  1. SC had the best team in 2003, and got upset.
  2. My guess would be Painstville. They always seem to be a thorn in the side.
  3. Sad isnt it. Dorton and Virgie have the best junior high programs around. It is odd to me that most of Virgie's players dont finish high school. I know Logan Bryant, Justin Bryant, Elijah and Jonah Justice all went to Dorton.
  4. Glad to here he is pursuing his education. I wish him the best. :thumb:
  5. Mike, obviously knows baseball. Watch him coach and noone will dispute that. I was also told that he had his pitcher hit Spears, Pikeville's leadoff hitter, in the region last year to start the game. What he didnt know the kid was hit something like 18 times last year. His bp coach said he took pitches off the body in bp just to condition himself for it. However the strategy didnt work and it is not part of the game to do it on purpose. I hope he changes some of his philosophy and becomes the great coach he could be. A guy who played at Louisville, obviously knows baseball. I think his temperament has caused him some grief and I hope he gets that under control. I saw him argue with fans last year, he has to thicken his skin a little or people will use that against him.
  6. IT IS AMAZING THE TIMING OF ALL OF THIS. I GUESS SOMEONE CHECKED AFTER FOOTBALL SEASON AND THEY DIDNT MEET STANDARDS, HA, HA. I HOPE WE ONLY MISS A MONTH BECAUSE A SEASON WILL KILL US FINANCIALLY.
  7. WE ARE NOT UPSET AT THE FACILITY. JUST THE TIMING THAT BASEBALL ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE THE STEPCHILD WHO GETS LEFT OUT.
  8. Nooo, you will get run out of Pikeville. That is FOOTBALL time. Not that I dont like football, but this should be done June and July.
  9. Looks like another season messed up by the powers that be. These Seniors will probably lose 2 years playing on their home field. Not to mention the loss of revenue by the boosters for loss of concessions and possibly signage.
  10. I heard he may tryout at Morehead, he is not on their 2006 roster however.
  11. I was extremely proud of Jarrett and Howell who totally ignored the redicule their coach was giving them for going to greet the Pikeville Players. Class act on their part and then the team followed its leaders to shake hands.
  12. Firebird, I knew you would agree on Howell as you welcomed him last year with cheer. Lawson has been excellent with what he has done since becoming head coach. He is good with the players. They love playing for him. Baseball is a game the best team doesnt always win in a single elim tournament. That is why the Majors play a series. Lawson's record fairs favorably with anyone in the 15th. I love this game.
  13. Again Pikeville, Paintsville and JC along with Lawrence Co. and AC will be the class of the region. Pikeville is my pick due to pitching rotation at this point.
  14. They lost Steve Blevins, Sonny Minear, and Michael Compton as well as a kid who played some third and catcher for them. They will be young but are very well coached.
  15. Lawson is terrific, but I do expect and I think he expects them to miss a beat. I think by tourney time however he will have them playing well. That is a whole lot to replace, everything up the middle and especially Adams behind the plate. That along with 21 wins from senior pitching. Corners were lost as well. The entire senior class could be playing college ball and I know the replacements and they will not pick up where everything left off. I think Carter, Anderson and Huffman will make the best rotation in the region, I dont know where we will find Miller's innings out of the rest of them. One thing that will help is that Paintsville, Sheldon Clark and Johnson Central took a big hit as well. The loss of Jason Howell will be hard to replace as well. Back to coaches. 1. Lawson 2. Keeton 3. Pooh Hall I dont think anyone in the region warrants being mentioned with these three. I do however like the East Ridge Coach Justice and Mike Hall has done fair but no regional titles to his credit.
  16. Good list Strike3, we did a horseshow one year and raised around $3K. Any kind of dinner(ie soup and salad, spaghetti, etc) goes over pretty well. Program guides are a nice fundraiser as well.
  17. Signs, signs and more signs. We have sold 52 signs on our field for advertising at $250 per sign the first year and $150 renewal. This generates annually about $7,800.00 and our goal is to get 60 signs. PM me and I will give you ideas about the ham sale that BBF13 talked about. You can make $2,500 on the ham sales with minimal participation. I think that if everyone really tried that you could make $5,000. The hams are something that people are already buying anyway.
  18. I agree totally. This kid is awesome as a 12 year old. I saw him in the state tourney.
  19. Here's my list. 1 Pikeville 2 Johnson Central 3 Lawrence County 4 Painstville 5 Allen Central 6 Pike Central 7 Sheldon Clark 8 Prestonsburg 9 Phelps 10 Belfry
  20. You are correct Laney was the name. He was a nice player.
  21. Tim Hayes will be the best catcher in the 15th this year. I saw him this fall and he is a dandy. They have a kid whose fall number was 23 who was a stud hitter. He played some short and some centerfield. Their pitching is gonna be suspect compared to Pikeville and JC but dont count them out. Randy is one of the best coaches in the state and will have them ready to play.
  22. Curly is one of the top ten definitely. Pikeville played them 2 years ago in the All A at Applebees. He through the same velocity according to Applebees gun and had much better off speed pitches and poise than Huffman. Huffman is a dandy and will be a good college pitcher but at that time Curly was more advanced.
