I think there will probably be even more parity in the upcoming year than this year. Obviously, with as much talent as the 12th is losing to graduation, there is a lot of room for players to step up. To me, how players make a jump/improve from one year to the next is one of the most exciting things about high school basketball. Wayne's core seniors-to-be have played together since grade school. I'm hearing that Korbyn Edwards and Ryder Bell are healing great. Edwards and Bell are both hard-nosed guys that know how to compete. Simply HAVE to get Edwards through football and Bell through XC with no injuries. Brice Lafevers will be undersized down low as far as height but he is football strong and can move people around. He tends to fall in love with the perimeter game if he hits a couple outside shots which really isn't his strong suit. Mostly following Wayne, of course I'm biased, but Rylan Morgan could probably be in the discussion for most improved player in the 12th region this year. Can finish left or right, not prone to turnovers and defends pretty well. He needs to be more consistent from beyond the arc for his senior year. It will be interesting to see what Parmley does at point with a 3yr starter in Edwards coming back and a 6'3"-4" kid that fell into the role pretty well while Edwards was out. Brody Askins will be another senior but he saw limited time in varsity. Ultimate "team" guy. Landon Fields is listed on the roster as a FR but if I'm not mistaken, he will be a senior as well. Big football body that saw limited time in JV. Juniors to be Cade Sharp, Dawson Crouch and Grayson Simmons could each step-up next year with strong work in the off season. Sharp can get hot from 3 at times and got some dunks down in some JV games. Crouch is about 6'6" and is a lefty and moves well. Can dunk with ease. He seems to just need some more confidence and more aggressiveness. Could he help fill the Farmer void? Simmons is another big football kid that sometimes looks like a bull in a china shop but he's tough. Sophomore to be Kooper Gehring had a solid year starting most games. Smart player that can fill it up when he gets hot and often times had the task of guarding the other team's best guard. Needs to continue to get stronger. Tate Bertram saw limited varsity time but had a very good JV year. On the small side but can get to the basket and shoots the ball well. Teddy Simmons is also in this class and is just a tough hard-nosed kid that leaves it all on the floor. Really only saw JV time this year. I'm sure I left some players out and I don't know a whole lot about players in the classes below this class. The worst kept secret around Wayne County basketball the last few years was that Phillips was to go after the all-time scoring title and score over 3K points. (Personally, I think this was Woods' idea when Phillips was in grade school) There should be plenty of extra shots to go around next year. A lot of these guys I mentioned in this post should be licking their chops and working like crazy this off season.

Congrats to DCA. I know several people (casual fans) from Wayne were pulling for them just based on how they treated a special needs basketball team that had the floor between the JV and varsity game when they played at Wayne this season. Ateny was especially gracious to the players. A lot of people said at the beginning of the season that the 12th was wide open, and I think the season played out that way even though DCA won. DCA was very beatable, but they got it done...props to them.

Does an open job at Lincoln have the most ripple effect on the 12th?

Hats off to the Cougars. They had a good game plan and stuck with it without getting rattled. It was a classic game of one team playing loose with nothing to lose and the other team playing tighter and tighter as the game went on. Even though Wayne was up two at the half, I felt like they were in trouble when the teams came out of the locker room by the demeanor of the teams. My crew sitting around me felt the same way. Wayne looked like they were down 10. Wayne could never get into a flow in the 2nd half and that's a credit to SCC. This one will sting for a while but still proud of what Wayne accomplished this year. I've listened to 12th region sports some, read here and on other social media and sometimes I think people forget what all this team has endured this season. Obviously losing a teammate in Cayleb Rice, Korbyn Edwards blowing out his knee, Rylan Morgan missing 6 games with a broken wrist and trying to learn the PG position which is a tall order without missing games, Ryder Bell blowing out his knee again and Seth Farmer finishing the season with an injured left wrist. On top of that, in the back of their mind, they knew if they lost this game last night that the comments from people they know in real life, would start on social media as soon as the horn sounded. And the comments much like "Rodney Woods would've won this game!" did start before the players got out of the locker room. I'm not making excuses because all teams deal with injuries and the like, but this is quite a bit for just one season for a bunch of teenagers.

McCreary led Wayne most of the game last night and honestly deserved the win. Wayne ended up pulling it out by 4 points or so. Wade Davis gets every ounce of ability out of his guys and I'm not sure how they haven't won more games this season. I'm not sure Wayne would be able to beat them a 3rd time if they were to meet in the district championship at McCreary. As a Wayne fan, I wish I were as confident as se7ens but this could be a year where a team like Wayne gets upset in the first round of district and it wouldn't be that crazy.

I believe in the 48th, it's the team that won head to head in the last meeting. That would put Somerset Christian as the 4 seed no matter what happens between Wayne and McCreary tonight.

Farmer played against Corbin last night with a heavily taped left wrist/hand in a 3pt win. #20 for Corbin played a heck of a game. Kendall Phillips surpassed 3000 career points last night with a 37 point outing.

Great win. Clinton is a tough place to win during an average year and they are having a great year.

That report is pretty prominent right now but I haven't heard any confirmation. It happened in the 1st half and Farmer played the rest of the game but he did miss several free throws and was shooting in the high 80s before this game. Farmer was pushed in mid air hard enough, that his momentum pushed a Somerset player into the stage. That really stinks. Hopefully it's a quick thing and he's better soon with Clinton and Boyle looming at the end of the week.

Losing Ryder Bell again mid-season really made a short bench even shorter. #24 quietly stuffs the stat sheet and is a sneaky good rebounder for a pg. He had 9 rebounds against SW, 6 against NL and 7 last night. Not bad for 3 games in 4 days. Gehring being "on" helped last night too. He was 4-5 from 3 after being 1-8 against NL.

Should be a dandy between Wayne and Somerset tonight. Wayne went into Pulaski last night and got the win 63-44 in a physical game. Pulaski had an 11 game win streak in the series. Two teams coming off solid wins with maybe some tired legs and minds. Should be great prep for post season play.
