Ouch in deed! Really surprised by the Leslie win. Estill played well all season and Leslie does what it takes when it counts. Congrats to Leslie and goos luck the rest of the way. :thumb:

The score was 13-0. Jonathon Tucker was named MVP of the district tournament. He had a game. I believe he went 3-3, 2 runs, 3 rbi's and pitched a great game to boot.

We also had a play where the ball, after being hit, hit the runner. Interefernce was called. It was a hard grounder to short that took a bounce right into the runner. Not much the runner could have done.

During the Jenkins/Knott district game Monday, a ball grounded slowly up the 1st base line, on the foul side. It then took a curve into fair territory, just as it was getting to the bag. Result, batter out. Batter should have been running as soon as the ball left the bat. But he didn't take off until the ball started it's way fair.

He had 1. But my better half made it easy for him. She "threatened" me.

I've been around baseball a long time. And this is one rule that I did not know about. I've seen it happen a bunch of times and this was the 1st time that I have ever witnessed it being called a HBP. All the other times the ump just called a ball. And, this is the first time I've been wrong and said something about it. :thumb: And... in my 3rd post in this thread, I stated that the ump looked at the scoreboard before looking directly at me. Either way, it was a mistake. :sleep:

No big deal. It's over and done with.

Witnessed this during a tournament. Both teams were affected by the strikezone.

I've seen varied strikezones this season, and like Theoldguy said, "You must adjust." If the ump is consistent, he's fine. Some like the outside more than the inside and vice-versa. If your team adjusts, then you'll be fine.

What really got me was the fact that he looked at the scoreboard, then turned and said that. If he would have simply said the ball hit him, I, probably had been done with it.

So, the ball can hit the dirt and still hit the batter and be HBP? I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up. :thumb: I've never seen that called. And I have witnessed that a few times, but never called.

These words were uttered by an ump during the Leslie County and Knott Central game last night. Leslie is winning the game 11-3 in the bottom of the 6th. Pitcher makes his pitch and the ball hits the dirt and then hits the batter in the foot. He calls dead ball and awards the batter 1st base. I'm standing right there and I say the ball hit the dirt first, as was a few others. He turns around. looks at the scoreboard, and says, "It doesn't matter". That upset me to no end. I asked him, "What do you mean it doesn't matter? Tell me why it doesn't." Then my wife shut me up, which was a good thing. Anyway, That batter ends up scoring, making the score 12-3. Now, what happens if Knott, in the top of the 7th, scores 8 runs? Without that batter scoring, it could have been 11-11. I know that the chances of that are miniscule, but it could have happened. In no way, ever, should an umpire feel that it doesn't matter, when it does to those players on the field. Why take it out of their hands?

Doesn't Little League and AABC allow younger players to "play up"? I know this is like comparing apples to oranges, but the same thing could be said about middle school players that have the talent to move up to varsity. I'm sure coaches will try them out on JV and then varsity against a weaker opponent. If the kid can show he deserves to play, then he deserves it. I'll give one more example. The senior on Knott's team, when he was in 7th, was placed in a game. During pre game warm-ups two juniors were goofing off and coach noticed. While coach was warming up the team hitting balls to them, these same two dropped every ball or let it by them. Coach took them out and replaced them with a freshman and the 7th grader. The 7th grader was playing second with one on. Ball was hit to SS and SS threw to 2nd. The runner broke up the double play by knocking the kid down face first. He gets up, shakes it off and continues to play a good game. He was DH'd that game, but on the field it was like he was a veteran. He went on to play most of the season at short and 2nd.

I can give you a few cases. With the first one that I know of(senior), he's still playing and enjoys the game. He did take the Summer off from playing any ball last year. And he did play one season with the JV football team. He's gotten some looks from a D1 college, and a few NAIA colleges. Hasn't decided on a collge yet. The other played one season and quit after 5 games. His reason was he didn't have time to talk with his girlfriend. Could have been more, but he didn't state it to anyone. There is a couple of 8th graders that started playing last season on JV. As a freshman, they start sometimes, when needed and still play JV. Both of these boys are straight A students. The senior carries a 3.00+. The former player was a straight A student as well.

When Knott had the 7th graders on the field, none of the players complained. They welcomed them and even gave them a few pointers. I really don't see a problem with it. If the program is struggling to find players and the coach can move up a 7th or 8th grade player, so be it. Parents would have to give the OK as well.

To say the least. :sssh: GRC is a good team. And all good teams lose sometime. They'll bounce back.

Not much of and eye opener. Breathitt has some good talent and soe good pitching. What this win states, is that the 14th can go to, almost anyone. If, the oppurtunity arises.
