I would love to see Hurely, but I think Scott Drew will be a fantastic hire as well. I like Drew better than Donovan. Donovan has 0 recruiting connections with this era of HS/College Athletes. With the current landscape of what have you done for me lately that is worrisome. Hopefuly by Friday we our guy!

Arkansas is a good job, but it's not in the same strotosphere as UK in prestige. I would say this is a big shot to Cal's ego having to make this move.

Correct, noone is sitting on their hands right now. When Cal was hired, Mike Pratt and company helpe broker the deal. Who is out there with connections to help possible broker a deal?

Only thing that UK could counter would have been NIL and that is on Cal for ruining his relationships with top boosters. You can't blame Mitch for that.

Surely there are some big guarantees of carryover? Also with NIL, are players allowed to sign contracts with companies/corporations or is it all "per appearance"? Maybe being professional allows them to sign multi year deals with these companies.

I also think as a competitor, you want the next big challenge, which is obviously playing professionally.

Maybe they don't like "going to class" or being in the fish bowls of college campuses?

A "big" reason for the firing of Jaggers to some LC folks was the fact he "went to the beach" during fall break. Now LC fans are applauding buying out of a contract to play a lesser opponent...that doesn't add up?

Go ahead and hire Huggins...chalk the last 4 years of Cal as the Meh time period and let's move on in 2-3 years when there is a better batch of coaches.

You have to love coaches who "Own it"...he owned the floor, he owned the fact he was 3rd choice (probably lower)...he owned the energy. It looks U of L got what they needed with a shot of energy.

I totally agree with this. Call me crazy but after a couple of Shep's bigger games early on...I felt animosity/freeze from Waggener...I didn't feel that at the end at all...But I am sure there could have been some jealousy there. That is just human nature. I do feel Cal does a good job managing these things on year in year out basis.

He was never as explosive as I thought he would be, even before his injury. I expected him to be more like Dillingham from an athleticism standpoint.

Would you have an East and West Boyle Co? If they consolidated and had 2 schools, the county would have to be split up evenly. You couldn't just keep Danville HS in it's current role.

I agree with the potential...but right now he is a Briscoe player that doesn't finish quite as strong! I will say that I think Waggener suffered from some confidence issues along with Edwards...this is where Cal's saying "UK isn't for everyone comes into play". I think we UK fans with all our passion can "Eat our Own". I think we saw that pressure in the tourny with Sheppard who in theory could go down as one of if not the most popular native son! Social media has made these 18-19 year olds susceptible to constant critism, praise, etc...I can only imagine how many notifications and messages these kids get in a days time.

Wagener reminds me of a poor mans Isiaha Briscoe. He is quick but not elite, he jumps decent he is strong but not ultra athletic and his shot is inconsistent at best. He isn't quite as big as Briscoe, however you can see where he dominated HS kids his age and why folks thought he was as good as he was advertised. I am just not sure the overal skill set is truly there.

I know that players make mistakes and we went for pump fakes all night. The lack of timeout is a coaching error. I can tell you another good call by Oakland coach. They made a basket with 4 minutes and change and he immediately calls a timeout. With the extended TO times in the NCAA, they then picked up the under 4 timeout about 30 seconds or so of gametime later. This was 5/6 minutes of rest his guys got, going into the most crucial time of the game. He was thinking ahead and prepared to call that timeout. Cal wasn't.

He should have called TO after the Dillingham 3 pointer to cut to 1 with 1:08 left. Precious time and a poorer defensive squad were left on the court. We hit a point mid way through 2nd half when we panicked and jacked up quick 3's with no ball movement or penetration. We allowed them to walk the ball up the court and dictate tempo with never going to any kind of pressure. He never tried Edwards (Thierro got hurt) on the shooter to see if added length affected him. He didn't hedge out/double the shooter and make the screener roll and beat them. I only watched the game once, but these stick out with me.
