Owensboro Senior: Top 3 5A Contender

Featured Replies

Owensboro Senior will bring their guns cocked and loaded this year. With 20 seniors and a good part of them having varsity experience, they will lead the team in the right direction. With Neil Johnston and Blake Roberts leading the defense at linebackers, Josh Hayden and Wayne Duncan will hold the passing game to very little. They have Jermaine Dumas and Zac Dunehiy, and with these players they will once again be a strong defense. Look forward to the ofense of side of the ball beating teams up, they will have Austin Moss at Qb, which should give them the right leadership. They have their whole Ofensive line back intact with Dumas, Duneghiy, Rob Durham, Blake Hilliard and Ryan Smith. Basically they return the whjole offense except for Rb Nick Hall who rushed for 1700 yards a season ago, but will be quickly replaced by a committee of backs led by Johnston, Hayden, and Yorel Shemwell. They will more then make up for it. Also with returning recievers in Duncan, Zach Cannon and Josh Royal. All players mentioned are seniors and except for Shemwell. Look for this team to turn some heads for real and meet up with B.G. in the regional final, and moving on to play the Highland Bluebirds for the 5A state. Good Luck to all teams because the men will be seperated from the boys in 3 weeks!:fire:

I expect them to be good but...

Nick Hall was their offense when they played better teams. You could flash any stat you want because we both know Seniors speed loads up stats against most west ky teams. I was at both Henderson games, and while I am sure the offense had other people playing well against other teams, Hall was it against the Cols. You guys have very good special teams play and defense(1st Henderson game), but you need a improved play calling and the QB spot period(2nd Henderson game). Henderson beat you guys by sitting on about two run plays.

Pretty big talk from a poster whose team has to contend with Hopkinsville and Christian County in the same district. It should be one of the most competitive districts in the state.

Well, first of I have heard that OHS has a few key players not playing this year. I haven't confirmed for sure but if so it will hurt OHS's depth. Now that being said, I don't think there is a team on thier schedule that the Red Devils can't beat, but OHS will need to improve drastically on offense if they want to contend for the inagural 5A title. The QB play was too inconsistant and I think OHS need to open up the playcalling a little more. It has to be more than run left and run right. But I do look for Yorel Shemwell to fill in for graduated Nick Hall and not miss a beat. OHS does return all the o-line, but needs to replace some on the d-line. OHS has some good possesion recievers, but they need to see the ball a little more to make teams honest. Linebacker will be a strong point with Neil Johnston and Blake Roberts holding that down. OHS should also have a strong secondary with Josh Hayden and Wayne Duncan roaming around back there.

But no doubt OHS disrict is tough. Christian County, and Hopkinsville are no slouches, and then you got Bowling Green, and Warren Central in the other district. Then you got John Hardin also in the west and that alone makes me want to talk NO smack! I still think OHS has a good of a chance as any to make it to Papa Johns but I'm gonna see how the Red Devils look on the field before I get too confident.

:fire:

OHS shouldn't have any problems running the ball as their o-line is as good as anyone's. Hall was able to run wild because of the o-line. The problem is they have zero passing game. Unless they find a QB that can throw OHS will once again be one dimensional and not make it past the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs.

That said their defense will be as good as anyone in the west if not the state. They were solid last year and with the return of most of their D look out.

Well Henderson fan, they say one kid doesn't make much of a difference on a football team, but in Owensboro's case; it did last year in the second game against Henderson. The Johnston kid was out with a severe sprained ankle, the same kid that took over the game defensively at Henderson. I've been watching this kid since youth football. That's what he does, completely takes over games. And I'll let you in on something else: this kid CAN run the football. He runs a 45.4-40. The only reason he hasn't been running it is because, I would say, they have kids like Hall. But with no Hall there anymore, looks like it's Neil Johnston time now. My only concern is, as a Owensboro fan, him playing both ways is going to take alot away from his defense. There is no doubt in my mind that he is one of the best linebackers in the state. C.J. second team defense last year. What else can I say?

That's not fast at all. My grandmother could run a 40 quicker then that. :D

Y'know, come to think of it? I think my grandmother could run a 40 faster than that too. That really ain't that fast, is it? Owensboro is in trouble. lol

Woods, they did have a very good o-line, but in no way were any of their backs close to Hall. That is why he ran 30+ against us. Take him out of the picture, they would not have moved the ball at all.

Mine weighed 220 and drove a Mack Truck:D .

Colonel, now you can try pull this off with the other posters if you want, that's your business, but the bottom line is that Josh Hayden was hurt last year, that's why he didn't run the ball against Henderson. And the Johnston kid played strictly defense. And if you're a Henderson football fan, you should already know that. Both Johnston and Hayden run the football real well and they both run 4.5. Reminds me of a couple of your players last year. The tantum that you had in the back field.

I hear the kicking game may be solid with a pretty good freshman that kicks off fairly deep and has good range from field goal distance also.

What the heck are you taking about? Hayden had 3 att. for 1 yard the season before, and the season before that he had -2 yards. I know I saw him last year return one punt in one of those games for almost nothing. He had -4 against Mater Dei and 21 yards against O-Catholic. How the heck am I suppose to know how good he is when he has done very little as a running back? Results matter. You had so many games with 4 and 5 guys carring the ball, and most, but not all of the time, Hall was it. I am not talking about this season. I am just talking about what I saw on the field last season. And yes, I know Senior has fast players.

As far as this season, I think Owensboro will be very good. They have a lot of other parts that can beat you when their offense does not get the job done. I remember looking at the roster and seeing they had some good jrs last year. Senior took a huge step last season and looked to be a stronger team than years past where teams could muscle them around.
