I think BravesAttack is on to something. Coach Hicks is originally from the Harlan area, eastern Kentucky. Eastern Kentucky does things differently than other areas of the state. Winning at sports, and specifically basketball, is what the coach is hired to do. They don't hire you to be the greatest teacher, they hire you to win. As long as you are winning, they would never address a deficiency in the classroom. Coach Hicks was winning at Grant. I don't think he could understand why they would be complaining about paperwork issues and attending teachers meetings. I don't think this makes either Coach Hicks or the Grant County administration wrong, it just makes them a bad fit. Hopefully, both parties have better fits now and the GC kids will prosper with a new coach who is hopefully committed to be there for awhile.

I think Tyler will be playing for a Hicks next year, either Jim Bob or Billy.

I don't know that grant is much different than any other district. Schools are different than they were 20 years ago. My district is guilty of many of the things you accuse Grant of doing. Our super also had his/her doctorate paid for by the board. I am aware of several districts doing this. I don't approve but it is fairly common. It is actually unusual for schools to give their athletic teams any money. Districts are required by law to pay salaries but after that they are not required to pay anything.

Forrest is done. He has told me he loves the freedom to do as he pleases. People that have not coached do not understand the time commitment.

Johnny is a good young coach. Personally, I don't think he is ready for Grant County.

Jason is a very good coach. I wish him well.

Montgomery has more talent in the system. There are also rumors of the Oldhams being moved to a Louisville region next realignment. That would effect the Oldham job.

I would agree Grant is definitely a contender. However, Grant is not clearly the favorite. All three Oldham schools will be good, Collins is still very good. I think Grant wins the 32nd District, however, they haven't beaten any of the big boys. All of their baskets come from outside, they need a post presence to be the favorite.

Jim Bob is not afraid to step on toes. However, the kids that stay with him usually love him and stand by him. I think Shelby Valley will tolerate him if he wins. My take on mountain schools is they want to win. If he wins, they will spoil him and adore him. If he loses, they will not hesitate to fire him. It has been well documented on BGP that he plays a soft schedule. He will be judged at SV based on end of year results, not his record. He better win the region in the next two years or he will be moving again.

Sad to see a coach leave a situation where his team is likely top 3 in the region. If Carr stays, they will be good. Without Carr, they will come back to the pack.

It might be a good time for Steve Simpson to go home. He went to state with south Oldham last year. He is eligible to retire, so he may want to go back to his roots. He would be my front runner. I think Plunkett will make a good varsity coach, but I don't know if GC gives him a shot when they can get an experienced coach.

I think you are viewing this from the perspective of a friend that is being left behind. I have no skin in this game. I am a casual acquaintance from afar. My perspective is different than yours. I simply believe the luster of what WV could have been for these kids are gone. They bought in to WV can win a championship. I believe Dave has worked tirelessly to help that process. If they stay at WV they can win an all A region, but may not be favored. The dream of the big region is gone. If they leave, there will be collateral damage and friends will have their feelings hurt. You sound like one of those friends. I would hope time will heal your wounds or else I would say your relationship is based on what he can do for you, not what is best for the Moeves family.

If Andre joins the coaching staff, the khsaa has generally allowed students to play where their father coaches.

Financial situations change, educational philosophies change, sports teams change. I have a sister that has moved about six times in the last five years. Not a single one of her moves makes sense to me, but they do to her. People move all over the US for whatever reason that is important to them. Just because these kids are good at sports, it does not mean they are moving solely because of sports. Others left a year ago and they stuck it out. I would say there are multiple factors.
