  1. From Post #41-"Our QBs are generally asked to do more than hand off the ball and the occasional play action as such it takes time to master everything Cov and Beatty throw in at the varsity level." Appears to be a 2 way street! :walk:
  2. The Colts appeared a bit skiddish in the First Quarter and had some trouble with Seneca's speed early. Once they settled down and made some adjustments they seemed to find their groove and made it a very good game. A couple of passes that were dropped in the first half could have made a big difference. Overall, the Colts should hold their head high-they were in position for the upset and just missed pulling it off. IMO-this is the Colts year to peak with the weapons they have. On another note-I was very impressed with the turnout of fans for Seneca. It was Homecoming but regardless, there seemed to be a lot of school pride and great attendance. As a former public school student, it was great to see the Redhawks getting that kind of support and unfortunately, it isn't as common as it should be.
  3. Awesome Tigers-well deserved:thumb::thumb::thumb:
  4. My bad, singular-assistant is what I should have said.
  5. I was told yesterday that one of, if not the best assistants on the varsity level resigned. Huge blow to the program if that is the case.:irked:
  6. I've always been a Mike Fletcher fan and was pleased when I initially read this. After thinking on it awhile, I'm not so sure this is such a good move for the Cougar program. Fletch is a great football mind but I just can't see him beating the bushes to help encourage more kids into the program like Ray did. Personally, I don't see him sacrificing his Sundays to gain the necessary exposure and draw interest from the CSAA kids let alone seeking out other alternatives during the other six days of the week. This is essential for the future of HC Football. For Holy Cross' sake, I hope I am wrong.
  7. Congrats to Deuce-fine young man and X-cellent Football player:thumb: :dancingpa
  8. IMO-the T-shirts have nothing to do with it. It is neat to now learn something from my son instead of vise versa, but he brought alot of what you stated to light in a conversation we had this Summer. I'm sure alot of his knowledge comes from comparing notes with his fraternity brothers which are made up of mostly ex-Trinity and X players. He mentioned the difference in "how" the two teams condition/practice throughout the season-the X teams start early and stay with heavy contact practices while the Rocks gradually build up contact while continuing to work on strength via weight lifting. This may be why the X teams peak early but are more worn down at seasons end and the Rocks peak later when it matters most. My biggest take on what needs to be fixed is the disparity caused by the "C" factor. I truly feel Coach Coverdale's game strategies provide a 10-14 point difference per "Big Game". No knock on X's coaches because I think they are very very good and match up well overall with the Rock staff-the difference is that Coach C is that great in game-calling. My son came away amazed with his knowledge, which he shared generously at X's Summer passing camp destination. X has made a major improvement ever since Coach Wagoner came back-it may be time to make some more adjustments. Or better yet, have Coach Kragthorpe steal Coach C from the Rocks and fix two problems at once for this Card/Tiger fan.
  9. You two weren't who I had in mind calling out, but at least you are man enough to fess up. Your punishment shall be no gloating rights for at least 6 weeks. Seriously, JS85-this is an outstanding post:ylsuper: A family function prevented me from attending the game so I spent most of the evening visiting relatives with my radio/earpiece in full operation. I had this exact conversation with my cousin (LSU's bro-in-law) which brought out a few chuckles and good memories.
  10. Being a betting man, I would be willing to wager that almost all 137 of these pollsters truly felt as if the Tigers would pull out the victory. I would also wager that of the 48 that voted Rocks, at least half voted with their heart and not how they truly believed the outcome would pan out. A better question is why are many posters in your own backyard obvious omissions from the pollsters representing this whopping 26%. Did they not have enough faith in your team to vote for them? Congrats Rocks-you deserved the victory and pulled off the upset AGAIN! My son pointed out a couple of years ago 2 key areas that obviously take the Rocks to the next level in playoff time to surpass the Tigers and I have to admit he appears correct. Until the Tigers figure it out I expect much of the same. Hold your heads up Tigers-great year and coming up on the short end against a formidable opponent is no reason to get down. We are all very proud of how you battled back to make it a game. X will be back-the 90's weren't that long ago and you never know the next decade may be ours again. Looking forward to it.
