  1. :ohbrother: Do you foresee any surprise wins in Round 1 games? Thoughts.
  2. Courier-Journal http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20091102/SPORTS05/911020377/1002/sports/KHSAA++Male+TD+run+came+on+illegal+play “I don't know what happened,” he (Bob Redman) said Monday. “I guess it was another one of those mythical, legendary moments in the rivalry.” Thoughts?
  3. My thoughts and prayers are with the Rudd family, Dixie, and the Rudd's extended family.
  4. quello che sarà sarà What will be will be.
  5. You are correct. The game was played at EKU. The attempted field goal was blocked and everyone but one Bellevue player just stopped and he picked up the football and ran it for a touchdown.
  6. I think it will be a close game. Went to the Trinity - Elder game and saw X against the Birds. However, I have to go with my old high school - St. X.
  7. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/2009/09/28/bardo-injury-update/ My best for Will and for his family.
  8. As one of the "Detrol" characters I can say that there is definitely an advantage to being closer to the restroom. LOL
  9. Way to go BIRDS!!! When I saw Cameron Dierig #53 line up against #78 from X I thought he was a lamb being led to the slaughter. Turned out he was an awesome tiger. Congratulation to the Birds both players and students. The end of the game was awesome.
  10. Friday night will be a very personal night for me. On the one hand my high school (X), where I graduated from and played football, will play the high school (HHS) where my children graduated from and one played football. I have been a fan of the Birds for more years than some of you have been alive. With that said I look forward to enjoying a high school football game. Not complicated just very simple and very straight forward.
  11. OHSAA reclassified "Anderson" to Division I. Small Division I school but Division I.
  12. You opened the door. So I will walk in. I hope people remember that little old HHS is a 3A school playing up in the 5A division!
  13. Just got returned from the trip to Louisville for the Highlands duPont Manual football game. I was impressed with their facility. Talked to a couple of gentlemen from duPont Manual and they told me that the money and labor to maintain the facility did not come from the school but from volunteers. I salute them and their work. From my non-professional perspective the game pretty much was what I expected. Both teams were now going at earnest in the football season with a number of rough edges to smooth out. The Rams have a very fast moving offense that needs to pace itself better. While they can move the ball effectively, they have problems sustaining drives without creating problems for themselves. At least in this game the quarterback was their most effective weapon. Defensively, their linebackers were their most effective weapon. They are very athletic and cover the field very well. As one often hears the defense is far ahead of the offense in the early part of the season. The Birds offense is very effective but players new to their positions need to develop their skills which come only with more game experience. On defense the Birds have a fine group of players that will only improve with each passing game.
  14. First I want to “Thank” Henry521 for passing out a three part card that can be folded and put into a purse or wallet that has the 2009 Varsity and JV Football Schedule and Roster. I don’t remember if I thanked her but it is great. Again, Thanks! I thought it was a great scrimmage for both teams from the performance on the field. Only the coaches really know what they were trying to assess on the performance of individual players and the team as a whole. I am not that familiar with Male but it appears to me that they are a ball control team that will lull you to sleep and strike suddenly. On the other hand Highlands seems to have a very opportunistic offensive scheme that will attack a perceived or real weakness of their opponent. Both teams are very well coached and prepared. What can you say about Austin Collinsworth? He is one of the most complete football players I have ever seen. What can’t the young man do? I really don’t know. Will Bardo, #3, is a cool customer and the field general. He throws an excellent spiral and seems to remain cool under fire. Jordan Streeter, #44, is a flat-out burner. The young man has some great wheels and is very aware of his surroundings. Appears to have great peripheral vision and explodes when he needs to. Brandon Roller, #19, is back with a vengeance. He has the right pedigree and uses his talents to the utmost. Austin Abner, #5, is a headhunter. If he were in the military he would be a Navy Seal. It seems to me that Highlands will have a very good season.
  15. Based on their schedule: Aug. 28, vs. Cincinnati Colerain (Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown at UC’s Nippert Stadium), 8:30 p.m. Sept. 4, at Indianapolis Cathedral Sept. 11, at Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier Sept. 18, Louisville Trinity Sept. 25, at Fort Thomas (Ky.) Highlands Oct. 2, Cincinnati Elder Oct. 9, Cincinnati LaSalle Oct. 17, Lakewood St. Edward, 2 p.m. Oct. 24, at Cleveland St. Ignatius, 2 p.m. Oct. 30, at Cincinnati Moeller Their easiest game may be Cincinnati LaSalle. Just my opinion.
  16. This site may answer some questions raised in this thread. http://www.highlands-bluebirds.com/
  17. Knowing you and LN for many years, I listen to the both of you and found that I can always rely on what both of you say. Your good people.
  18. "Nestled amongst the hills of Northern Kentucky resides one of the top programs in the nation." Having been born in West Virginia and with a mother who hails from Hazard, I think of that scenery as "hills." In Fort Thomas I think of it as flat. Guess I am pretty bias in topography. All in all I liked any article that promotes the athletes in the Commonwealth. I think the Commonwealth in athletics has been kept secret or ignored for too long.
  19. Why national media? Don't get wrong I think that coverage for the kids is great and I applaud it. But why?
  20. Based on their schedule with KY teams: Sept. 11, at Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier Sept. 18, Louisville Trinity Sept. 25, at Fort Thomas (Ky.) Highlands Looks like Louisville St. X gets them first, then Trinity, and then Highlands. What a set of three games. What do you think their record will be after that?
  21. Cincinnati St. Xavier preview http://www.jjhuddle.com/news/articles/2009/7/20/specht-the-ball-just-didnt-bounce-our-way-last-year
  22. Someone told me Highlands scrimmaged Moeller this morning, if true how did it go?
  23. Who is the best or greatest football player at Highlands? In my opinion to select such an individual is not what Highlands’ football is about. Highlands Football is about TEAM. Football is a TEAM sport. The greatest football player is every young man who has put on the Highlands’ uniform. They are Highlands’ Best.
