Mustangs improve to 7-0 heading into the 5th/3rd and 3-0 in the NKAC Division II Conference race.

 

Brossart led coast to coast outscoring the Birds in each period 15-11, 16-12, 18-11, and 17-11.

 

Nathan Mutsch and Troy Cooper combine for 46 points, with 21 and 25 respectively.

 

Simpson held to a single field goal and seven free-throws for 10 points.

McGraw is a warrior, scoring 20 points.

Nate Mutsch, Troy Cooper, Bryan Niemeyer, and Josh Kidney all had big games.... Kudos to those fellows. Good win for the Stangs

Sloppy game. Lots of fouls, turnovers, and breaks in the game. Highlands was just not athletic enough to keep up with Brossart. I felt like Highlands played the game the way that they wanted to. Brossart was just too much for them to handle, no question who the better team was.

Nick Simpson carries too much of the load. Highlands has some big guys to bang down low, but the talent level there seemed pretty raw. Nick needs another ballhandler on the team to get the pressure off of him so he can move on the floor. Good luck the rest of the way to the Birds.

Troy Cooper and Nathan Mutsch played like MEN amongst boys today. The rest of the Mustangs did their jobs. Kidney did a really good job of controlling the floor. Hopefully this undefeated steak can be extended when the Mustangs travel to Lexington to play in the 5/3 Classic.

True. If it wasn't for Willie Schlarman, Brossart's program may not be where it is today. His players did a good job of buying into his "slow tempo" system. This and Justin Seiter's shot at the Fieldhouse helped them get to the Elite Eight in 2000.

Was there at the JV game, but had to leave unexpectedly early due to my son dislocating his finger in the first half. Was playing a pretty good game too.

It was just dislocated, no break. Still have to see ortho to see about tendon, ligament damage. At the hospital it went right back into place. It looked aweful, his left ring finger was not going the right way.

Thanks, last year this time he broke his left wrist at the Holy Cross tourney. He was pretty bummed at first, but I think since there was no break, he's hoping to get back sooner. Provided the tendon isn't damaged.

Well good luck to him, that certainly looked ugly. I'm sure his toughness will pay off in Willie's system.

I expected Cooper and Mutsch to do most of the scoring. The Birds didnt have an answer for Cooper last year. It seems Simpson is in somewhat of a funk. Past 3 games he has not lead the team in scoring. McGraw is stepping up but someone else has to take some pressure off. ONe of those 8 juniors has to take it upon themselves to step up and score in double digits.
