Grant County upset Oldham County tonight 62-61 in double overtime. The game was never separated by more than 6 points at any time. Grant led by 3 at half and Oldham led by 1 after the 3rd quarter. With Oldham up by two with less than a minute to go Grant stole a pass at halfcourt and Boston Howe drove to the basket and got called for a charge on a terrible call. Grant's bench got a technical. Oldham made one of the free throws and then scored a basket to go up by five. That is when Howe took over the game. He hit a three to cut the lead to 2. After Oldham missed the front end of a one and one Howe drove the length of the court and hit a driving layup to tie the score and send it into overtime.

Howe then opened the 1st overtime with 4 straight points on contested 18' jumpers. Oldham responded with a three to cut it to one. AFter Grant's Tabor hit two free throws to expand the score to three, Oldham hit another three to tie. Both teams turned it over in the last 15 seconds with neither getting a shot.

In the 2nd overtime, Oldham went up by 4. Grant's Adam Riley hit a three to cut it to one. With less than 20 seconds to go Oldham missed two free throws. Howe drove the court and as he was doubled team he found Riley

for a layup and he was fouled with 3.6 seconds. Game over!

 

Howe led Grant with 22. Riley had 10. Tabor had 11. Kyle Mason came off the bench for 8 big points. Lucas Sharp played his best game since coming back from broken hand. John Livengood ran the point against pressure with only 3 turnovers. Oldham falls to 15-2.

I tried to tell people that Oldham was over-rated due to their watered-down schedule. I bet Simon Kenton folks are feeling this one. Oldham is a sub-average team at this point and the loss to Grant County proves this. Congrats are in order for Grant County.

They did have to travel to Grant so you have to take that into consideration while SK had to travel to OC for their game. SK and OC also played Friday night games so niether team would have had much time to recoup from their previous game. SK also played without one of their starters, sidelined for about a month now. These aren't excuses but they are potential factors. The SK/OC game actually meant nothing since they aren't in the same district. Also I'm sure GC is a little more familiar with OC since they've been in the same region for some time now, while SK has played a very limited 8th region schedule. I'm sure both teams will be in the region's final eight so we may get to see if SK can redeem themselves since that loss was so embarrassing.

Hey guys.. you forgot to mention that Oldham lost it's leading scorer minutes into the 1st quarter.. injury??.never returned...that didn't help their cause... Anybody know what happened?.

What are you talking about recoup is it not normal to play on Tuesday after a Friday night game travel or no travel. You are making it sound like the loss to Oldham was degrading to the Pioneers. With fifteen wins they have played some good basketball. I will say that SK schedule is better but still Oldham always plays good basketball. Should not be embarassed of the loss. Everyone thinks that Shelby is a lock in this region. I think if SK is healthy they can take them.

It is for Simon Kenton. Considering the 9th region tournament has never been at Henry County before. You are joking right.

If I recall correctly, crestwood is just down the way from Oldham High. And your name is "crestwoodknowitall". Shouldn't you "know what happen".

Before knocking Oldhams record SK is 4-5 against teams with winning records this year. They have won only once since the beginning of 2006 against a team with winning record- Central Hardin (11-8 1-2 in district). The remaining 10 wins this year are against teams with a combined 41-87 record and this does not include loss to Dixie who is 6-13. In the latest AP Poll Oldham was 15th in state. That is better than Holmes or CovCath. With all that being said I believe that SK and Oldham have a shot at beating Shelby in March if everything goes their way.
