  1. Does anyone know what the actual final score was? Hasn't been posted anywhere yet.
  2. Holmes returns a lot of very good players. I'd say those two are the top two teams in the 9th.
  3. It's nice to say that there's an emphasis on team basketball, and the game is usually played at a very solid level in this state, but the individual talent in this state is also not that strong, comparatively. Some of this has to do with the low population, and also the fact that the state is very fractured in terms of quality coaching and chances to develop players. The simple fact also is that there are fewer elite level athletes in this state than in bigger states. This shows in the lack of Kentucky-produced players who make an impact at the Division 1 and NBA levels.
  4. The last player to play his entire high school career in KY and be a McDonald's All-American was Jason Osborne of Male in 1993. It's tough to be a McDonald's All American if nobody outside your state sees you do much, so I doubt we'll have more than one a decade unless KY HS players get more national exposure.
  5. Scott Co. Soph G Bud Mackey ties it at 57 all with 2 FT's with 14 seconds left
  6. Just got called from someone at the game.He said this was the final.
  7. In the interest of fairness, the public high school in Lexington do not have much of an opportunity to develop their players, outside of AAU competition. The local middle school system plays 10 games, the high schools do not get to choose the coaches for their feeder programs, and the high schools often have their best incoming players coming from several different schools. If Lexington Catholic did not have the option to combine their top incoming middle schools and play a middle school schedule, their varsity program would suffer. The high school coaches have nothing to do with the lack of a strong feeder system, unless they chose to do away with the middle school system and form feeder teams.
  8. I don't think they are in the Lit Rankings either. Its because of the teams they have played since the 5/3rd tournamnet and the unimpressive outcomes. They won all those but some of the score are close. If they would of played a couple of top twenty teams in that span win or lose I believe they would of stayed in the rankings. Still a dangerous team. They finish with two tough games next week of which they will struggle with both of those teams but should win.
  9. I say Scott Co by 10 points. The reason being Scott Co's only real tough set back was at Bryan Station and they have been consistent most of the year. The Lex Cath and Henry Clay losses are just good rivalries that was on their home floors which both teams played well.
  10. It is for Simon Kenton. Considering the 9th region tournament has never been at Henry County before. You are joking right.
  11. This is just another example of how difficult it is to be thought of as an elite team when you play a very difficult schedule. Outside of the 7th and 11th regions, and to some extent the 6th, no region has more than 2-3 teams who are top 20 teams at any given time. This means that teams in these regions have several games against teams who are not by any means in the top 20 in the state, or so-called "gimme" games. Ranking teams in this region basically consists of taking their sample of 5-6 games against very strong teams, and evalutain the results. If this team is well-coached and motivated for these games, they will be ranked highly, and not penalized for playing less than their best against lesser teams and getting close wins. However, playing a schedule of 10-12 strong teams means more chances to be penalized if you have an off game. Rankings are pretty meaningless, then, since all teams have a different sample of games to evaluate. Who's to say that Henry Clay's loss to Bryan Station wasn't a better performance than Team A's 6 point win over a 2-10 teams?
  12. Jordan Hammonds and Trey Smith had nice offensive games, and Ty Proffit was very effectvie and hit some clutch shots despite foul trouble. OJ Mayo is a sensational player, but he's not the force of nature-type player that Lebron James was in high school. Bill Walker is an amazing dunker, but he had no blocked shots, and hit no field goals other than his 3 dunks. North College Hill was overwhelming early, jumping out to a 19-8 lead after 1 quarter, but they really suffered when their 6'11" Jr Keenan Ellis got in foul trouble. South Laurel played with much more energy, but just couldn;t quie pull out the victory.
  13. 30 all at the half. Proffit and Mayo both with three fouls. Bill Walker scoreless at the half.
  14. Whats up with that. Thats one big kid. I asked last night and he doesn't play football either. This kid is thick and seems to get up the floor well.
  15. Lafayette is having some consistency problems, but they are the real deal. They're very much a top 10 team wih their aggressive press, pushing the tempo on offense, and sheer skill of Pete Gifford and Tyler Wilkerson. They'll play any more games against op 20 teams this year, and it's a fair bet to say they'll win more than they lose.
  16. Don't forget, Mr. Basketball is voted on. Regardless of who the best player is, the winner is going to be the player who has the most voting support. Walt Allen of South Laurel has so much support because of his team's high profile. AJ Slaughter of Shelby will make a strong push, and I'd like to see Robert Buckner of Eastern get some strong consideration. Most of the other major contenders have not gotten out in the state and made statements to earn votes. Antonio Owens could get some support, but it'll be very hard to overtake Allen.
  17. Everyone seems to like to stir up the "running it up" debate everytime David School gets beat. It's awful hard for a good basketball team to not beat a terrible team badly.
  18. I'd focus less on top freshmen teams and more on freshmen classes. If a player is a difference maker as a freshman, he probably won't be playing his most extensive minutes on the freshman team. Louisville Central, Madison Central, Mason County, Manual, Dunbar, and Adair County have standout freshmen playing major JV and varsity minutes.
