The Cumberland Falls Invitational is a very well run tournament. The folks of Corbin know hospitality. Good final game against Franklin County. FC was down as much as 10 points in the first half and I think 5 or 6 at the break. Franklin County came back in the second half to even and maybe a brief 1 point lead. Corbin is well coached and went to a 3/4 court trapping zone late in the 3rd running two defenders at FC's point guard Vance Hall forcing him to give the ball up early. In the end, that strategy as well as a very good offensive game by Madison Johnson of Corbin was the difference. It seemed every time FC threatened with a run, Johnson countered with some very nice offensive plays.

Mike Walker is a very good player. Lafayette is a team that can make some noise in the 11th.

These team will meet twice more, and possibly a third time this season. Will the games get uglier? Will one team try to take the other's star out? Are these the reasons there are so many fouls called? Do the refs need to protect the players or keep this game from escalating into something more like a backyard brawl?

I think GRC will be fine. They have a good coach and players that will work hard to get better. They are playing the best right now which will only make them better.

Cross Town Rivalry with lots of emotion. Wasn't at the game but heard there were lots and lots of fouls called. I was told that the foul count was in Western Hills favor. Riddle for Hills scored 24 points connecting on only two field goals. Is this correct???????

I agree with you. Very difficult for one guy to beat a team. I figured this one would go down to the wire. FC jumped out to a nice lead first half. St X implemented the old "box and chaser" on Hall late in the 1st quarter as no one individual from X could guard him. I think FC was up about 6 at the half. In the 3rd Hall had to exit to tape an ankle that he tweeked. Immediately X took advantage with some hard half court traps and pulled near even. The 4th quater had FC maintaining a one to three point lead until X tied the game with 7.1 seconds left. At this point St X was in the full court press with no one guarding the inbound and two guys sandwiching Hall to prevent him from getting the ball. FC calls a time out to set up an inbounds play. The play was for Hall to run out and throw to him over top of the press. Apparently the X coaching staff had their team prepared for this senario and had two safety's playing deep. Hall went up between two defenders to get a fifty-fifty ball and there was contact. He fell to the ground losing the ball to an X player with 4.1 seconds left and the game tied at 68-68. St X calls a time out. Credit the X coaching staff for getting their team in a position to get a last second shot for the win. X inbounded the ball from the backcourt to (I think #15,not sure), he dribbled to just inside the three point line and threw up a "Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee......" with 0.1 seconds left and banked it in for the win. Great ball game, FC had their chances to win the game, but credit the St X coaches as well as the players for pulling this one out. Congratulations to St X and good luck against Madison Central!!!!!

I'm sure they are very well coached and will play hard.

You think Trinity is top 10 right now? Ballard may be deserving of a # 1 ranking.

Will they play man or zone?

Franklin County's Vance Hall has scored 38 and 34 in his last two outings. I understand that St X has a solid team and has played well of late. What will X do to slow down Hall? Will other players for FCHS step up? Tip Off at 5:30 pm @ the Frankfort Convention Center.

Hall is averaging over 27 points a game. He has the entire package. He may be the best all around player in the 11th Region. St X tonight at 5:30.

# 3 is a very good player and was having his way especially 1st half. When FC put the freshman Timmons on him in the 2nd half he gave # 3 real problems that slowed him down and ultimately helped FC pull out the win.

Timmons gave there ball handlers real problems including #3.

He is making nearly 85% of his free throws. No player from Scott could guard him, he was going to the rim against two and three players all night. He would make them miss resulting in drawing fouls. Jennels for FC also had a nice game, probably his best of the season.

Final it was Vance Hall against the world and Vance won!!!!!

In the third quarter when others made shots and became a threat to score, it opened things up for Hall, at that point he dominated. When it's Vance against the world, the world is a heavy favorite.

I'm not surprised by this outcome. Walker is a very good player. Although their overall record last season may not catch your eye, they finshed strong. The I don't think they lost much from last year. Great win Lafayette!!!!!

No problem on the type-o. Just felt like he needs to get proper credit. Friday night at district foe Woodford Co. Eric caught the brunt of Woodford's student section with chants like "Barrett's better" and "you're not your brother". All in fun no doubt, but this kid doesn't need to feel like he is in his brothers shadow.

The kid with 12 for FC is Eric Meyer, younger brother of Barrett Meyer who is now at Transy. Eric was 4 for 5 from three and IMO is a better shooter than his older brother. FC needs others to be a threat to score in order to open things up for Hall. Meyer needs to step up and find a way to get more tick.

Clark will be hard to handle this year.

The 2-2-1 pres is LC's signature defense as you folks at Cov Cath know very well. They teach it well and have proven sucess with it. IMo it works very well in High School as teams must handle and pass the ball very well to beat it. The downside for a kid that goes to the next level is that they don't learn how to play man to man which is a must in college, therefore they have a learning curve in order to catch up. A quick kid like Beckham playing at the front of the 2-2-1 will get most of his points off layups after back tip steals.

Is # 33 Shute? Was he trying to intimidate? Can't imagine what it was he did. I always thought the kid was 100% Class.

I saw Sewell play last season and was impressed. He has skills and is very strong and athletic. Trinity is also very well coached, but this score even in a scrimmage surprises me. Doesn't Scott County start 5 D1's compared to Trinity's one?

Do they not know how to play hard all the time???? I thought it counted every time you step on the court, and the score board lights are on. Surely they haven't taken on a "primadonna attitude" that they will only step up "when it counts". I thought every game counted. With the talent they have, they should be every bit as good as they were last season. IMO players and teams will only improve if they play and practice hard all the time. Sounds to me like Clark County has taken on this type of work ethic.
