  1. Ashland 33, Rockcastle 2. Ashland in the regional championship again, hosting Madison Southern.
  2. Generally, these small-town newspapers will hire anyone who can throw a few sentences together, and who will work for minimum wage. Their publishers aren't much smarter, but they're the ones who make all the money. I don't know these kids, but would bet neither have families who spend advertising dollars at the News-Express. Although it would put a few more dollars in the publisher's pocket short term, the community should buy an ad urging readers to read the Williamson Daily or Big Sandy News. And what was the point? Obviously the quarterback situation was decided in the second half of the Paintsville game.
  3. Good luck (I think I speak for all Golden Eagle fans) to South Laurel too. I was being a little fecesious, but I realize SL was descimated by injuries through the season. If healthy, and if they get that passing game going (and assuming they've settled on a quarterback), they are a very good team.
  4. Nope, but understand where you're coming from. Thanks for teaching a previously JV secondary what it took to defend the pass. I've still got my Cumberland Bowl program. So sorry SL didn't come anywhere close to meeting it expectations. This team was supposed to be better than your state finalists a few years ago. 18 seniors, and all. Good luck in the playoffs.
  5. Just saw Rider once, last year. Quick as a cat to hit the hole, with shifty moves, but went down way too easy when he was hit. Granted, he's small, but little guys especially have to stay up and keep moving. Nice back though.
  6. Blake Johnson and Shawn Grimm are another two that contribute alot to the JC offense, but not as much as Music.
  7. Never had the pleasure of seeing this kid play, but he's obviously a very talented player and probably deserves mention in the top 5. Knott played a decent schedule, so he accumulated his season averages against teams that were for the most party as good or better than his own. His yards per carry suggest he got the ball more than all the rest of the offense combined, and to last the entire season the way he did, without serious injury, is impressive.
  8. Shaun Music, QB, Johnson Central. Heart and soul of the team. Excellent option QB, average passer, but without him, just like last year, it would take Central several weeks to recover. Lots of heart too, after coming back from a gruesome injury that would have ended most HS players' careers. Excellent defensive player too. Not under-rated by his team. But in the region, Ron Blume gets all the attention.
  9. I haven't seen many, but the kid from Ashland throws a real nice pass. He has one excellent receiver, which helps alot. Not taking anything away from the Ashland QB, but without his acrobatic go-to guy, we probably wouldn't even be talking about him. But then again, I've never seen a great QB who didn't have a player or two who could make great catches.
  10. Recruiting is cheating, legal or not. Not to worry private schools. It'll never be implemented.
