  1. My memory says you are correct-I think both 2002 and 2003. I know the 06 Seniors (05 football year) lost JV and Frosh level games to the Rocks before winning regular season Varsity in 04 and 05. The 07 Seniors (06 football year) Tigers lost as Frosh but beat T at T JV year.
  2. :laugh:Stop the clock...First TD gives a semi-compliment to Coach Beatty and I agree with RunFirst on something all in the same day. Check out the game-face on the Little Tiger. Great shot!:thumb:
  3. :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared: I'll let you know if I miss a wink of sleep worrying about what you think as well. Have a great day!
  4. Why his name would be important, I can't think of a reason why. He is a fine young man that is currently sharing residence at college with arguably the Rocks best player (prior to being injured) for that season. Obviously, his roomate wasn't put out as much about the act or holding as big a grudge from the alleged "taunting" as the fans here on BGP. For the record, I seem to remember Coach Bob immediately leading his team off the field after being defeated and they more than likely were already on the bus when this picture was taken during the Tigers celebration. Of course, the more time goes by, the more these HS kids celebration gets taken out of context. :fire: FYI-the broom came from the student section in this circumstance as well.
  5. Ox, you hit the nail on the head!!! :thumb: My son and I were discussing this same thing this a.m. Jumping offsides, unsportsmanlike & late hits etc. are a lack of discipline but most holding infractions are definitely the result of the OL being beat on the play and are an act of desperation. Yes, despite being beaten, the Rocks showed some flashes of brilliance last night and I am confident that they will be a better team come playoff time. Newsflash: Those who think that the Tigers won't improve as well are fooling nobody but themselves. I felt like we also left plenty on the table last night and if Ben comes back fully healthy and everything else stays intact the sky can be the limit for this TEAM. Overall, a great effort from the Tigers and a certainly enjoyable victory. My biggest concern with the Tigers is the predictability of the offensive plays. I have a mere 6-7 years of Tiger football spectating under my belt and can accurately predict what play is going to be run about 75% of the time based on formation and game situation. If a baseball junkie like myself can do this, I worry about what knowledgeable DC's should be picking up. GREAT JOB Tigers!!!!! Enjoy the weekend and be ready to put it behind you come Monday at practice while moving on to the next foe. :dancingpa
  6. I heard about that....8 man football, right? Michael is an outstanding young man, student and fine athlete.
  7. I was raised and coached to win or lose with class and it is the same principle that I have tried to instill in my children. The brooms were a bit much IMO but it was also kids being kids and rolled over from the student section. If you don't think the student sections from every school get rowdy and take it to extreme in their enthusiasm-just watch Friday night flights on the news each Friday. Personally, I think the behavior is ridiculous-but rarely would I label it classless. But, as usual, a silly act by a few teenagers is utilized to take a shot at the X coaching staff. Classless is when a player stands at midfield taunting the opposing crowd (including vulgar gestures) instead of celebrating with teammates after his teams victory which is what I witnessed front my front row seat after the State Championship game in 05. The young man was physically pulled back at one point by an adult (presumably a coach) and then went to the other side of the crowd of players and started his act again. When the same adult, corralled the player again, it finally stopped and he went with his teammates. Should the T coaching staff be held accountable for one player's immature actions? Bottom line is one or two players who veer away from the discipline the coaches attempt to instill is not a reflection of the program or the staff. I am confident that the coaches from both of these school's do not condone this type of behavior, but they cannot monitor all of the actions of over 100 teenagers all of the time. Class and dignity flows downstream from parenting and coaches are just a supplement of assistance in building it.
  8. Off the top of my head from the Tigers (in addition to Justin Jeffries and Dan Bick who are already listed) obvious choices...Victor Anderson, Joe Tronzo, Justin Deeley, Danny Zepp, and Nick Schickel. Those worthy of strong consideration.....Michael Mattingly, Derrick Elder (probably at his natural Center position that he is now playing at WKU), KJ Austin-Bruce, Ricky Watkins, and Tim Dougherty. Three all around picks who could have starred at other positions and obviously rank behind BB at QB are Brent Curley, Brian Bishop and Ryan Joyner. I feel like I am missing a couple of obvious choices but these are some that immediately came to mind.
  9. Please remember that these are High School kids that read or hear about the things written on this site. I understand the heat of this rivalry just as much as the next guy/gal but I firmly believe it is possible to post your thoughts without opening the door for criticism of teenagers. IMO there is enough positive information about each team, its players, its tradition and coaches to post about without singling out individuals in a negative light. If you have to point out a weakness of your opponent to emphasize your point, please do it on a team basis e.g. Team A's run defense or Team B's special teams. While I have enjoyed being a BGP member for a few years now, the recurring practice of calling out HS age kids has been a tremendous sore spot of mine. Back to thread topic: Moreso than in recent years, I expect this to be a true battle to the end. Here's to an injury-free game and hopefully a Tiger victory. After sitting thru the misery of the UL game Saturday, I am looking forward to watching some quality football at Papa John's.
