.
  7. You are right it always comes to consolidation. Everything Mercer does is because of the consolidation. No credit given to the players or the coaching staff. People never take it into cosideration that there are teams that are playing out of there classification at every level, maybe not through consolidation but through just natural enrollment increases. But everyone is quick to call out Mercer.
  8. Question for all the Mercer haters. Should we go through all the classifications and any school that is say at the top of a particular class make them play up? Or if a class drops enrollment which allows it to drop down a class do you allow that? If so what is the level that you make the cut off? If someone goes has a 2% increase in enrollment do we make them play up? What about a 6% increase? How about a team loses 10% enrollment do we let them drop down? Come on guys get real. This crap is just sour grapes.
  9.           When St. X or Trinity beat a fellow 4-A school that has around 1/3 the male enrollment...they do not cry this much. I didn't see the gloating or read the gloating. I didn't notice you post anything about Male's 80-0 win over IHS. Was it gloating when that game was detailed? Follow your precious northern ky ball and stay away from South-Central!:thumb:
  10. So does Newport still want another shot at Mercer? There was a lot of noise on here last week about how they could hang with Mercer, I guess we can throw that out with the garbage. Congrats to the Bears, very nice win!
  11. No, it is not legal for the DE/OLB to cut the lead blocker (FB or pulling OL).
  12. You should consider calling games. What about cutting while in shot gun? Also, Bolye Co. performs the chop-block quite regularly. Not sure it is taught, but they do it.:fight:
  13. WOW! That kind of sums it up. Just maybe there are some things going on in the program that some of the folks that are supposedly close to the program failed to share with us. Players missing practice? Not playing or practicing hard? Does being a senior and failing to attend practice or not practice to your level still assure you a starting spot? Very Interesting. I do know that Senior leadership is a must, and without it there is at times very little a coaching staff can do.
  14. I wasn't trying to disprespect anyone, my point being that everyone talks about Mercers offense, and you see very few posts concerning their defense. Teams struggle to score vs. Mercer and if anyone thinks Newport will hold Mercer to 7 points they are kidding themselves. I will say Mercer 35-7!
  15. The one point that I have yet to see on this thread is Mercer's defense. I have watched them play 3 games this year and yes the have tremendous speed, but another huge thing is how fast and physical their defense is. I believe that Boyle may be the best offense they face all season and they totally shut their run game down and made them very one dimensional. Now I am taking nothing away from anyone but I find it hard to believe that there are going to be too many teams put more than that on the board against Mercer, which means you will have to hold their offense to under 14 (not going to happen). Defense wins championships and Mercer's defense is the best that I have seen. Is Coach Jaggers still calling both the offense and defense?
  16. Why did Boyle wear their home uni? Was it a statement? Does anyone know or did you all even notice? I noticed and assumed there was an agreement worked out between school, but have read different. I could see this as being more low class than middle/non-football playing high school kids bragging about a (finally) better than average football team. What were the coaches thinking?
  17. Another post brought up the question: "Why did Boyle wear their HOME uniforms to an away game?" I noticed that. Seems to me that would excite the home team and provide a little more emotion? Was there an agreement made between schools or a statement that wasn't backed up?:sssh:
  18. Finally, I took the opportunity to see these two play. What a treat. Bar-BQ (Dunn's I believe) was great...atmosphere electric...crowds energetic...pads popping! What a game. The home fans I STOOD with were great and welcomed several Boyle and Danville fans to their area. I have made it a point to see Boyle play at least 2 games a year for several now, so I have seen them and I have a frame of reference. Being a 3rd party I think I can give a good account of the game. It was sloppy at times, but all in all great! Mercer O: Too many mistakes to be a state champion, but they have the talent to score 42+ on most teams (1A-4A). They look as if they never work on the pass, although the QB threw a great ball. The RB/WR/TE's couldn't catch. The bone has proven to be a winner, but I find it a little uuummm boring. The 2-3 back that carried the ball made it a little more fun. I honestly thought #2 and #23 would score on any touch from any where. Mercer D: They are fast and tackle well. Very good vs the run. They seemed a little weak at zone coverage (Flats are still open), but their M/M looked okay. They took advantage of almost every opportunity to make a tackle or INT. They seemed to be a little undisciplined vs Boyles trap game. Handled a short field/adversity VERY well. It seemed the O constantly put them in tough spots, but they hung in there. Lots of emotion. Boyle O: They had trouble running the ball from under center...very atypical for a boyle team. Passing attack was very vanilla. QB seemed to lock on a guy as soon as he recieved the ball and forced it (3 ints). They are missing a special player split wide and I would have put #21 to the trips side to get him involved. They look like the same team w/o the 2-3 D-1 players and minus a running game. QB looks young. Boyle D: They are smaller than usual, but as disciplined as every and as aggressive as ever! They gave up a couple big plays, but with #2 and #23 packing the ball who isn't? I was impressed with the youth! Over all: I thought the better team won the game due to a very good D and some ridiculous speed on offense. MC needs serious work with their special teams! I would not rule out seeing Danville, Mercer, and Boyle in Louisville. Good luck to both teams, I see BC going on a major winning streak. One more thing, I could care less how many kids MC has. I never hear BC complain while beating Danville or losing to Danville. I am assuming BC has roughly double the # of boys than Danville.
  19. I'm a Louisville area HS football fan and I was just tuggin' your chain a little. No affence taken or intended I know what it is like to be in the district and I believe every team in the state should somehow get a dose once every 3-4 years, just to keep their heads out of the clouds.
  20. Decline since winning a title in 96 or in decline since "upsetting" you and your boys at Manual in 2004? The program took a turn for the worse in 1999 when they started being paired up with the X/H/M and Butler/PRP district. Like I have said the Nelson Co kids are hard-nosed, tough kids with good football minds and a LITTLE talent (1995-1998 great talent!). Always have been and always will be. Coach B and the rest DO NOT need upset parents voicing their opinion about nothing. This team SHOULD be greatly improved from last years...they have a ton of returning starts that are just Jrs. I was told the JV team pretty much started on Friday as well. They'll be fine and the offense will keep them in most every game.
  21. Did some checking...19-15 in 2002-2004 (Nelson County had only 19 wins in the previous 3 season)...0-10 in 2005, district coach of the year honors in 2003 and 2004 and 2-2 vs Bardstown. For a young (immature if you will) that ain't bad vs the teams they played. I also noticed that Nelson County was VERY competitive in the games they lost. Sounds like something else happened. I also believe I've seen Coach Mason's name in the mix at #2 Mercer County...seems like the folks in Harrodsburg are excited to have him calling their D that has been scored on once. I witnessed the Male game in 2002...Nelson County had the 2nd best team they faced all year...and the 2004 upset victory of the top 5 Manual team...those were some hard nosed CLASSY Nelson County teams (the 2000 Nelson County team that lost to Male in the first round was a far cry from CLASSY). That is what we expect to see come to Louisville from Nelson County. I met Coach Mason at the Louisville Coaches association meetings...he wasn't immature. I know there was an ugly break-up between Coach Mason and Nelson County...let it go at this...He was a good coach for 3 season and he is a good coach today.
  22. Tons of hype for a merged school that has not made it past the second round in 5-6 years. Beating week teams by 50 doesn't win a state championship. This community better not put all their eggs in one basket. I'll have to come to the Boyle game to see for my self.
  23. I saw Lou. Western last week at H-burg. They do not have a "high octane" offense. They have some talented players, but I would not consider their O high octane. The QB didn't look like he could fling it 15 yards? I will give Western the nod based on athletism...but Breathitt will be tough! I'll say Western 26 - Breathitt 21.
