Not to be buttin' into your thread, but where's the articulate and beautiful (when you peel the cobwebs away) Aunt Bea this year? I want to buy the lovely old hag an Ensure when you come to Paintsville this fall. If she's done passed on, could you do the Weekend At Bernie's thing?

That's what I'm talking about, Dino. These kids believe, and they have tons of talent too. Regardless of what we or anyone on here thinks, they think they're going to be state champs. If they believe that, I'm on board too, and while the odds are heavily stacked against them, look at how long it took Belfry, from old coach Roddy until just a few years ago, to actually win one. Belfry football has been East Kentucky's version of Friday Night Lights for several decades, and I know for a fact that all those old timers lived the delusion that they would be state champs each and every year, until it finally happened. I think this is the most talented, versatile team that Central has ever put on the field. I think Matney believes that too, but regardless, there's no harm in vocalizing the same goal that the kids end practice with every day.

Central fans (of all people), get real. We are real, so please, enough of this nonsense and appeasment. I don't know about all the hyperbole, but if Belfry was just experimenting and practicing, they better go back to the drawing board. I could have just been seeing things, or just been assuming too much, but I could have sworn that Belfry lined their starters up. Then I was pretty sure I saw Central stomp the daylights out of whoever was wearing the red jerseys, and was pretty sure I saw about 500 Belfry fans across the way mumbing back and forth, and a couple times even halfway standing up, only to sit right back down again. Hell, we deserve this. I didn't realize that all those people came out to watch the second string get beat up like that. The weird thing was that the Belfry players on the sidelines were smaller (much smaller) than the players they practiced for 2 hours, as anyone who was there knows. Those real starters (small, but quick I suppose) probably could've used a few snaps, rather than letting those big second stringers play the whole varsity practice. Here's what I know: whoever was representing Belfry, well, they received a good practice..."schooled", as it were (nice new school too...beautiful..folks, if you haven't seen it, just go). Invite us back up in October for a practice and we'll do it again. Eagles, stay focused on your "practice" against Shelby Valley Friday night, and if you decide to make it a game instead of a practice, we fans will appreciate it. Woo Hoo!! Not much to brag about on this side of the creek for the last 40 years, at least consistently, until now. You have the opportunity to be the best team ever to play for Johnson Central, and you will as long as you realize your best can always get better. Listen to your wonderful coach, stay focused on your state championship, and work your butts a little harder each and every week. You listening Pook? By the way, you scrimmaged a great 2A school (really great...just playing with you guys) who won't play you in a real regular season game, for whatever reason. Maybe next year? I know for a fact, its not us. Regardless, the competition is gonna get alot tougher, knockin' heads with the big boys every week. This is 3A, a big step up, working your way through the Ashlands, and Bell Counties, and Rockcastles. Its your year. You have about 15 more butts to kick, and then you'll have something no football team in this county has ever experienced. That little mental break, feelin' all good about yourselves last year, cost you dearly. You have a little "unfinished business". They can bring the game, you bring the pain!

Yes, they do...Shelby Valley at JC. I think it starts around 7.

I don't believe he played any offense during the varsity scrimmage, but he played safety and maybe a little corner, and made a couple nice tackles. He played QB when the second string offense scrimmaged.

The only great season Music ever had. The point was that Central rarely had a good team in the past 37 years or so. Maybe 4 playoff appearances, and 1 or 2 playoff wins. With respect to the approach to scrimmages, I couldn't agree more, except that I do think teams try to win them. Both ran very basic, straight-forward offenses though. Nothing fancy either way tonight.

Ran some shotgun, and quite a bit of running out of the pocket and throwing, which was nice to see. Shawn Grim had a couple long runs and a long reception, and Chase Richardson scored the first TD on about a 40 yard run. JK spread the ball real well. Tommy Taylor had his usual good game on the receiving end, and the Dials kid had several catches. Belfry did a good job of stuffing the run a few times, but the passing game kept them off balance all night, which opened up the run. Belfry in fact played their starters (or at least the same players) basically the whole time, until the second game which consisted of the JV for the most part. Both teams substituted very little the first couple hours.

Absolutely right. Just to clarify though, JC rarely has a good team (excepting the last 2 years) and Belfry won the scrimmage, 14-7 I believe, David Jones' senior year.

I agree with both of you guys, and there's little question that Belfry will once again be a major force in 2A. My first time to the new stadium, and its second to none I've seen. Just a scrimmage, but the fact that Central didn't play exceptionally well (alot of confusion on defense at times) made it all the more impressive. Both teams are better than what they showed. The bottom line was that Belfry never could make the big play and Central did several times.

The Golden Eagles dominated Belfry at Belfry. It would have been much worse, but an interception and 2 fumble recoveries by Central didn't change the possession in the 10 play format. JK Ratliff threw the ball all over the field with alot of zip and precision, and the running game was strong too. Its early, but the team is much more balanced than last year, and on this night, they took the 2-time defending 2A state champs to the woodshed.

Johnson Central will be better than last year, even with an injury or two. Ashland's always tough. Way too early, but fun to talk about because this will be a great rivalry for years to come with the 2007 alignment.

Four of their starters were seniors, right? They lose Leslie, who was the guy who kept that team winning in my opinion with all his blocks and rebounds.

Valley's played like 10 guys already.

Its not even close. If The David School could get all its players to school on the same day, I think they could take this region.

Does anyone know how many Mason County brings back this year? If I'm not mistaken, their home schedule includes Johnson Central, Ashland, and Lawrence this year. They gave Rockcastle a serious scare in the playoffs, so if they return any talent, they'll be tough to beat.

JC is the new force in the district. I think its a smart move by him. Im sure he will be welcomed.

Very nice game. The star for Paintsville was definately Shane Grimm, hitting 3's when they were desperately needed. Tyler Whitaker and Kyle Rice Were two other stand outs in this game. Go Eagles!

Hampton was actually playing DE and Shawn Grimm was playing CB near the end of the season.
