  1. Maybe so, but the problem is the child reads this forum as well.
  2. Guys I have never seen JBS play, but you are acting like a bunch of petty, confrontation children picking on them constantly on here. Maybe someone on here went to Alice Lloyd and got cut I dont know. First of all a 12 point loss to a good team when you lead at half is not a SPANKING. The Stepp kid is obviously pretty good as I see he averages about 25 per game. Laid 29 on a good Hazard team. Lay off the kid because he is just that a KID. I have been reading the other threads about JBS and find it disturbing. I dont agree with a weak schedule but someone has to play the weaker teams or they would have no games at all. I think if all you can do is be negative about JBS, then you shouldnt follow the posts. I am from Pikeville and we are weak but I dont bash them. I believe a stronger schedule does prepare you for tourney time but I dont believe in bashing everyone. I played against Ervin and Gary Stepp in High School and both were nice young men and great ball players.
  3. I agree a double elimination would favor the larger school. I would like for all sixteen teams to advance to a single elim tournament. The smaller schools would not have the pitching depth to come out of the losers bracket. The larger schools could have the depth. Good point Strike3.
  4. No doubt this is a momentum builder. I was referring to losses to Betsy Lane and East Ridge recently. Pikeville swept East Ridge so I know Paintsville obviously wasnt ready then. The District and Region are intense.
  5. I have heard others that use Neumann gloves like them as well. Dont they have like a rubber palm. My son uses the Turbo Slot batting gloves.
  6. One game does not constitute playing well as it takes about 4 out of 5 to win the region. This game is always played on great emotion and intensity. I think the region is wide open. Congrats to the Tigers but they have to maintain consistency that has been missing all year.
  7. Yes that is the team. He was having arm troubles during the month of June and July. He was awesome in the fall against 18 year old teams in Tennessee. Clay put it on that team if I remember right. They had a gritty bunch of players who were fun to watch.
  8. Simply put, I disagree and I will not post on this again. This is my opinion from some of the antics that I have witnessed. Stealing the other teams signs is bush and this is only one example.
  9. Dont know about top 20 but Phelps has a nice lefty who is the best freshman in the 15th Region in Dillon Stiltner. I have coached this age for 14 years and he is the best I have seen. Daniel Harmon from Pikeville will be a dandy as well.
  10. Wilson A2000 or A3000 is the only way to go. The Game hats are nice.
  11. I think Morehead still gives scholarships in Basketball and Baseball, just not Football. I am not sure but I think I am right.
  12. LB33 we can disagree on the main point here and be okay. That is what makes the forum interesting. Good luck this baseball season.
  13. You may take it personally but you need to chill out. I am from Pikeville and we were able this last year to compete on a state level. I have nothing but respect for LCA, I know that program and have become friends with Steve Bentley and have great admiration for him. I coach a summer ball team and take exception to your comments. We only play in the top tier tournaments we can find. I know LCA did the same. As a matter of fact, our last game for the 18 year old team in 2004 came against a kid by the name of Chaz Roe. For your information we beat them 1-0 on their home field. Only 2 teams beat him in Minor League Ball last year. That group of kids that played for me then was fearless. I am not taking anything away from Chaz, he was phenominal. That summer we played Harriison County, Lafayette, Christian Co./ Clarksville, TN combined, Dunbar, and PRP, our record was 8-5 againts those teams so dont dog our summer program. The year before we played in LCA's summer tournament. Our 15 year old team is playing in the Gameday Woodbat Classic in Owensboro, the 15u AAU world series in Kingsport, and a huge Tournament in Oakridge TN that has 15 states represented as of Feb 1 this coming summer. My goal is to make the kids understand we can play with anyone. Winning a weak summer league tourney is meaningless. Summer ball is about exposing kids to great competition to help get them better. I hope you fully understand where I am coming from. If you would look at the previous posts in the thread about Classes, I stated that I would like to see a champion of champions with the four class winners participating. Even LCA has an advantage over Pikeville, Beechwood(not Beachmont)and Heath due to the number of school-age kids with which to choose. Yes Pikeville was ranked and deservedly so last year, however those classes are rare in the mountains.
  14. I dont know anything about the other wins, but Pikeville is horrible. Good luck in the tournament.
  15. Congrats Tigers. That sounds like a real whipping. Dont count out the Eagles, these teams bring out the best of each other as evidenced by each winning on the opposing teams home floor. I heard Starnes on the radio last night and he apologized to the fans. He also praised Paintsville's effort and congratulated them. Sounds like a class guy to me.
  16. Beating a poor team like Pikeville does not contitute peaking at the right time. That is just showing up at the gym. I think in 2 years beating Pikeville may be a good thing but not this year. Good luck Tomcats! Not diminishing the win, but we are horrible. Congrats Seniors.
  17. Was Lex Catholic's Football Championship diminished because they were the 3A Champ? They seemed to be celebrating pretty hard in the Herald Leader. I dont think so. Also true Class A Schools like Pikeville and others only have 100 or so male athletes and we dont live in a town of 250,000 people. Their are 90,000 people in the county with 6 High Schools. Dont give me Diminished! Our talent pool is diminished. Paintsville winning it all in 1990 was a phenominal feat.
  18. Probably 8 are pitchers and of those only 3 are proven. The other 5 are potential pitchers.
  19. This would be another option that should take place regardless of the class system. That should be the reward for winning region at a minimum. It would only add one day to the tournament at Applebee's Park.
  20. Pikeville will have about 30 players in tryouts including 20 who were on the team last season. They will have about 10 trying out for 5 spots or so. This includes 8th graders.
  21. This has to be the biggest disappointment in the region. Most of these Juniors have played since the 8th grade and their doesnt seem to be enough basketballs to go around. Maybe a case of too much talent or too much ego on the players part. What a shame this could and should be a clear cut favorite to win the region.