  10. Honestly, I thought Coach Nichols overstepped his boundaries on many occasions last night doing exactly what you are saying Coach G is guilty of. I mentioned it several times during the game. That being said, I did observe the 1st half from my faithful old perch in the endzone (toward the Ram side)and moved to the Manual sideline fence to join a Ram parent/friend for the second half so Coach Nichols was in much clearer view to me than the St. X side. With the X staff sporting their new yellow attire, I had a hard time looking in that direction too.:scared: Overall, great victory for the Tigers against a tough Ram squad. I never felt like the Tigers were losing control of the game the whole time but I was very impressed with the conditioning of the Rams-I thought the 4th quarter would be ugly in the Tigers favor due to the numbers and was proven wrong. Ben & Deuce played very well IMO and the defense was outstanding containing Rhayven's speed and putting pressure on Harness. Great win-Go TIGERS this Friday.:dancingpa
  11. IMO Third...as in a fractured "third metatarsal" from being mentioned along the likes of Rick Buehner based on leadership, abilities and record but I may be a bit biased and definitely undereducated on the overall history of X football. I never saw Paul Karem play, but I remember being in awe watching the Rick Buehner led Tigers during my teen years-he kept opposing defenses on their heels at all times. While he had outstanding overall abilities, his keen "football intellect" might have been his greatest asset. I venture to say Brent's strengths were similar and the credit for most of his "field" knowledge goes to Coach Jim Wagoner. I personally think Coach Wags return in 04 was extremely instrumental to the Tigers bringing home the hardware.
  12. If I remember correctly....the comment that caused the stink among the Rock faithful was "that the better team lost the game" or something along that line. :irked:
  13. the Soph class at DeSales is the one to watch-very talented group.
  14. so much for the X radio guys being "homers"
  15. Not Coach Lucas' style. He was a member of the 79 State Champion Butler Bears who plays to win. My guess is he would rather give it all he has and utilize a game against the Rocks to see how his strengths/weaknesses are exposed.
  16. And we all know heaven is full of X fans!!! He might be outnumbered. FYI-had a great conversation about good ole LSU last night with a mutual family member of his/mine. Pretty neat what Rockland did for him-I obtained all the details about the ceremony. :thumb:
  17. That is awesome...congratulations to the young man and his family.:thumb:
  18. Tigers by 17. :thumb: Attn: Colonel fans Any info on where Josh Koebel is attending school and is he playing ball?
  19. I'm sure he has some answering to do to his teammates and coaching staff-hopefully he will learn from his mistake and flourish the rest of the year. Self-inflicted reasons for not being able to play doesn't draw much sympathy here. I have much more regret for players like Matt Smith and Nick Heuser who are just as big of impact players for their team and are forced to be on the sidelines due to injury during one of the most anticipated nights St. X football history.
  20. ^ Great news to hear about the Colts-even better, my favorite Colt RJ put up 6plus some extra points. I have a feeling that with the super Soph class DeSales has they will be making some noise in their division over the next few years. :dancingpa
  21. Classic...enough said.
  22. No touchiness here...just amazed at how the MG boulder that is carried around on the shoulders of so many "experts" doesn't cause severe back problems.        Personally knowing the man very well as I do, I am 100% confident that he finds great enjoyment and personal satisfaction in the fact that his words are so meaningful to so many "informed" individuals aka critics so I guess in reality-he wins. As for the "tightness"...how are you so sure that Coach G's expertise doesn't deserve the credit for removing the player's (understandable) butterflies and leading the Tigers to victory? Newsflash....HS kids get nervous-especially under extreme conditions like last night.
  23. It never ceases to amaze me how every word that comes out of Coach's mouth is scrutinized and twisted to somehow becoming a negative according to a few.
  24. When I arrived, I initially felt some of the weird vibe you are referring to and I think alot of it had to do with the non-preventable confusing atmosphere preceding the game. The heat led to game starting time uncertainty from many with all JCPS HOME games being delayed & in addition, first-time traffic control situations added to this causing the opening ceremonies to start with the stands less than 3/4 full. Many fans were still on their way into the stadium or not yet in their seats. I know I had envisioned the stands jam packed when AD took the mike for the dedication etc. and this was not the case. In addition, when the national anthem was played, half of Ballard's squad was on the track and the other half was still flowing in from the baseball field-I personally feel that every player from both teams should be on their applicable sideline facing the flag when this occurs at any game. I assume there was a miscommunication on this. To add fuel to the fire, the butterflies and pressure showed in the Tigers play during the first half. After uncomfortably roasting in my seat during the first half with minimal air movement and the stands filling with hot aired bodies I elected to select a perch on the fenceline at halftime. Maybe because I have spent most of my time watching the Tigers over the years from a similar position on the fence in the endzone at historic Manual stadium, I truly started to feel the magic of the place at the beginning of the second half. Toward the end of the game when I was able to view the whole Tiger fanbase on their feet from the endzone I miraculously (due to the heat) experienced the cold chill I had anticipated in waiting for this occasion. I think the Tigers have some work to do but it is very hard to gauge the potential of this team with so many key players being sidelined with injury. In talking to the coaching staff, they appear very pleased with the attitudes of this squad and are excited about what they can accomplish. The second half effort by the Tigers showed me that they have the HEART to be very successful if they continue to gel as a team. On defense, there are definitely too many injury holes that need to be filled but I was pleased with how well they did contain and put pressure on the talented Bruin QB when it mattered most. When Matt Smith, Nick Heuser and crew back get back on the field and in full-throttle I look for the Tiger D to be superior. On offense, I thought Ben played like the leader he can be during the second half and Deuce showed he can be the man to go to even though he still isn't 100%. The Tiger running game is solid and has plenty of talent to work with in addition to Deuce. I think the secret of Ben Brown's abilities at TE is now public knowledge and with an occasional surprise by throwing to the speedy Will Simmons, the Tiger O should be able to keep opposing defenses honest. All in all, a historic night in Tiger football with a superb ending after a bumpy start. Great effort by the Tigers and congrats to Coach G and staff. :thumb:
  25. In my era Ballard put out a fantastic RB named Marcus Handley that went on to UL. It was 1979 and the Butler Bears were state champs. Is this who you are referring to?
