  1. I know a coach in Wayne County that is currently not coaching. His son was also just fired as Wayne's soccer coach after leading them to their first district championship in history and also from his job at the middle school. Possible scenarios are swirling down at Wayne right now.
  2. I believe there was so much backlash with the initial press release (that made no sense) about Woods that central office wanted to make sure they covered this one and went overboard. By a lot....
  3. It's official. Jarrad Parmley. https://www3.wayne.kyschools.us/view-all-news/news-details/~board/wayne-county-schools/post/wayne-county-schools-hire-high-school-basketball-coach
  4. There are a lot of rumors flying down in Wayne County right now. Parmley is the most prominent one. There is another rumor that would shock the 12th region but it just doesn't hold water in my opinion. Parmley does have experience as an assistant coach with Monticello which consolidated with Wayne about 10 years ago. Parmley also started Kentucky Premier AAU with another person and coached girls in that organization for a few years. I believe he sold his part of KP a couple years ago and started MaxRPM Elite. Wayne players are familiar with him from camps and such that he has put on. Some players even have individual workouts with him on a fairly regular basis. Whoever is named coach, their first order of business is trying to keep the roster intact. Second order of business is building a quality staff.
  5. Spoke with someone in Wayne this morning that is pretty close to the situation and is pretty level headed who has a much different take on the narrative that is out there on the news outlets and twitter. They speculated about a lot of things but these stood out to me. I'm just relaying info, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with any of it. He said the situation was handled about as poorly as it could be from the administration's stand point. It was as crooked as it could be in how Neal was put in the super's chair first of all. Then to have a staffer go to Woods' house to fire him was cowardly at the very least. No one at central office or the high school knew Woods was being fired until they started getting calls, texts and emails. Releasing a press release that made absolutely no sense just added fuel to the fire and put staffers in a very bad spot. I think every one can agree on this. That being said... Woods has a 60% (183-124) winning % over the last 10 years. 55% over the last 5 years. Wayne hasn't beat Pulaski (a rival) in those 10 years. Woods has a haircut policy that he goes over every year in a 3 hour meeting. There is a D1 running back who is also a very good basketball player that could not play for Woods just a few seasons ago because he would not cut his hair short enough or let it return to it's natural color. His hair looked just like any average African American that you see on any basketball team in America. He's a great kid to boot and has been very successful in college. The community absolutely loves this kid and would have liked to have seen him on the court. He apparently had a monster summer ball season with the team when the haircut policy is not in affect. Wayne consistently has to pull up 7th and 8th graders to complete the roster for Varsity and JV despite having a student body of around 1,000 kids. Older kids get "run off" before they mature and have a chance to contribute. Wayne's losses this year and past years can be attributed to the fact that they just aren't as physical as the other teams. Also, Wayne is an easy scout for other teams in the region. Mandatory practice on Christmas night of this season. The district wanted no students on campus on Christmas day or night. As I said, I'm just relaying info. I chose not to relay some of the wilder speculation about the program and it's inner workings.
  6. Dumphord has a good relationship with the FB coach and is popular among his teammates. He has some looks from D1 colleges and has an amazing running back at Eastern that I'm sure is promoting him every chance he gets. He also has a good support system in Wayne County. I can't see him or any of his family picking up and moving to Corbin or Boyle. He also has family in Paris I think.
  7. Word is that Austin Shearer is not on the Super's good list either. Shearer was at some of the board meetings leading up to the hiring of Neal. Shearer is also very loyal to Woods. The rumor is that the hire was decided before the firing took place and the person is currently in the district. He's never coached a high school boys game. The scary thing is every rumor that had been floated has come true with this administration so far.
  8. Job is posted. Wayne There are a lot of rumors flying around right now. If everyone stays put is a very valid IF.
  9. My understanding is that pink slips used to be common for non-tenured teachers at Wayne much like other districts. They kind of got away from pink slips under Roberts but Neal brought them back. I'm not sure if that is completely accurate or not but it came from a retired Wayne teacher.
  10. Neal was in the running for superintendent 10 years ago and Woods' wife, Cynthia, was on that screening committee. Neal was not hired, Wayne Roberts was. The plan was set in motion then to flip the board, fire Roberts and hire Neal. It took 10 years but it they did it. Roberts' contract was not renewed last summer much to the disappointment to everyone in the community. Apparently, there were other disagreements over the years as well.
  11. I was at that game and I'm 99% sure I know which parents/family you are referring to. They are good people that fully support Woods and staff. They are guilty of sometimes vocalizing what they should probably keep to themselves but they support the team in a number of ways. A person can be critical of in game decisions but still fully support a program. I have seen some posts on social media blaming disgruntled parents/family and I can say with 100% confidence that this is simply not the case in this situation. The overwhelming sentiment among the players is that next year they had a real shot at winning region and now that's been ripped from them.
  12. The Woods rumor has been rumored all season in Wayne County circles. It's not voluntary. Wayne recently hired a new superintendent after the other one was forced out. He was not on the list given by the superintendent screening committee and it was all suspicious in how it went down. If true, it was a superintendent decision and not a principal or AD decision.
  13. The 12th Region Sports video shows it best. Dut got him with the lower body before Dumphord even landed and was moving towards Dumphord instead of straight up. Dumphord did kind of kick his legs forward but it didn't seem he was trying to do it to draw a foul. More like he was trying to get a shot off over a good defender and getting as high as he could. Like I said, Wayne shouldn't have let it get to that point. To the non biased observer, it's probably a good no call. Honestly, Dumphord might have gotten away with a push off before the shot.
  14. I said from the beginning of the year that I thought Wayne was a year away. I thought Wayne hurt themselves with some poor shot selections and inconsistency down the stretch while Boyd made some tough ones for DCA. I heard grumblings in the stands last night that Dumphord got fouled on the last shot in regulation and I think maybe he did, but honestly Wayne shouldn't have let it get to that point. It can be hard to get that call to end a region game. I think this game was closer to how these teams really match up as opposed to the game three weeks ago. Farmer getting hurt in that first quarter of the regular season game made him ineffective (props to him playing through a broken thumb) for that game and threw off the whole flow for Wayne. I honestly think if you play last night's game 10 times, they probably split the series. Wayne losing Kayden Phillips will hurt for sure, but I really like the Bell kid coming off the bench. Kid can play and will be a sophomore next year and should fill that starting spot in an impactful way. The other kid off the bench for Wayne has shown some flashes this year and plays solid basketball when he gets in so Wayne should be in the mix again next year since they return everyone else.
  15. Farmer taped up last night and played. The injury is on his shooting hand but he logged several minutes. I'm not sure about the junior's role but the freshman came off the bench for Farmer for most of his minutes. He's also a football player that doesn't care to bang down low.
