Knott Central has started two 7th graders in the past few years. One is still with the team and will be graduating this year and the other chose not to stick around. Both are very good players. The senior played 2nd and SS and had a DH for him. If the kid can handle playing and is that advanced, I don't see a problem with it.

Wood bat league over the Summer is a great idea. My boys have used Easton, Rawlings, and Mizuno. And the Easton bat seems to have more pop to it. It's kind of expensive, $79, but a good bat. If you are looking for a company that sells in bulk and has a good reputation, Gone Batty is a good deal. Never used any of the bats, but I have heard a lot of good feedback from cusomers. Most of their bats are $29-39 or for the maple bats, $89. If you buy in bulk, they will give a discount. http://www.gonebatty.net

Knott County Central Catcher - Brandon Smith (senior) BA .478, 14 SB, OBP .597, SLG .652, 16 R. Brandon has hit safely in every regular season game this year. And has only struck out once. He's been walked 13 times and takes a lot of pitchers deep into an at bat. No college decision yet. OF - Danny Rose (senior) BA .286, 10 SB, 13 R. Rose has come along this season and his bat gets better every game. No college decision.

The bad thing about the CI, is that that was the 2nd time it had happened to the same batter in less than a week. Both times, he was deep in the box. And clearly in the box.

I knew it. And I'll add that this is one of the new umps. And sometimes these newbies can get things wrong. It's a learning situation. We all have to learn by our mistakes.

Here's one that baffled me. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, batter is deep in the batter's box. His cleats are clearly in the box as he swings. The bat hits the catcher's mitt. Ump called strike. Now, I always thought that if the batter is in the batter's box and he swings and hits the mitt, it's catcher's interference. Ump's explanation was that the batter was too deep in the batter's box and that the catcher had the right to have his glove in that area. Any thoughts?

Congrats to McKenzie. :dancingpa If I'm not mistaken, Asbury is getting the baseball program back and they'll begin playing in the regular season in 2008. McKenzie will be one of many to help build that program back. :thumb: It's good to see that these young men will be playing some Fall ball as well.

Yea, it was quick, but there was a lot of talk the other night at Hazard and Knott Central's game. I believe they had to announce it sooner than later.

This has been a long time coming. A lot of us knew this 2 months ago. Congrats to Holland and Hazard. It should be a great fit for both.:thumb:

Yes, they are the same parents. I wonder if the manufactures are giving these same parent's kids a free bat or two to oppose the ban? :sssh: I hope the ban sticks. It's going to be a tough fight for it to stick. PS, I was being sarcastic when I said I loved their comments. I believe these people are mis-informed and just don't care about the game. Only if Little Johnny gets a scholly to play somewhere.

Looks like a coalition of parents, coaches, and manufactures are going to file a law suit to block the ban on metal bats. I like the parent's excuse and the excuse given by a former coach to stop the ban. NY Bat Ban

Good question. Right off I would say Hazard and Knott Central. Very competitive and can get heated. Perry Central and Hazard is another great rivalry. And Powell and Lee. Those 3 are tops.

Haven't talked about this in a while and after talking to a kid, felt that it should be brought back up. I was at a local restaurant and a kid that I have known for a while came over to chat and say hi. We got to talking about how baseball is doing and I asked him why he didn't come out since he did play on a little league team here. He told me that there were at least 3 that wanted to come out, but after talking to one of the other coaches, not baseball, they decided not to. I asked why and he said that the coach had told him that if they went to play baseball, they wouldn't play that certain sport again while he was a coach. To say the least, I was upset. And I told him that he and the others should come out next season. If that coach kicks them off of the team, they can always go to someone and see what can be done. What gets me about this, is that these, so called, coaches know that college scouts love to see athletes that are able to play more than one sport. Our they are just too... :sssh: KHSAA should have rules to keep this from happening no matter what sport. No coach, baseball, basketball, or football, should never tell a kid not to go and play another sport if that is what he/she wants to do. It's ridiculous, unprofessional, and unfortunate to these athletes. :irked:

Great tournament at Johnson Central. Even though Knott lost the game, they played GRC tough in the first 4-5 innings. Only allowing, I believe, 8 runs. I knew that the Cardinals are a good team and didn't expect to get all 7 innings in. But, Knott Central held them scoreless two innings. Congrats to GRC. :thumb:

We have to make money somehow. I know budgets are tight, right now, in most school districts. But the money that is spent on other programs that pays for nonessential items, (or as I like to call it, nonsense items), can better serve the baseball program with baseballs and some things to help the field to stay in shape. Baseball isn't the only sport that suffers from these items. Softball, volleyball, and cheerleaders. I see these programs trying to raise money all the time. Every little bit helps. So, pay your way into a game, it's helping the program a lot.
