I thought Coach Cobb moving 53 (Hager) to nose guard was a great move. Makes him more aggressive and involved every play. The interior line of Whitson, Hager, Lowery, and Lee had their best game. Linebackers were very active for Somerset but our D-ends and corners still need to learn to tackle. Offensively was very positive night, Hughes and Hunter ran hard. I love to see the young Cobb at center and just blowing off the line and making holes,him the smallest man on the field. I loved the no -huddle also, you already have the defense on their heels with Deaton to Cole, it just puts more pressure on them. Keep improving Jumpers and we'll be playing late into November!!!

The Jumpers need to take it one game at a time and not even think about winning district yet. If they do not show the desire and toughness it takes to win football games they will not beat either Harlan or Lynn Camp even though I predict that they do make a step forward this week and hopefully improve each week. When are these Jumpers going to stand up and make defensive plays? We are just too soft to tackle the proper way. I see arm tackling all over the field, it is not hard to break 10 tackles in one play when no one on the defensive side wants to hit you. They want to reach out and grab you and pull you down. Cam, Ho-Ho, Whitson, K-Mo, Hager it is time for you seniors to lead this team and get in someone's grill!!!! I know you are coached to tackle better than what you have done now it is time to show the heart and desire to do it.

I also am surprised at the outcome of this one, but if SW had 5 turnovers and committed that many more penalties then I can see it. I sure don't see how Jumperpride says if you play physical with Southwestern that you "beat them everytime". That is just not the case. SW is a physical football team. Good luck the rest of the way Warriors!!

That is a great point Hector, you are exactly right. Gutsy call and it worked for them. I think if Somerset had of gotten the ball back then they may have had the momentum to score the game winner. Good coaching decision!!!

In answer to your question Guru if they match the intensity that they played with last night and Superman Cole can continue to catch the ball in double and triple coverage like he did last night and the biggest "if' is if we can contain anything ran outside the tackles, then we can keep it close. I was very proud of the way our kids battled tonight, Southwestern was just a better football team. too big, too deep and well coached. Both teams had chances last night so the mistakes were a wash but a big interception late in the first half while we were driving and in field goal range cost us big as SW scored off of that turnover. Then again Cody Gibson drops a sure touchdown pass for them that he will not drop again the rest of his life so it evens out. This was just a good high school football game. Great crowd, fans from both teams really showed up and supported their teams!! Good luck to both teams the rest of the way!! I do feel much better about the Jumpers chances to compete for district and region again after last night. Did I mention that John Cole gave a Superman type performance last night!!!

I just can't make myself pick against the Jumpers even though we have a long way to compete with Southwestern from our first game. I do hope this is the year that the Warriors make a long run in the playoffs and eventually end up in Louisville. I do hope it is after an 0-2 start however!!!! Coach Cobb fixes the defense enough and Jumpers prevail 34-33. John Wright is deal maker!!!

For the Somerset Briar Jumpers it is Belinda Hinton, her son has graduated and she still cooks breakfast for the team every Friday morning and is there for anything those young men, the coaches or any of the parents need. She is tireless in her endeavours in helping the Somerset Briar Jumpers. However the most special is Dallas Salmons, Dallas has struggled with bad health problems the last few years but he mows, rakes, and is the foreman and ringleader of the field paint crew. He is a special man and does not get near the credit he deserves-mostly because he does not seek it- but he is loved and honored by those who know him!!!

Once again I thought Coach Cobb played it close to the vest. John Cole is an amazing athlete. Man it is going to be such a pleasure to watch him this season. I was impressed with our defense tonight. If I want to see 1 thing from this group, it is the tenacity and toughness it takes to win big games and I think that will come but the seniors need to step up and lead this bunch!! Could be a great year for the Purple and Gold!!!

#85 would be Kyle Moore and yes he had a good scrimmage. I did not mean to infer that Hager did not have a good scrimmage but man that guy has so much potential and I love his mean streak!! That is just what we need!!

Big numbers for Mercer, that is great guys. I thought Coach Cobb played it pretty close to the vest last night and got what he wanted out of this scrimmage. Our corners and d.b.'s must step up and hit someone. I thought Kyle Moore did a good job in the defensive backfield, but those young kids need to get tough and hit someone!! Cam Jones I thought looked good at linebacker and catching the ball. I too believe we will contend for district and region but we have got to get someone that will mash your mouth for you and Michael Hager you must be that man!!! Be a leader son and play hard every single play!!!!

I am with ya there 60, our sons have left this group something to build on and I cannot wait. Looks like we are road tripping this season all the way to Louisville I hope!!

What a tragedy!! He was a pleasure to watch play!! My thoughts are with his family.

Mercer Titan is correct, the game is at Mercer Thursday night. What type offense will Mercer run, I am anxious to see how the Jumpers perform. Just as in the last few seasons it is going to come down to the defense. Good luck on the season Jumpers!!!

Thanks I know Coach Cobb will have whomever is out there ready and prepared and I expect another big year from the Jumpers if they stay healthy!!!

Jumper1 or other Somerset fans I am hearing numbers are way down this year. Is there any validity to this? I know the Jumpers were lucky last year when they had a few injuries that they had good people to step in.

I agree with the Mayfield and Somerset switch and I think I may even have Louisville Holy Cross higher than the Jumpers and the Cardinals. Holy Cross has been so close in the last few years and this year may be their year. Somerset will once again need to prove their toughness and ability to defend the run.
