Some others that come to mind: Carl Foster, Phil Popp, Rick Batsche, Ken Wilfong, Ron Dawn Sr., Mark Krebs SR & JR, Dave Faust, Charlie Craddock, Terry Sandfoss, Gary DeVoto. I know there are many more in their storied history but I can't think of them right now.

I thought of George Schloemer too right away! How about Richard Derkson? John VonLehman? Jim Rippe? So many great players in the 5 straight regional champion run!

This was pretty much a "good ole fashion butt whippin" by the Mustangs in the second half. HC's offense was ineffective because they refused to penetrate. They continually ran an offense with high screens and Brossart did a great job of switching men and totally shutting them down. When HC did finally get to the free throw line, they couldn't hit those either. Meanwhile, it seemed like Brossart's big men couldn't miss a free throw. Brossart has really become a tough place to get a win over the last few years. They play very physical and if you let them get a little momentum, they're off to the races! Should be a very good game with Oak Hills today. Oak Hills is the most fundamentally sound team I have seen in a long time. Not great talent, but they won't beat theirselves.

Senior Johntai Scruggs has not played as of yet. He is a returning starter who will be the 4 or 5 possibly to take some of the defensive heat off of Wil Eifert. Eifert has gotten into foul trouble a lot because Scruggs has not been there. Junior Kevin Barth is also out. He is the first big man off the bench.

Not sure which player he was because Mackey is the only one who really stood out in the game. I guarantee you he played well though, because noone on Scott Co had a bad game!

Scott Co. 78 Holy Cross 58 Indians played a very good game but ran out of gas at the end! Scott Co was up 8 points with 3 minutes to play and got several runouts at the end for the final margin. Score was tied 39 all at the half. HC only played 6 players. Their top 6 played even with Scott for almost 3 quarters but the Cardinals just wore them down at the end. Scott Co is loaded and used a 10 or 12 player rotation. They are the real deal for sure! Mackey (sp) led the Cardinals with 28 points and Jimmy Ryan had 27 for HC. Mackey is a junior who has already committed to IU. He had a great game! Hitting shots with people hanging on him, falling down, etc. Terrific player! Officials were awesome. They let both teams play and didn't call all the ticky tack fouls we're accustomed to seeing up here. Good luck to NCC Friday at Scott Co!

Holy Cross defeated Holmes tonight in a very good game to watch 54-46. Both teams top 5 players are very talented!

If it was high school only, Doug Schlomer has to be top ten at least. He started 4 years on the varsity, led his team downstate three of those four years and was named Mr Basketball. I can't think of any better credentials than that!

I'm pretty sure that is Eddie Ross with Schlomer.

Todd Conley from Elkhorn City, graduated somewhere around 1999 I think.

The Louisville Male & Central teams in the early 70's were awful good.

HC may win but it won't be easy! They have the most talent in the A this year but that never seems to matter much in this tournament. I guarantee you NCC and St Henry will be serious threats. Year in, year out, any of these three teams can win the 9th Region All A, no matter who has the talent that particular year.

After allowing Beechwood to dominate the first 1 1/2 quarters, HC seemed to settle down and tell themselves to just play football and not to worry about the score and magnitude of the game etc. They played much better with that mental outlook and actually outscored Beechwood 14-3 the rest of the way. I'm sure it would've been different with Bankamper in there, but my point is they quit thinking and just started playing football. I really don't think HC can defeat NCC and Beechwood back to back, but I do think their program took another baby step ahead last night learning how to mentally prepare and play in a big game. I think Beechwood is still on a level by themselves in Class A! Good luck to all the remaining Class A teams!

Lots of talk about Ryan, Giwa & Eifert when talking about Holy Cross. I think their best player this year will be Corey Sorrell. I heard he had a great summer and is much improved over last year. He shot almost 50% from 3 point land last year. He could be the player who "puts them over the hump". They will have a strong starting 5, but depth will be a problem.

9th Region year in year out is basically three teams: NCC, HC & St Henry. Holy Cross should be favored this year but when it comes to the All A, either of these three could win it.
