Somerset 69 Cumberland 27

Featured Replies

Somerset took out their frustrations on an overmatched Cumberland team. Since Harlan has been the most highly regarded team in the district thus far, and they had a very tough time with Cumberland last week is the rest of the district in trouble. Somerset's tackling still wasn't great but it was better and the last touchdown was scored on the JVs. There's a lot of football left to be played and a team with a back like Roskopf can put up points on Somerset but barring injury it will be hard for anyone in this district to score with them. Especially if they run the ball as well as they did tonight--this was much more than the Deaton to Cole show. Good win Jumpers, keep building on it.

I didn't get out of there until the radio broadcast was off the air. However Cole had I believe 3 touchdown catches and a punt return for a touchdown. The latter was in spite of the fact that Cumberland tried to do the rugby-style line drive punt. Unfortunately it took a big hop right to Cole and he blew past everyone down the sideline. Kenny Hughes had a touchdown catch and two runs. Cumberland had one really fast back who had a couple of really long runs but they just couldn't slow down Somerset's offense at all.

I finally got the stats. For Somerset Deaton was 12-19 for 406 yards , 5tds no ints. Cole had 7 catches for 233 yards 3 tds and a punt return for a td. A.T. Hunter had 8 carries for 82 yards 3 tds rushing, 1 td receiving. Kenny Hughes had 13 carries for 91 yards 1 rushing 1 td, 1 td receiving.

For Cumberland Zach Blanton was 6-18 for 105 yards 1 td 2 ints. Nathaniel Gilliam had 14 carries for 202 yards and 3 tds.

I thought Coach Cobb moving 53 (Hager) to nose guard was a great move. Makes him more aggressive and involved every play. The interior line of Whitson, Hager, Lowery, and Lee had their best game. Linebackers were very active for Somerset but our D-ends and corners still need to learn to tackle.

Offensively was very positive night, Hughes and Hunter ran hard. I love to see the young Cobb at center and just blowing off the line and making holes, him the smallest man on the field. I loved the no -huddle also, you already have the defense on their heels with Deaton to Cole, it just puts more pressure on them.

Keep improving Jumpers and we'll be playing late into November!!!

Im glad to get the W. It was one of those "angry" victories where you just explode on one side of the ball. However, the defense still gave up over 400 yards of offense to Cumberland. Something that we now have two weeks to work on.