  11. stick around awhile...you'll figure out why the "Center" making the tackle is so important to him and why GD mentions the play of one super sophomore alot :lol::lol:
  12. I find it amusing that the T faithful can state that the Tigers clearly have the better team, but when the same or similar words leave Coach Glaser’s mouth it is blown out of proportion. Today in the CJ, Coach Beatty was quoted that if he knew the answer to why his team played “tight” in the regular season matchup he would never lose a game. Could that be interpreted that, according to Coach Beatty, the Rocks would NEVER lose as long as they play loose because they are so superior? I’m smart enough to know that this is not what he meant, but again it would have been interesting to see how Coach G would be berated, criticized etc. if he made the same statement. The Tigers have three championship game losses this decade to the Rocks. When I hear the words “crushing losses” I have to disagree. I would call the 2003 game expected and the 2005/2007 games "upsets". All three losses were deeply disappointing yes, but “crushing”? In 2003 we were in position to be the “spoiler” and did not pull it off-this after getting clearly outplayed during the regular season contest. In 2005 & 2007 the Rocks pulled the upset after greatly improving during the season-both victories were by a “single” touchdown and conversion so in reality a couple of plays or circumstances going the other way could have reversed the outcome. When people act like the Tigers should be embarrassed by coming up short and/or labeled as “choking” I find this mentality ridiculous. It cracks me up when injuries to key players in this matchup have been labeled excuses in years past and this year they are offered as rationale to why execution wasn’t completed. I loved Coach Beatty’s remark this week that the “substitute” players did not fumble or throw interceptions etc. and that they played their hearts out. He is absolutely right-these young men battled as best they could and were thrown into battle untested. I came away thinking Cam Smyth played one of the best overall games I had seen considering the situation and to see on the NFL film series the hits he was taking made me marvel even more. These are high school kids enjoying something that they will never forget and probably not realize until much later in life how fortunate they were to experience it. I have stated on here before that losing a game to Trinity is nothing to be ashamed of considering the talent, commitment, tradition and one of the best coaching staffs in the country that the Rocks bring to the table. The exact same thing could be said anytime the Rocks come up short against the Tigers because they do mirror each other quite a bit. Maybe it is because I did not attend either school that I see this more clearly than others. The bottom line is that two OUTSTANDING programs are going at it again tonight. Good luck to both teams and here’s wishing to a non-injury contest and hard fought game. JS85 is right-anything can happen and guess what-the sun will rise again tomorrow regardless of how it shakes out. GO TIGERS:thumb:
  13. Ditto!!! Wish the game were here so I could attend.
  14. Obviously Purdue and Louisville's coaching staffs think he can or they wouldn't have given him the opportunity.
  15. D1 kickers aren't on the field every offensive play, run back and forth to the sidelines every down to receive plays or play defense like Ryan does either. One botched kick isn't a valid indicator of his "ability" and Ryan does indeed have "it" along with great athleticism and the right attitude to succeed. My son played 4 years with a D1 kicker (UL's Tim Dougherty) so I think I might know one when I see one.
  16. My favorite Colt-QB Ryan Johnson-is still a Junior so he has a while before deciding on college. He has the ability to go D1 as a Punter/Kicker. Fine young man and an outstanding athlete. :thumb:
  17. My point exactly-thanks for confirming. The 2005 Senior Tiger wasn't a "star" while wearing the green/white so he got what he deserved. Fortunately, he learned from his mistake and moved forward while at X.
  18. I agree...he is a stud! Like I said, there are some wearing the Red/Black that aren't near as talented as Wes. Big mistake on the Card's part IMO
  19. My son told me this week that Wes is no longer with the Cards. Considering some of the players that are wearing jerseys for the Red/Black I think they might have let a good one slip away and this comes from an avid Card fan. He was an absolute joy to watch (except for one play at FB:D) play even back in his St. Martha days. On a side note, my father was great friends with Wes' grandfather growing up and he swore till the day he passed that (Wes') Grandpa Harry LaPaille was every bit the athlete of another West End talent named Paul Hornung.
  20. that's exactly why I responded in post #55. Truth be told, Vic was a model student-athlete by the time he left the doors of St. Xavier and his (minor)transgressions along the way were more due to immaturity than anything else. It was pretty neat seeing him briefly in the film embracing Deuce and cheering the Tigers on as usual. Regardless, 2 great programs were represented well in the film and everyone attached to either should be proud to be recognized in this fashion. Different coaching philosophies producing similar success-I see a ton of positives in both based on their records.
  21. Certainly not, he would just get suspended from Winter sports (which he didn't participate in) or for a few games leading up to the "important" one. You shouldn't throw stones when you live in a glass house. :flame:
  22. Awesome show and tribute to 2 of the nation's finest. For me, it was confirmation all over again about how proud and blessed I feel that my son was able to experience St. X and participate in this contest between two outstanding HS football programs. I had lunch with him in Lexington today and it was interesting to hear about the perspectives of both sides since he watched the show with fellow fraternity members which are predominately former Tiger and Rock players. A few added tidbits: 1. I understand why, but I wish they would have given a bigger presentation on the tailgating-it truly rivals many college pre-games. 2. Mike McCormick is the consummate St. X Tiger-the look in his eyes in the locker room said it all. 3. I said it at the actual game and will say it again-IMO Cam Smyth is one of the best HS QB's I've seen. I marveled at his elusiveness, composure and instincts during the game but I had no idea he was getting hit so much. One tough nut!
  23. As they say in New Orleans...DEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUUUCCEE. Great kid...sounds like he's a full 100% now.
