mid season player rankings for 16th in state

Featured Replies

Just read a paid report of mid season players rankings for the top 100 players in the state, the 16th region had 4 players represented, 5 if you count Brett Miller. While this is just one groups opinion, it is interesting to note that Ashland is the only team with two players on there, Matt Thomas and Drew Mcdavid.

Also representing the 16th were Jonathan Van Hoose and Antonio Owens

Brett Miller was rated lower than the other 4 players listed, with rankings coming in as high as 16 and as low as 61, I personally think some other players like Kalen Jones and Blake Mcowan are good enough to be on there.

The pre-season report got a pretty good debate going last time

Its a slow rainy evening

Have at it

Well Thomas and McDavid are great high school players, but even Jordan and Pippen had a great supporting cast.

Sounds like the 16th region is getting their fair share of respect and praise and that's good to see.

correction, I misread, players from the 16th were rated from 16 to 70, not 61, out of 100 total players rated

players of all ages in the state

It is interesting to note that the three teams(Russell 9-8,Boyd Co. 11-7 and Ashland 6-11) represented by the 4 mentioned players have only a combined 26-26 record. And the team that has two individuals mentioned(Ashland )has the poorest record.

Records dont mean much this time of year due to the big difference in quality of schedule, Ashland has the worst record but also the toughest schedule, what do you think their record would be if they say, played Greenup County's schedule?

ShooterX3, I agree with exactly. Anyone who say Van Hoose ain't a legit top player is out of their minds. He will be playing some where in D1 level hoops in the future.

Shooter I agree to a point. But when you have 2 of the top 5 players in the region and your 3 region victories are Lewis (way Down this year),West Carter(Obviously drained from the efforts of the previous 2 nights) and an average Fleming team then something is wrong somewhere.Ashland lost in the region to Russell-I'll give you that one since VanHoose is ranked; lost to Boyd Co which has Owens and lost to Fairview which has no players ranked.Fairview also defeated Russell earlier this year(BTW Russell is only 3-5 inside the region).Morgan,Fairview and Elliott are all quality teams with no player rankings.VanHoose,Thomas,McDavid and Owens are all great players and deserve their rankings but I believe a team is much better off with balance.Does anyone on Russell,Ashland or Boyd avg. double figures other than those 4 that have been mentioned?

Teams with an overall balance in players' abilities and talents are much better competitors when game time rolls around. Maybe that is why Morgan County has no player listed in the top ranks. This team comes at you from all over the floor and there is not one true star player on it. I think that is why they win so many contests on the basketball floor; if you shut down one player, another will come at you in scoring and defense.

Balance is a great weapon, Russell routinely has 3 players in double figures almost every game, Scott Gill is averaging double figures, Austin Blair is just now recovering from mono and sprained ankles and will average double figures for the rest of the year, and Kasey Clark will probally average right at double figures for the rest of the year, Russell's record has been greatly impacted by football and injuries. Monitor their record from January on for a true barometer of their team. I think it is also fair to say that they have the best "quality win" of anyone in the region with their overtime victory over Fern Creek, who in turn beat Etown and was narrowly defeated by PRP :thumb:
