  1. 1. Pikeville( only losses in 15th, Paintsville, and LC without top pitchers) 2. Paintsville 3. Johnson Central 4. Lawrence County 5. Allen Central 6. Belfry 7. Sheldon Clark 8. Pike Central 9. Phelps 10. Betsy Layne
  2. Pikeville just came off of winning the Panther Classic and threw their number 6 or 7 against LC. LC is a good program with a great coach. Just dont make much of this game. Pikeville was FLAT. Good job Bulldogs.
  3. 1. Pikeville 2. Paintsville 3. Johnson Central 4. Belfry 5. Sheldon Clark 6. Allen Central 7. Lawrence County 8. Pike Central 9. Phelps 10. ???? I have seen them all but AC and LC and 1,2, & 3 are close with 4, 5, and 6 close to each other. I think the Top 3 as to what I have seen are right. Belfry with Chapman can beat them all.
  4. Pikeville will be playing during testing. This issue is a joke the importance of that testing is to get the teachers bonuses and nothing more. What do the children get out of it other than test exemptions from their regular studies if they do well. The whole process isnt for the kids. If the kids were thought of we would take the alternative test which is similar to the ACT test. Now they could convince me that was for the kids.
  5. Mtn I guess we have a different definition but lets leave it at that. Mtn I think I have met you before. Good luck and keep an eye on the Lex. programs for us. We may need a scouting report sometime. Let's Play Ball.
  6. RNC if you will look at an earlier post they have not lost to a Pike or Floyd team in that time, however the 57th has posted all the losses in the region to the Pikeville teams. The 57th and Pikeville kind of own the region right now and I dont see that changing anytime soon. Belfry however does have a solid young team right now, so that may change.
  7. Game, the KHSAA only goes back to 2001 so I dont know where to find information on the 98-99 teams. I think the two best teams in school history were 1999 and 2005. I would bet all the school records are from those two teams. The 98 and 99 teams are the ones I credit for building the huge interest their is in baseball at the school. I followed these two teams and it was my first experience with PHS baseball. The 04 and 05 teams just continued to build on those teams successes. We have probably 150-250 people attending our games now and their not all parents of current players. Lawson has done a tremendous job and puts a quality product on the field. I have seen most teams this year and expect him to be right in the thick of it during tourney time. Go Panthers.
  8. This would be a GREAT job for a deer hunting coach. LOL
  9. Mtn. you are taking this too serious. I will bet you that if the 15th had Tates Creek or any of the larger schools top 7, they would think they had 7 quality pitchers. Our Schools cant even find 7 throwers and if you played ball in the 15th you would know that. I didnt say they had 7 who could approach 90, I said I would bet they got several kids who could throw in the low 80's. I did not say Aces. I bold faced these to help you out and understand what I am saying. The 15th region has FIVE pitchers who can hit that number. Sit back and absorb what I am saying and read your own posts. This is not personal so quit acting like it is. If you disproved me it wouldnt be the first time it has happened, no cherry here.
  10. Not picking on the 15th. I am from the 15th and my son played at Pikeville. Last year 4 teams could compete anywhere. I dont think that is the case this year however. Pikeville played Tates Creek in 2002 and they did throw 5 pitchers who would compare with any of last years teams Number 2. You must realize their pitchers are pitchers only for the most part. Pikeville last year legitimately had 1 stud pitcher and two good pitchers who would have been in a group of 4 or 5 at a larger school. I will bet you Tates Creek has 6 kids who can throw low 80's this year and they are not fairing that well. I may be wrong but I will list 15th region pitchers who can hit 80-82 below: JC Justin Blanton(80-84), Matt Fyffe(80-84) Pikeville Huffman(85-88), Justin Anderson80-84) Belfry Aaron Chapman(85-88) I would venture to say that is it. If their are any more I would be interested in knowing. Only possiblities may be Grimm or Little. I see way to much 71-75 mph pitchers in the 15th each year. Mtn we dont have to agree, this is just my observation. Numbers at the bigger schools make this possible. Also kids play one sport only at larger schools, therefore working toward those goals. Nothing wrong with playing multiple sports as we have to share athletes in the smaller schools. I love baseball but from what I have seen so far this year, the quality is way down.
  11. Great weight room. I have never been more impressed with a high school coach in any sport than I am of Coach J. My son had him at a camp 6 years ago and I was impressed then, but now I see how he truly works hard to put Pikeville back on the State Football map. The kids are really buying into the system. Walk around Pikeville campus and you will see the individual work has paid off for the kids already. Everytime I am at school the weight room is full of football players. He is as approachable, hard working, and enthusiastic as anyone I have every been around. He is a great fit for this program and I hope he stays a long time. Keep up the hard work coach.
  12. Let me say I wasnt dogging Childers as he is the best hitter I have ever seen at Pikeville. But even you dont think he would have hit that high in some of the other regions do you. My point is stats accross areas of the state are meaningless. The 15th is so weak this year, I could hit 400. Chad was a special player and would have been so anywhere, but he didnt face the top notch pitching EVERY day that a Lex and Lou school does. The main difference in these areas is that their Number 7 pitcher will be as good as most 15th Region teams Number 2. Again Chad was a great hitter and by no means am I taking anything away from him. As for Chad's average, I was just going on memory. My bad. 460 or 480 are only 2 hits in 100 at bats. Either is impressive.
  13. South Floyd must be weak as ER is very young. Good Win Warriors!
  14. Buck's noggin is hollow. Find something a little more solid.
  15. I knew where you were coming from Firebird. No problem here. You know where I stand.
  16. Pikeville has not lost a game to a Pike or Floyd County School since at least 2001, their only losses have been to the 57th district. I knew that in 03,04, and 05 their were none. I checked KHSAA and their were none in 2001 either. Pretty good run.
  17. Firebird is right, we havent seen everyone yet. This is what I have seen so far. 1. Pikeville(very solid with good pitching) 2. Paintsville( very solid) 3. Johnson Central(havent seen) 4. Belfry( Chapman is for real, suspect pitching otherwise) 5. Lawrence County( Randy Keaton) 6. Sheldon Clark(very suspect) 7. Allen Central(no offense) 8. Phelps( with Stiltner on the hill they can compete) 9. Pike Central ( Disappointing) 10. No one else deserves a vote.
  18. Keep in mind it is way to early for stats to matter or for us to get excited about them. Tyler Turner is a very marginal hitter but I agree he can do it in the short term. Wait until mid may and restart this thread and I will tell you who can and cannot keep LEGITIMATE stats.
  19. This was a great game to watch and both teams had their chances to pull away. Typical Pikeville vs. Painstville game and I expect to see both again in the Regional. I think this quite possibly could be a preview of the Regional Final in May. Good luck to both squads. Go Panthers.
  20. Noone can legitimately hit that high for a season, a lot of coaches score reaching on error as a hit. It is impossible to hit that many balls in the hole. I am not saying this kid isnt doing it because for 20 at bats it is possible. But for 150 at bats it is impossible. I hope he stays hot. I am seeing this same thing at the college level, if they get on it is a hit. I as a coach would want to see accurate averages and the roe's factor into on base which is relevant as well. I had a Dad two years ago say his kid hit 500 plus. I know the kid if he played at Pikeville where the stats are accurate then he might have hit 200. I coached this kid in rec ball. Also playing at weak schools you will never see someones ace. Pikevilles all time leading hitter hit something like .469, his name was Chad Childers in 1999. Pikeville has had its share of success and that is phenominal considering he faced everyones ace. My point is even Chad wouldnt have hit as well if he played Louisville and Lexington schools everyday. Batting averages from different programs are not comparable.
  21. As Firebird said consistently in the 90's and occasionally in the 90's are different. My son said Tilford hit 90 a couple of times in the All A at Applebees and consistently in the 86-88 range there. Their gun is about 3 miles per hour slower than the JUGS guns I have seen. Chaz was phenominal when we saw him that fall. However a bunch of runts from Pike and Johnson County handed him a loss behind the pitching of Adam Blanton and some great defense, 2-1 final I believe.
  22. PCC has several seniors and juniors and should not be down. I wonder what the problem is? Possibly coaching, I dont know. This should be a year in which they can compete.
  23. Games are scheduled at 2 and 4 on Saturday. Championship may be Sun at 2.
  24. If this is true the coach should be fired. That is awful. Coaches son or not the rules should be the same.
