It's unfortunate how many people think that HS football in KY started in the late 80's.

I wonder how long it's going to take for someone to mention the only National Champions in this thread (this post excluded).

It's certainly fallen into a solid tradition, but change is inevitable. In the 50's, people probably said the same thing about Male and Manual. Now people don't even recognize the fact that Manual won the national championship.

I think we did just see that. Wow.

Fern Creek had some SICK players in the mid 90's. I got to play with a few with the Louisville Bulls a few years ago, and even though they were likely past their "prime", they were still pretty dang good.

I've talked to a few coaches and not one of them said Nichols let Weiter go. Going from OC to Head Coach is an understandable move. I'm not even sure where to start with the other things.

I still get a kick that we're listed with the "D's" and Louisville Male isn't listed with the "L's". If anyone tried to talk to me about a school named "duPont" I would just have to make fun of them and their ignorance.

Congratulations Coach Weiter! I wish him the best of luck, and I know J-Town will be better for having him. I'm VERY curious what the coaching situation for Manual is going to become now.

Manual 2001. Definitely the best comradary of any team I ever played with, plus we went 9-2 and beat Male in Coach Nichols' first year as head coach. We were the underdog in SO many games only to end up dominating. The two worst memories also came from this season... giving the game to X after having a decent lead with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and barely losing to PRP in the first round of the playoffs.

In respect to their opponents, the 1959 Manual team was the best. Obviously with time comes better coaches and players, so a number of teams in the past 50 years could have beaten them if there was some sort of vortex that allowed all teams of all time to play each other. But the best team I ever saw/played against was 2002 Male. And since 2002 Trinity beat them, then ding-ding-ding we have a winner.

I would probably vote for St. X, too.

I think I'd put Florida over Texas. Sure, Friday Night Lights doesn't overstate football's importance in Texas, but it's my understanding that Florida produces the most as far as football goes. I could very easily be wrong on this.

You're right, I apologize, I wasn't actually trying to put down Eastern, I would've ended up going there myself if I didn't go to Manual, I was just saying I haven't a clue WHY somebody would be transferring from Manual. It strikes me as kind of odd is all, but if it's what the kid wants then more power to him.

I don't know this kid personally, nor do I know anything about him really, so don't anybody take this as part of the rumor mill. But the only reason I've EVER heard of anybody transferring from Manual is grades. ...Wait, I take that back, one girl freshman year transferred because her twin brother went to Seneca so her parents wanted to make things easier by having them both go to the same school, or something like that. But I know plenty of people who go/have gone to Eastern, and most say they wish they had gone to Manual, so if he really is transferring to Eastern, I wish him the best of luck.

Hardyhar, good sir, but while we're pointing out our own negative qualities, I'm a slacker, and don't click on links very often. I was under the impression that they would upgrade not only the lights but the bathrooms and locker rooms as well.

I can't wait to see what they do with it.

Fan-freaking-tastic... let's just hope they'll follow through. I've been hearing a lot of talk the past few years with little action - and all the action that HAS taken place has been done by the boosters and the players.

How about Manual with two National Championships? (sure, they were before many of us were even born, but you KNOW other teams would brag about it if they could)

Congratulations, Central!

For Manual, it's hard to get a lot of community support, considering Louisville has so many great football programs dividing the masses. Heck, it can even be hard to get student support considering the number of brains that could care less about sports. Plus - not saying they are less supportive - but since the population of girls typically outnumbers the boys, girls are simply less LIKELY to be supportive of the football team. That being said, the amount of support that IS given is pretty great, considering the above scenarios. The rivalry with Male is defintiely a huge factor, with Spirit Week, and the boosters are always able to exceed expectations, considering they are usually working with minimal resources. The school itself provides a fair amount of support, with pep rallies and getting signs painted and put up around the school. The crowds for the games have been pretty decent as far as I can tell, of course I remember as a youth going to games where the stands never felt remotely full. So we've at least improved in that aspect even if we don't bring in the biggest crowds.

Manual-Male And not just because it was the only HS game I went to this year, but it really was one of the best performances I've seen from a Manual team in a while. Plus they beat Male. Plus it was at the Pizza Box. Plus I had a cute girl with me. All in all, a GREAT night.
