John Hardin @ Nelson Co. Predictions

Featured Replies

Both teams come in 2-0 in the district and looking for at least one home playoff game.

This game will also be the 10 year reunion of Mark Brown's 1996 AAAA State Championship team that defeated Paul Dunbar. The last team to win the state title outside of the big 3. Brown, now coaches at John Hardin will be recognized along with all the players before the game and at halftime.

Now, for the game.....

Nelson County will play with emotion and desire but in the end.....

Bulldogs 42

Cardinals 25

Nelson Co. is never an easy place to play let it be a district game and the crazies will be out. I believe John has to much speed for the Cardinals to handle on both sides of the ball. Brown will call a conservative game keeping it close but John wins.

Doesn't Brown always call it conservative? Nelson maybe too physical for them! JH is very soft this year.

Nelson County's defense is playing very well right now. LB Brandon Williams has had double digit tackles for four straight games, and is starting to show a good nose for the blitz. Nelson also has a veteran secondary, and keeps the ball in front of them. Noone is going to be faster on the field than D'Sean Patterson, so I don't think JH's offense is going to run away from them.

This game will come down to ball control, field position, and clock management, all of which fall on the shoulders of Nelson's sophomore QB Jordan Keene. Jordan for the first time in young career started calling his own number this week, and he is electric when he gets to the linebackers. Also, Nelson's TE's (Jesse Beavers and J.D. Stone) are starting to feel the game more, and may actually be difference makers on Friday.

Nelson also has a kicker, Nick Smith, who could be prolific. Kicking nearly every one of his kickoffs out of the end zone, and hit a 35 yd. FG that would have been good from 55.

I'll take Nelson, say 24-21.

Surely someone out there has other opinions.

This could be game of the week.... I will predict between Wednesday and Friday.

Brown could surprize all of us, open it in the spread offensive. Now as far as John being soft, not going to argue that. Work still in progress, but the Defensive is showing signs of coming around.

An aspect I had forgotten was that N.C.'s Bart Bruner was the DC at St. X when X and JH played in the region finals last year. These two have seen each other and Bruner has perhaps learned from whatever problems he had last year.

Very good point :thumb:

The problem that faces Bruner is he does not have the speed at Nelson that he had at X. This year John has been a work in progress on the offensive side of the ball and since week #1 have made strides in the passing game. The backfield has a number of weapons that can score on any given play. If Nelson plays 8 in the box or 9 to stop the run, look for John's QB to have a big night.

I fine that funny due to the fact the Sophmore QB has done everything Coach Brown has asked. Game one he bailed them out coming off the bench, and since then play within himself. Needless to said the O-line has not been playing up to there capiblities. He is 18/29 with 4/3 not stats that is going to blew you away, but remember John is a run heavy team. Honestly his recievers has drop many of his incomplete passes, it is not that our QB is not very good our reciever corp is sub-par at best. Coach Brown is bringing him along just fine not to said the young man has not made mistakes. The future looks brite at John, GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!

So why should we look for John's QB to have a big night if Nelson puts 8 or 9 in the box if:

1)First off, he is a sophomore. Very young and raw to be playing in a big game with little big game experience.

2)O-Line is not playing to their capabilities which means they probably will have trouble with the blitz if JH's young QB drops back to pass.

3)WR's have had trouble catching balls thrown to them

4) WR corp is sub-par at best.

I havent even seen the JH QB play a snap. Just stating what I heard.
