Colonel Henderson

This is what so many of us have wanted. Right now though, we are looking at tons of inexperience. Add the fact Duffer did not use his bench much, our coach has his hands full. This coach seems to be a players coach, but he still has that edge you like to see.

Woods, they did have a very good o-line, but in no way were any of their backs close to Hall. That is why he ran 30+ against us. Take him out of the picture, they would not have moved the ball at all.

I expect them to be good but... Nick Hall was their offense when they played better teams. You could flash any stat you want because we both know Seniors speed loads up stats against most west ky teams. I was at both Henderson games, and while I am sure the offense had other people playing well against other teams, Hall was it against the Cols. You guys have very good special teams play and defense(1st Henderson game), but you need a improved play calling and the QB spot period(2nd Henderson game). Henderson beat you guys by sitting on about two run plays.

We won 3 out of the last 5. Owensboro did about what Henderson did to other teams last year outside of Apollo (Evans. North?). Take out the 4th in the first meeting, Henderson was better or equal in both games. Although it will be hard to match what Duffer did in the region, we will be a completely different looking team with more size and speed in a couple of years. It might be a long season next year though.

Heck, there is something wrong with Henderson, but I will not go there. One area that I will write about is the divide here in this community. Some of us actually liked watching Duffy teams, but there have been a large number of folks who have been upset for a very long time. They are bitter and feel left out (I can understand that). However, some of them are still going at it (power struggle?). As far as football, I do believe next season will be a long season for whoever takes the job. The talent pool we have has been narrowed by Duffy, and their will many new faces the next couple of seasons. We are geared like a 1A school right now, and there are tons of problems that come with this situation just within football. Tom and Duffer could win with this framework, but now that they are gone and it being so late, this thing looks like a mess.

The next coach is going to have a mess on his hands. His first team will be the most inexperienced team in the state if he chooses to only play a few players both ways. 1) We graduated some good players. If the coach does not play many players both ways that would almost double the players we graduated because he will be replacing two positions for almost every player we lost. 2) If we have numbers around 60+, that will be an additional 20 or 30 guys without varsity experience.

If Trinity can spread Ryle out on defense with sweeps and the threat of the long ball, they will score some points on them. I do not think their defense can huddle a complete offensive attack. On defense, if Murray is stuffed a bit up the middle, he will take it to the outside where Trinity will have to keep him from squaring his shoulders. They open a lot of holes spreading you out left to right and then hitting you up the gut.

Coverdale never really had the monster lines Castle usually has while he was there, and after seeing that fit first hand, I think he took the wrong job. They had little talent and what he did have was more smashmouth geared. He could do well somewhere else where the fit and timing are better.

What about the KY/Tenn all star game? Hasn't Kentucky done better the last five years?

I will never cheer for the Rocks or X. They have won enough.

I would not have done that either, but you are kidding yourself if you think the teams we have beaten bad have not felt the same after a game. Ohio Co.? You should have heard what the Ohio fans were saying as I was leaving the game. Even some of our own fans were yelling to get the starters out of that game. A few of them were parents of subs.

We had 5 guys who could play at that level last night. I think if Duffer stays he should be made to have over 50 players on the team each of the next two years and 55 the thrid year. Ryle could have won by much much much more. It is stupid, if your goal is to compete with the big boys, to have the numbers we do. The heck with regional titles, we our a big school that should be bigger and faster. We have a goldmine of talent not playing. That said, I am not sure we will ever play at the highest level, but the Ryle game showed the gap is ridiculus. Overall, the actual on the field coaching this year was great, and our boys should never have made it as far as they did. I truely enjoyed watching them show their heart and desire. Ryle is a great team, and I hope they win it all. They need to watch the stuff after the play though. They can't do that next week.

Some Ryle fan asked me when our starters were coming out before the game. I told him that he was looking at the entire team. He did not believe me. That was both funny and sad.

We can beat western ky teams with those numbers, but not much past that deep in the playoffs. I can tell you Henderson has tons of speed and size walking the halls. Also, we always seem to have as many players on the freshman team as the varsity. Something will have to change.

I think it was Meade with 5 loses. We lost to Castle and Owensboro.

Did Boone County beat Ryle?

"I'll admit that Henderson has been a surprise, but some of the people up there insist on exaggerating it just a bit." We lost Fidler and LaMar and yes, almost if not all our lines, which were not great last year. We had to change our approach to offense. People may say that your Henderson so you reload, but Duffy uses a 2A sized pool of players in his coaching style. It is by far the best coaching job I have seen in years even wihtout overcoming issues off the field. That sounds crazy, but with the players he has had to work with, it is not crazy. As far as getting more kids out, I guess he did that to himself, but the coaching of these players is absolutly the best I have seen. Below average players are now good football players in the span of a year. Players are transforming in two or three games. Our team now would beat the heck out of our team 6 weeks ago. This team can adjust better than any team I have seen from week to week. Considering we play DC, Grayson, and Ohio there is no exaggerating what our record would have been. Those teams are so bad that 3 wins would happen no matter what. Its a work of art.

What is Ryle's record in final 4s and regional finals in recent years?

Jesse Gilham 255 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries, 6-6 PATs, punted at least once, one of Henderson's best defensive players, and played on every play of the game.
