No question that that is watered down. 12 teams in a division with only 1 win to reach the final game. That is obviously the extreme from what Ky is talking about.

I still don't see how we can compare the football playoffs with the sweet sixteen in basketball. As some have said it is much easier for a A or AA team to put a highly competitive team on the floor that could vie for a state tournament. But for a A or AA class team in football would be near impossible to compete with the powerful AAAA schools.

Do I like the idea of six classes? No. Does a 5 or 6 class system 'water' down the playoff system? Maybe or maybe not depending, I believe on the sucsess of the program that you back. Would this new system be beneficial to the state of Kentucky football? I think that it could. I think that your viewpoint on this is slightly exaggerated. If the classes were to be broken down to 35 teams per class then it is still an accomplishment to win which is a little bit different than a 7th place finish. However I do believe that a breakdown into 5 classes would bring in a little more equity of numbers amongst the schools and would allow more schools to have and extended season. This is why I believe that in college those colleges that go to bowl games are better year in and year out because of the extended practice time for its players between the end of the season and the bowl game. I think that the same would be true for high school football programs here. More schools would benefit than not.

I remember a couple of years ago after we lost Tyler Baldridge and there was uncertainty of who would be playing quarterback. A lot of people were worried about that, but a player who had qb'd his class thru middle school and jv won the starting position. Ian Holbrook really stepped it up in the off season and took the reins of the program. Now we are in the same position. Ian has had a great career at Ashland and people are worried about replacing him. He will be missed but somebody, whether it's McDavid or Mahan or somebody else, will step up this winter and next spring and will be able to get the job done next fall. And the Tomcats will carry on successfully.

I believe they have been divided into small and large school teams for some time now.

I will admit that the So Eastern teams (3A) have pretty much had their way with the Eastern Ky teams, but as a whole all have faired poorly when it comes down to winning the state title.

It may not be all about money, but don't think that is does't play a significant part in making decisions like this one.

I think as a whole the state of Ky high school football would see an improvement with the change to six classes although personally I would rather see 5. But the more teams that can play longer will benefit all, even if it is considered to be watered down.

I have heard that we will scrimmage Ironton next year. And we will also see them on our schedule the year after.

I think that's great of Ian to still take pride in this program. It is individuals like that, that has made this program so great over the years. Time and the pain of Friday's loss will pass and come next August this returning group of players along with the incoming class will keep this program at the top. :thumb: :thumb:

But unfortunately, I think what everybody on here is forgetting is that with 4 teams making the playoffs means more money for the members. Even in high school sports it will come down to money. :irked:

Well I'm not sure that theory applies to 3A. Who was the last Southeast Ky and last Eastern Ky team to win a state championship and when was it?

And he did a fine job there as I think back.

Drew could be a big playmaker, but if he is to be like Ian he will need several playmaking receivers like this year. And we lose alot at that position this year.

Right now you have 8 very solid teams.... and all can claim to that #1 spot. But in about 3 weeks we will have undisputable evidence who the #1 and #2 teams are.

I think that 6 classes would dillute the pool, but it also might give those weaker schools an extra week to practice thereby possibly helping them in the future.
