  1. Sam has always been a great player to watch because he is a super team player with very good skills. Congrats to Dixie on a good win.
  2. I do not understand why anyone would questions the Birds' schedule this winter, especially after the first 8 games. They are a very solid BB team and their schedule is a good one. IMO they have been a contender to win the 9th since the beginning of the season and they have the shown the ability to do so. IMO, Dixie has played the toughest schedule of anyone in the 9th and we may see them reap benefits from that come tourney time. They could make for a very difficult first round draw. On any given game, several teams could get red-hot from Trey-ville and pull an upset. But, it's unlikely to win the region unless you can get some points in the paint consistently. Because they can score inside and out consistently, I think that HHS, CovCath and Holmes have the best shots at winning plus they each have some darn good players. I always tend to pull for the underdog since it doesn't look like we will have a dog in the fight this year. Maybe this will be the year we get a surprise winner, but I doubt it.
  3. I have seen most of the 9th region teams this year and believe that only CovCath, Highlands and Holmes are capable of winning the region.
  4. Congrats to Tyler Madlom who signed to play at West Point for Coach Ross. Ceremonies were held at Ryle yesterday.
  5. I think it will help Brossart in the long run to move the game to TMC because they will probably have to beat PC on a neutral floor to get to Rupp. More buckos to the school and better prep for the 10th region tourney. Great move by Brossart even though it could cost them the game with the loss of a true home court advantage.
  6. The district race is wide open with no dominant team and any one of the 4 "main" teams could emerge as district champ. I see a close game in every district matchup so tonight should be no exception.
  7. "I do not look for" and "I think" indicate these are opinions on my part, not true/false statements. I did not say definitively that DJ will not play. And, my hunch that he will not play next year is based on words straight from DJ's mouth last fall. I realize that people change their minds and I do not hold him to what he said in the aftermath of a loss. I personally hope he does play as he is fun to watch in any sport with his tremendous athleticism and he will make Holmes a better football team.
  8. 3) Was #25 for Ryle in the coaches doghouse tonight, it seemed that when he was in he gave our defense a little trouble and thier offense ran better, he like simpson could split the lane and score when needed. He also got them out on alot of fast breaks, why didn't he play more and am i the only one who saw this? Just one fans view from the stands I have only seen about 1/3 of the Ryle games and it seems that #25, Josh Morgan, is their best true point guard but tends to force shots and not give it up sometimes when someone else is open. There does appear to be some disenchantment on his part and I do not know what goes on behind the scenes or in practices that keeps him from playing more. I can definitely see where you are coming from as to Josh being in the coaches' doghouse. Every game I have seen, he makes some impressive moves and can create with the basketball due to his great athletic ability. He made a nice strip on Simpson. Ryle certainly needs more scoring threats on the court at all times so hopefully they can get things worked out if there are problems between Josh and the coaches. I love to watch him play the game as he always hustles and brings excitement to the floor.
  9. I really like the way that Dan plays. He is very talented and unselfish with the ball. I can see him playing at a mid-major D-1 and being a great contributor because he plays well on the perimeter for a big man. His court presence and demeanor were outstanding the night I saw him play.
  10. Yes. I only saw one play the entire game where a Birds player threw an intentional elbow but it was not Ben. I thought he played a very solid game and was in double figures in points, not sure about rebounds.
  11. Both teams battled throughout what was a physical game. The Raiders missed too many shots that they need to make and did not hit a 3 for the game. I thought both teams played well defensively but the Birds D did not allow as many easy baskets as did the Raiders D. Fun game to watch. I continue to say that the Birds are the darkhorse team in the 9th with a chance to win the region. Vories and Simpson are a good guard combo.
  12. Very, very impressive win without two of the best players in the 9th region. Congrats to the Dawgs!
  13. Scoreboard shows 71-58 Dawgs in the game at Campbell.
  14. Ryle did a good job on Howard. Vince Murray and Nick Nelson played very physical vs. Kyle. The trifectas Scott knocked down, especially in the 2nd and 3rd quarters doomed the Raiders and Ryle did not shoot particularly well. They played hard but just do not get the consistent offensive play needed to beat a good team like Scott. I think Ryle went scoreless for 4-5 minutes in the second quarter after leading 17-13 after one. I was surprised to see Ryle in the 60s and Scott in the 70s. I thought the refs let play get out of hand both ways by calling only 7 fouls in a fairly physical first half. There were a couple of bad attitudes displayed by players of both teams and fortunately nothing came to blows. Scott certainly showed to be the better team. As to Kyle Howard, he plays very hard but lack of a perimeter game will be a drawback in college. Hopefully, he can develop those skills. I like the way he plays the game.
  15. If Ryle has a good night offensively, it will be a close game. Ryle plays pretty good D and I doubt Scott will hit 70.
  16. We should be able to hear from Coach Yeagle directly this week. I do wish him well wherever he coaches.
  17. I have no idea who is QB'ing for the Cougars in 06. And, I have no inside info on Holmes, just my gut feeling about Duran not playing FB at Holmes next fall.
  18. I do not look for Duran to return to football at Holmes for his senior year. I think he will concentrate on basketball.
  19. Ryle's 06 schedule Glen Este - Bowl Game at Nippert, I think New Cath - Home Lex. Dunbar - Away Campbell - Away Holmes - Home Boone - Away Conner - Home Simon - Away Scott- Home Dixie - Home
  20. I noticed the assumption by some on another thread that Coach Yeagle will be at Ryle next year. This is not true and is certainly not a foregone conclusion. I do not see Coach Warner leaving Ryle and it just doesn't make sense at the H.S. level to bring in an extremely qualified head coach to assist indefinitely. I would think Conner makes sense if Coach Stellman is really going to call it quits after the '06 season. Mike could assist one year and get acquainted with the players and then take over in '07.
  21. Highlands will be #1 all year IMO. Boone, Ryle and Dixie are arguably even since they split games and all return key ingredients. They will all be close to CovCath and we will find out early since Ryle scrimmages CovCath and Boone and Dixie play the Blue Colonels. If this year's pattern holds, CovCath will beat Boone and Dixie early and then the Rebels and Red Colonels will improve greatly during the season. I do see NC ahead of Beechwood again next year but not sure if they will rise above the Rebels, Raiders and Red Colonels. Ryle battles NC and I heard Dixie plays Beechwood so those games will go a long way in determining if the 1A schools get ranked above the 4A schools in '06. Campbell and SK should be in the top 10 and Holmes and Conner will battle for a spot to climb into the top 10. Most 4A games will be wars next year with a lot of good teams strapping it on.
  22. I think you'll see a battle royale decided late.
  23. Jordan Brady had the biggest game of his career with probably 20 points. The Raiders need to continue to find some offensive firepower. Maybe tonight's win will help build some confidence. They scrap every night on D but have had problems scoring.
  24. Congrats to the Birds. I really think they are the darkhorse in the 9th this year.
  25. Great job, Scott. It's nice to see you guys having a good year after the struggles last year.
