My high school coach had a first class, old fashioned style when it came to how you looked. For four years we had to have short hair, no facial hair, no piercings, and we had to have our shirts tucked in. We had to arrive and leave home games wearing a shirt and tie. Not to mention we had to say "yes sir" and no sir" everytime we were spoken to. I played from 2002-2005.

Overall thoughts: 1) If June Buchanan doesn't compete for the 14th region title, then I will be very suprised. Against Pendleton County they used a zone, but sometimes they would extend it 3/4 and full court. IMO it was effective because PC's undersized guards had trouble throwing over it. Belcher did end up having 17 points and over 10 rebounds, but he definitely had to work for it. They also have all of the tools to win their region. 2)Clark Stepp, IMO, is a PLAYER. Yes I know that he did not score as much as he usually does, but he definitely impressed me. He is great at taking two dribbles with one hand then crossing over one time and drawing defenders to kick it out to wide open shooters. People don't realize how valuable this is, especially when you have a good shooting team(in which JBS does). He had ten assists, but it seemed like he had more. Many people probably didn't notice this, but he shoots with both hands very well. I think he is originally is left handed, but he shot a few right handed jump shots and floaters. 3) I thought Pendleton County played hard and held their own. Like I said in the PC/JBS preview thread, matchups was going to be a key. It was. One downfall for JBS was their bench. They didn't have many subs and I noticed they got tired easily a couple of times. Also give credit to PC for pushing the ball to cause fatigue. Tate Cox has a pure shot from the corner. I was only there for 3 1/2 quarters and he must of hit 4 or 5 from the same spot. The big kid was also solid as well as the other Buchanan players. A game like this is nothing below good for an inexperienced Pendleton team. Congrats to JBS and good luck to both teams.

Matchups in this game WILL be a factor. According to the Cats Pause Yearbook, June Buchanan has junior guard Clark Stepp who averaged 25ppg last season along with a guard named Tate Cox who averaged 17ppg last season as an 8th grader. The 6'9'' post player averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds last season. If all of this plays out to what it says, it will be a tough game for Pendleton County. Then again PC has 6'8'' senior Kane Belcher who is versatile and being recruited by a lot of schools. It will interesting to see the outcome.

True. If it wasn't for Willie Schlarman, Brossart's program may not be where it is today. His players did a good job of buying into his "slow tempo" system. This and Justin Seiter's shot at the Fieldhouse helped them get to the Elite Eight in 2000.

Where were you tonight Bird Man? I wasn't paying much attention on who was there and who wasn't. There was a good crowd in the gym tonight :thumb: I was in the gym. As a matter of fact I believe we spoke once during the game.

Belcher had 23. I saw many BGPers at the game tonight: U Reach I Teach, Old Soda, Sharp, A Town Pride, Quagmire, FortysMom, OverTheBack1, and AHSPanther23 to name a few.

Pendleton County moves up to 3-3 and Augusta falls to 4-4 as the Wildcats win on Homecoming. It was a very sloppy game, but it was a solid confidence booster for PC heading into Christmas. If I had to guess , I'd say that both teams had at least 18-20 turnovers apiece. Kane Belcher led Pendleton in scoring and not to mention was crowned Homecoming King. Pendleton County's next game is on Dec. 26 as they play June Buchanan in the 5/3 Classic. Augusta's next game is against Lloyd Memorial on the 27th in the Bracken County Holiday Tournament.

Pendleton needs to win this game. If the Panthers guards play well, it will be a dog fight the whole way. It will be too much Belcher for the former district opponent as the Wildcats win on Homecoming night.

2005 10th Region Finals Pendleton County beat Montgomery County 71-42 to win their first 10th title since 1971. In the three regional games that year, PC defeated their opponents a combined total of 225-139.

Pendleton is 2-2 heading into the Newport game. They need to get this one and the Augusta game before heading into the prestigious 5/3 Holiday Classic. After the 5/3, they will play in the MCIT.

I wouldn't call it embarassing. St. Pat and Augusta are pretty good this season. Losing to two, good, class "A" schools is never embarassing. IMO.

When is the last time that Fleming lost to St. Pat and Augusta in the same season?

Heard that PC won on a shot at the buzzer by senior guard Jeremy Mudd. This gave Chad Simms his first victory as a head coach. The Wildcats record is now 1-1. They travel to Dixie Heights on Friday.

I remember those goal tending plays as well. It was like after he blocked it "illegally" the first time it made the Mason Co. players think twice about shooting over him the following times. Patrick Ewing used to do the same thing at Georgetown.

This has already been mentioned, but in 2004 when Warren Central beat Mason County in the finals. I remember Dewalt catching the ball one handed off a rebound and slamming it home. I remember thinking in my head that it was the best "live" dunk that I had ever seen. I also remember sitting in the stands with my family and I turned to my dad and said, "How can you only score 5 points and flat out dominate a basketball game?" Lonnel DeWalt had something ridiculous like 5 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocks. He was amazing during that tournament. The Dragons were fun to watch that year. I also liked how when the starting lineups were called that DeWalt and one of his teammates would act like they were boxing. If you remember this, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Good start for Augusta. For a class "A" school especially, starting out 3-0 is a big deal. It's a big deal no matter who you are. I will be rooting them on to beat Calvary and Montgomery. Last year I got to see Augusta play Pendleton County in the first round of the region. I was truly impressed in how hard the Panthers played and how they were NOT intimidated. It could of been really easy for them to come to the Fieldhouse that night and be scared. But they were not and put up a good fight. Good luck to Coach Kelsch and the Augusta Panthers.
