With the girls Sweet 16 moving to Lexington how many championships will be contested in other parts of the state? Gotta be honest, my feelings towards UK aside I'm not a fan of this move. I've been on the sideline for championship games at Old Cardinal Stadium, PJCS and WKU. The atmosphere at WKU was the best and I do think it makes a difference. But as others have stated as soon as the Grocery Bag put in turf it was inevitable.

Iroquois has always been the Raiders but they originally used a Native American mascot. In the PC era that cost us the Shawnee Indians and the Seneca Redskins the Native American Raider became a wolf. Logic being that wolves raid things.

There will be competition for the starting spot. Nick Bohn has the early lead because of experience but Seth Jutz, who's currently playing baseball, will push him once he comes out in the summer. Jake McKean will also get some looks. All three of them have their own strengths and weaknesses so it will be fun seeing who comes out on top.

I know I'm very biased but there has to be mention of Trinity chasing title number 25. After claiming sole possession of the mountain top last season will they get some separation from their nearest challenger? Trinity has a whole lot to replace offensively but their defense looks to be stout. The cupboard of returning offensive talent isn't completely bare. Sr. Rondale Moore will get to play at the outset this year. Defensively Jr. Steven Herron will cause problems for opponents offenses. Trinity's early schedule will be packed with strong regional competition and they could take their lumps early but they will be prepared for another playoff run. Interesting fact Bob Beatty's first championship at Trinity was the schools 13th overall. If Trinity wins number 25 it will be Beatty's 13th title as head coach, more then any head coach in KY history. Symmetry.

I was lucky enough to be on the sideline for the 2011 championship game. Scott County took the opening kickoff and ran thei wing-t to perfection and scored in like 3 plays. Trinity's QB walked up to his line as they took the field and said it's out turn. Game over.

I always chuckled when big ol' smash mouth programs (Ryle in the 2006 state championship game jumps to mind) predicted that they would show that finesse Trinity team what real football was. I think what they and most people now realize is that successful programs have both. Trinity has and does rely on outstanding "skill" players and arguably Trinity's best team, the 2011 "national championship" team had them in abundance but what made that team special was an outstanding O-Line that imposed their will on people.

NCAA D1 council just voted to eliminate 2 a days.

If the idea is to get the kids ready for the first game then why not practice at the time that most mimics game time, late morning or early evening? The in the heat of the day thing is just unnecessary risk as far as I'm concerned. I'm on the record of not being a fan of the KHSAA heat guidelines because they are draconian but there are times that the dangers of practicing at a certain time outweigh the perceived benefits.

The NCAA looks to be moving to eliminate preseason 2 a days. I think D2 and D3 have already done away with them and D1 is likely to follow suit based on recommendations of the NCAA Sports Sciences committee. Should high schools follow? How many schools still do 2 a days?

Another point to consider. For many high school sports (not solely football) have become an avenue to college. Right or wrong kids (and their parents) want them to go to a high school that will give them the best opportunity to showcase their talents.As someone else said, very few colleges anymore are smash-mouth types of teams. Kids will gravitate toward programs where they can show they can do what they'll be expected to do in college.

I think that kids still want to win and it's important to them but if a kid is a great receiver why would he go to a grind it out school? Style matters now.

Another reality to take into account in school districts with open enrollment, what offense do kids WANT to play. In those areas kids have to want to play your style because that can choose to go elsewhere.

Did any coaches and/or administrators lose jobs? If not they should have.

If this is true, and I'm not saying it isn't, then lets just bag HS sports all together and go only with AAU. I guess we could have AAU lineman tournaments, or AAU post player leagues.

Regions 4, 6 and 7 would have had the same teams in football and basketball. Bowling Green, Fern Creek and Trinity. And saying this as respectfully as possible some of those would have been really weak football regions.

I didn't start this thread to bash Bowling Green's schedule, I don't think they are padding their schedule. Obviously what they are doing is working. I just think it would be awesome for the 2 best programs in the state to play each other.

The two best programs in the state currently, no question about that. They played each other before but have stopped. What would it take to get the two premier programs in the state on the field together again?

The crew that called the 6A football championship game was among the most experienced as well. They were still inept. Sometimes experienced just means old.
