Colonel Henderson

Here is one post I made. 5-11-07 "The next coach is going to have a mess on his hands. His first team will be the most inexperienced team in the state if he chooses to only play a few players both ways. 1) We graduated some good players. If the coach does not play many players both ways that would almost double the players we graduated because he will be replacing two positions for almost every player we lost. 2) If we have numbers around 60+, that will be an additional 20 or 30 guys without varsity experience."

I am not in the bag for any coach, but Wood, that was a great call. I want a coach who would do that. Our top back was cramping, and that play was a touchdown if the QB makes the play. Just a split second longer and it would have been 6. You have to look at the context. They started passing on us, and then a couple of secondary guys started cramping, and without RT in the game to run the ball our offense was not as good. I thought if North got the ball back they would score too. I like a coach with balls, and that will rub off on his players. Like you I thought North way way down. I think I will wait for next year to look at our coach, and if you recall I said before we even hired the coach that it would be a long road to build a large team in a system that was geared for 13 to 15 players.

I would not put us at fully back, but with as many players as we play, in a year or two we will be right there(just not sure). North is not as good as last year, and we are much better. This change in style and especially going from a program that played so few to a program that plays tons of players will not be done overnight. We are a bit better than I thought we would be at this point in the process. If we can win more, it will help bring out a few of those studs walking the hall. Great job team/coach. The game came down to the final 8 plays for North with around 1:24 left in the game. North as the game went on had found its passing attack, and was posed to score around the 20 yardline. They completed a 4th and 10 play to just get the first down around the ten(all very close plays), and after three plays, the teams found themselves again with a 4th down, 4th and goal this time around the 8. The final pass was knocked down in the endzone. Of those final eight plays, there were I think 5 plays that could have been caught if the balls had not been knocked down. We were inches away from losing with some key players cramping up, yet play after play our boys made the plays and many of them were in the endzone.

The only interesting thing for me about this game is 6 people actually voted in this poll for the Cols to win meanwhile fans on both sides are writing about food. The only thing to remember while in Henderson is not to drink the water. Poll: How many think Colt45 played for Rice (Reese)? A) He did, it was just a typo. B) He did not, the "I" in Rice is on the other side of the keyboard from the "E" and he hit the "I" key only once(ii). C) He did, he just spells as bad as Colonel Henderson. D) He did not, he is trying to improve his post count. Just joking Colt, what year did you play? I am also wondering what coach Reese is doing. Did his son go into coaching?

You can talk fire all you want, but from what I saw the first two games; there is just a huge gap in talent. In fact when I looked out on the field before both games, I was surprised we were as close as we were in either game and that is saying something. While we would be greatly improved with more developed talent like we should have with our feeder systems, this is also the down part of the talent cycle. It so hard to measure how good these guys would be in a program geared at getting better players on the field, but my eyes tell me that even if you take our current players with JV and a few years of development, they would not be very good by our standards. They would be better than what we are currently seeing for sure, but that is not where we are today. Heart is also hard to measure. Last week I thought we were going to lose by 50 when they came on the field because they had 6 speedy skill guys about 6"0 with muscles and moves, and their lines were very athletic and strong. In a way, saying we did not play with heart is almost funny because that is not the first or ninth thing I noticed. DC is a huge step down even if they are better from what we have seen of them in the past, so desire and all that stuff might matter this week. I remember being in the stands when we played one county school a few times, and thier teams usually played hard, and their fans kept telling their boys to play with fire and heart. They did. I left those games and on two different occasions when I over heard people complaining about the effort of their team when playing us within 40 was the result of great effort. We might have won those games by 60 or 70 if the players did not care. Talent is and will continue to be the issue this season. And while we can point at adjusting to a new offense or adding players like I have said, this team is just limited in what they can do. Three years from now will be a different story.

East you have read what I have said before. You should not get so upset. I have been saying what you just wrote before you said it. I also said it on a PM before the season. This observation was in terms of the DC/Henderson match-up. Or specifically responding to the "two up in competition" statement.

Last years Henderson team would beat our current Henderson team by 45 points.

Well, I think if the speed of Kenwood will eat us up. Sure, we have some fast guys, but I saw our defense last week bite on everything and they could not tackle. I think over the next few season we will improve more than almost any team in the state though. Starting late has a lot to do with it. But I think what I have been saying about having lots of senior starters who left two positions to fill and many returning starters leaving one position to fill, is a big problem. Our program has not been built to handle this many players the past decade. Notes: I was in shock when the offense was on the field and the coaches were working with our defense on the sidelines. That was something that I have not seen in years. North will be #1 or 2 in Evansville this season.

Henderson lost 14-13 to Caldwell. There will some growing pains this season. There are just too many new guys with our team. We are going from 13 or 14 players getting playing time to 30-33 and with subs rotating in. We have been in the gun on almost every play the last three seasons on offense, so we might have a little trouble scoring for a while. Our coach has a complete pass from me this year. However on the up side, we might improve more than most teams.

I was thinking more along the lines of the other three classes. Like how many seniors do we have?

He is a heck of a coach. When they are playing on Saturdays, it is worth the trip. Real good football. I think they play North on a Sat. this season.

I think it was Reitz that we played when I was younger where we had the lead and things seemed to be going right when suddenly the lights went out. It took forever to get them back on. I believe they ended up winning the game. I remember the game ending really late and our fans were mad.
