I can remember a time when you HAD to be clean shaven and short hair to play on some high school teams....Do you think that most coaches dont care anymore, or has times just changed drastically? What are your thoughts.......

A little of both.

I know of a baseball team in Northern Kentucky where that is mandatory...

I guess you never saw Ritchie Farmer when he played at Clay County???

It was a requirement from my coach in the 70's. We also wore a sports coat and tie to away games. We played lousy but we looked good doing it!!!:lol:

:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: I can attest to that! The Ramblers in that year were the only b.b. team in the state that never touched a b.b. in practice:eek: . All practice was nothing but running. We had the best track team in the state..............to bad the sport was basketball.:lol:

I know at Holmes it's mandatory that you be clean shaven and for the guys who have longer hair, it be braided.

 

Side burns also can't be below the bottom of the ear lobe.

I am 100% in favor of the clean shaven/short hair/well dressed rule/theory. Imo it reflects on your school and community in how you look and conduct yourselves, especially on the road. I do know that Marvin Meridith - Hall of Fame Russell basketball coach had his teams in blazers/ties and clean shaven at all times.

My high school coach had a first class, old fashioned style when it came to how you looked. For four years we had to have short hair, no facial hair, no piercings, and we had to have our shirts tucked in. We had to arrive and leave home games wearing a shirt and tie. Not to mention we had to say "yes sir" and no sir" everytime we were spoken to.

 

I played from 2002-2005.

See, that is the way it was when I played as well. Now you see beards, goatees, ear rings, and I think it is a bad reflection on the school.

Coach Dane Damron at Boyd was relatively strict on the hair and tucked in shirt deal at Boyd during the first couple months of school, he eventually gave in and slacked off. I will say that I cant think of any Boyd Baseball players under the Hamilton era sporting the shaggy look, and I know for a fact due to consequences I myself faced, you were never to wear your Boyd baseball hat backwards ever. On or off the field.

Sure I did .....but who is going to say something to a Farmer type player....nobody. My point was I think it has gotten to laxed these days.

So, if you're a good enough player, facial hair is okay? :confused: Nothing like a double standard to disipline a team.

 

If you have a problem with facial hair on a player then you should have a problem with Farmer and Bobby Keith for letting him do it. If you think it's okay for them, then it's okay for everyone else.

I had a mullet in high school and my coach hated it but never made me cut it. It was the 80's...what can I say.
