Arrez Henderson will only be a serious contender if he can learn the guard spot. Right now he is living on the baseline and has no effective perimeter game. He become a more complete player offensively. He is a strong defender and rebounder. Again, he is a 6'1" forward.

qryche11, you are precisely right. I have been watching players in school and at our tourneys for years. I have been dead-on in most predictions for players when they reach 8th or 9th grade levels. Most college coaches ask two questions now: Can a kid play defense? And do they have the speed and size to play at a D1 level? Points per game has become a secondary issue. Out of curiosity, look at Pitino's current inbound class and tell me how many of those players average 30 per game in the their respective senior years. I think you will be a bit shocked.

I agree!!! Dan Penick has the height, agilities, and skills to play offense and DEFENSE at the next level in D1. You just cannot get that point across though. There is no such thing as a 6'2" and 6'3" forward in D1 play right now. However, you will hear lots of player being hyped as big-time college prospects and they just don't have the size or agilities to play at that level. Yes, players can dominate in the 15th and 16th region, young and early. The fact is, many people just do not understand that the level of defense in our region can cause the misconception that some players are better than those in tougher regions even if their stat lines are better. It is just a whole new level in other regions.

RaShawn Phillips is rated as Top 5 frosh. He will be good. Needs to learn to shoot away from the basket. Right now can only hit layups, but try stopping this bull from getting to the basket.

My gut feelings tell me this thread was started because the person heard the Owens got complimentary tickets to a UK game. "Token tickets" are often given to in-state players just to keep any pipelines open to potential recruits for the near-future and down the road it that players school or area. I follow state basketball closely and watch the recruiting trails. I can tell you about 20 to 25 in-state kids who have been invited to UK games just as Boyd was. But being invited to a game does not make a kid a "bona-fide recruit." It is though in its own a regard an accomplishment to even be considered for tickets to a game.

I tried to tell people that Oldham was over-rated due to their watered-down schedule. I bet Simon Kenton folks are feeling this one. Oldham is a sub-average team at this point and the loss to Grant County proves this. Congrats are in order for Grant County.

Fact...Doss is 3 - 2 in their past 5 games, losing to DeSales and Manual. They are not the favored to win the 6th region. That is still in PRP's hands. Doss plays inconsistant and does not have the depth it will need come tourney time to make a serious run. The win over John Hardin is a good win, but inconsistencies should resume again when playing regional foes. Welcome to the board.

ShooterX3, I agree with exactly. Anyone who say Van Hoose ain't a legit top player is out of their minds. He will be playing some where in D1 level hoops in the future.

Sounds like the 16th region is getting their fair share of respect and praise and that's good to see.

From what I gather from some folks is that there were some issues with player selection. Not going to go to deep with this subject. But I would like one explanation, how did three Trinity players make the All-Star roster last year when Trinity did not even get to the Sweet 16? I am not saying those players were not deserving, but there were 3/5th of the starters from a single high school team playing for the KY All-Stars.

Everyone would have to agree that Oldham is a "solid team." They have yet to play any teams in the Top 30 in Kentucky and they got blown out by one of the lowest teams in the 7th Region in Waggoner. Please explain how Oldham is considered a solid team so I can declare my 16th region a solid region.

Owens would not get the same numbers that Dunaway gets if Owens played for a top team with other talented players around him taking shots too and against the comp level that Dunaway plays against. In the 16th region average players and freshman can get big numbers. The freshman that play and start in the 16th would play frosh and JV ball in the 11th. That's a fact!

And Holmes beat the stuffing out of Ballard and Manual beat Holmes in the LIT.

On the positive side, Gary Forrest of Oldham County High will not be coaching it. Maybe this year, the rightful players will be selected without so much politics involved. Even if we are outmatched talent wise, let the players that deserve to play have their chance.

Great game with solid performances from both sides. Trah Moore led Manual in scoring and the freshman Jenkins had some big 3's in the clutch to help in this win. For Doss, Davin Anderson and Jeff Brooks were leaders. The game was back and forth and neither team could get a significant lead.

Mason County is very average. They have no bench and the starters are streaky. It will be 2 years before they have any legit chance at making noise in a Sweet 16 Tourney. For now, Scott County is legit and Mason is average.

Final Manual seems to be clicking and have two wins over number 18 Doss and number 10 Holmes in two days.
