  1. I don't believe that Raceland is currently in this season's plans for WLGC, at least not on FM.
  2. Might I add that I'm looking forward to listening to Red Devil games from far away College-land next season. It should be a very interesting season with Mason County, Simon Kenton, and Raceland as new additions to the schedule - thumbs up to Sam Sparks on those latter two additions. I would assume, perhaps incorrectly, that Drew Abrams will be getting the majority of the carries in the halfback position as opposed to David Bailey. However, both backs have the potential for a very good season. Could we see some three back backfield from the Devils with these two plus the FB Will Rice?
  3. Agree about Woody. To answer your question, I think Clear Channel (the company that owns 107.1) is pulling back from local sports and I believe WLGC has wanted to do Russell games for a few years. I have heard a couple of things about the 1st Down, so I'm not sure if Doty's still has it or not. I do know almost for certain that the Relacore commercials, along with seemingly constant PSA's, are likely to be down this year and that local advertisers are going to have a more prominent position.
  4. SportsCenter was a bit unkind to Homer tonight. SportsNation voted Homer Bailey the worst name of any pitcher in MLB history. Pretty big ouch for a guy who won tonight (which is more than can be said about alot of the Reds pitching on most nights).
  5. Certainly worth the price of admission. Pretty good stroytelling and action, but it is a little rich in terms of new characters. However, I must say that they (the graphics and sound departments especially) nailed Venom. I think that character may be worth seeing the movie on his own.
  6. Pujols can put that K in reverse. Nice pitch by Arroyo to end the inning.
  7. I was three years old when this game was originally played. My parents tell me that it was the first game I ever sat down and watched all the way through. It seems ironic that I got word today that I was accepted to Duke University, for today is the anniversary. I guess I have my own little Blue Devil vs. Wildcat game happening in my own life. With all this having been said, Laettner is still a creep.
  8. Congratulations to Elliot County!! Go win a couple of games at Rupp for the 16th Region. (And then a couple of more for yourselves... )
  9. 7:08 remaining. Could have done better, but its been a while since I was a fifth grader.
  10. The Elliot County 8th grader, Knipp (sp?), hit three big threes spanning from the end of the 3rd period to the beginning of the fourth.
  11. 1:46 left and Elliot has a sixteen point lead.
  12. Elliot Co. leads 41-33 with about 7 minutes remaining.
  13. Finally, four years of Latin pay off... It should be contendere: the infinitive takes an -are, -ere, or -ire ending. I don't know that Mr. March will allow Ashland to go no contest, but I just don't see the Lions taking this one. Winning games in Morehead is far different from winning games on your home floor.
  14. I do believe that everyone in the building knew the game was not going to end technical foul free, however. And deserving or not, Blair was T'd up for talking as was Raceland and both technicals were in the second half. Physical decrease plus talking increase equals more liberal apportionment of technicals for talking. I may not be making much sense here at 12:38, but I think I get what I am saying. Then again...
  15. Gill looked pretty good for having been out a few weeks. He had a very nice catch and dunk I believe in the third quarter. If anything, he was perhaps a half-step slower than usual, but really he was very effective in the absence of VanHoose. The game was extremely physical early on, but after the injuries both teams eased up a bit. What was lost in physicality was picked up in verbage; the technicals conveyed that very accurately.
  16. Yes, as was Tyler Boyles from Raceland. The injuries occurred on different plays.
  17. In the one quarter of play that I saw tonight (which was truly only about half of a quarter with the starters) the Lady Devils looked very impressive. I would agree with Statmaster that Russell is better underneath and the best way to beat them is to force them outside, although this is easier said than done.
  18. There are lots of card carrying members to that club. Russell did very well to beat Raceland tonight after losing their top player for at least the game and at most the rest of the season. Raceland was very scrappy and as usual did not quit until the final buzzer. If Russell has a shot to win the 16th Region without VanHoose, however, it will be because of the play of Jacob Ferguson and the Red Devil defense. Russell still has some of the most talent in the 16th even if VanHoose is gone. I do realize that it is very hard if not near impossible to replace the center-piece of the offense in one week, however. Still, I would not count Russell out completely. They still have a huge amount of senior leadership and a coach that is smarter and better than most people give credit. All that being said, it will be very, VERY difficult if VanHoose is in fact gone. I do want to remind everybody that these are preliminary reports. Nothing is in stone at this point. It is interesting to note, I believe that VanHoose was not wearing his usual knee brace. One wonders if this had any effect, but one will likely never know the answer to the question. Nonetheless, the importance right now is on the well-being of all the players in the game and not the causes.
  19. Russell administration decided to play it safe and take all the signs. Most were appropriate and even the ones that were leaning toward the edge weren't that bad. It was probably a precautious move, but they just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything brewing for after the game. I believe one sign was taken by Ashland after their student section started chanting "They have a sign!" After that, there wasn't much trouble.
  20. Coach Dodd really praised Russell for running his offense quite well in the second half. He also gave big props to two of his seniors, Mullins and Doss, that do not get much playing time.
  21. Could a mod merge the two threads, please. Thanks.
  22. Devils win in a foul-fest Senior night. VanHoose, Blair, and Robinson all fouled out for Russell by about the 1:30 mark in the fourth quarter. Russell was able to maintain its 10 point lead for the remainder of the game. I believe one if not two Lions also fouled out of the ballgame. To Russell's credit, they were able to go about 60% from the line to maintain their lead.
  23. Ashland - (Although it doesn't have an arching roof) The Dickie Dome, Buddy's Playhouse Boyd Co. - The Big House, the Penitentiary Raceland - The Depot, The Palace Russell - The Furnace, Heck on the Hill
