Not that Rice and Henderson were bad picks, I mean Rice scored 23 and 26 in the two final games and Henderson played lock down defense on Profitt and Jones and had 18 in the final game, but Hill was the most consistent scoring atleast 20 every game.

IMO Walls was so good because of his supporting cast. When you have that many talented players around you, every team can't key on you. Pettigrew on the other hand had a huge target on his back EVERY game. HE put up 28 against Holmes at Holmes and that was the most any player put up on Holmes this year...and we all know their defense is pretty solid. I think a darkhorse should be Holmes' Austin Hill. He averaged 20 PPG, 6 RPG , shot 93 % from the free throw line, and 42 % from 3 point range in the state tournament. He was also 9th region POY and averaged 19 PPG during the regular season. I think a Mr. Basketball is someone who not only puts up a lot of points but also has the assists and rebounds to go along with it, because yea you can put up 25 points a game, but if you aren't getting your team involved and helping out with every aspect, you're only good at one thing...scoring points. That's just my 2 cents, but I think Pettigrew is a more deserving candidate.

I never said they practiced with a coach. It's usually a parent volunteer who will come after school and basically stand around in the weight room while they work out then during the dead period in the summer the girls will have fun practices where they basically scrimmage once or twice.

I know Holmes has been practicing since the end of last season. They play in a khsaa sanctioned summer league and fall league, work out during the winter then are on the field feb 15th.

Holmes had a coach a few years ago by the name of Eric Hammerle (SP?) who played at Rice University when they went to the College World Series and mde it to the final 4. IMO that's pretty big. He would have went pro, but only one problem. He was the #2 behing Brian Wright who pitched for the Indians and Yankees.

I think if a kid has their location down and throws a decent fastball, its OK to teach them the curve ball. It really depends on the maturity of the kid IMO. But if a kid is say 13 or 14 and already throwing mid 50's maybe low 60's, there is no point in teaching them the CB because they will already be dominant with their fastball. I've umpired games and saw 7 and 8 year olds throwing curveballs and one kid even throwing a knuckleball. Now thats too young.

Doesn't Tom Browning work with some of the nky pitchers?? It's either him or Mike Lefevre I'm thinking of.

I know at Bourbon Co at most home games they will have trucks out in right field and people will have lawn chairs set up in the back of them drinking "soda" and have their radios on. I can remember playing first base against them and well let's just say they weren't very nice to our right and center fielder.

Looks about right to me. Ryle will be the deepest and most talented team this year. Their experience will really show against some of the better teams. (CCh, St Henry, HC) CCH is always a solid top 3 pick. As for the rest it's wide open. Holy Cross and St Henry will knock off a few top teams, but IMO as one person stated before, it's a two horse race with CCH and Ryle. The 35th will be a dandy to watch this year. 3 of the top 5 teams reside in that district, but IMO Beechwood needs to prove themselves a little.

Congrats to those young men. They all sat back in the shadows of OJ, Bill, and Ellis, but they proved they can get the job down as well. IMO though, the big 3 showed those young men how to win and that confidence carried over to this year.

Congrats to both Rice and Henderson from Holmes who made the team. Rice- 17.7 PPG 7.3 RPG Henderson- 12.3 PPG 6.3 RPG I was verey surprised to not see Austin Hill on this list. He may have been in the top 5 in the whole tourney scoring wise. Hill averaged 20.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in three games. He made 15 of 16 free throws for 93.3 percent went 7-of-17 on 3-point shot for 41.2 percent.

Congrats to the Scott Co Cardinals. I said whoever won the Holmes Sc game would win state, and SC didn't disappoint me.

Great run for the Holmes and it's sad to see it end. Congrats to Scott Co, you were obivously the better team today. As for he Holmes seniors, you MEN have accomplished so much this season and should have nothing to be ashamed of. You were one of the top 4 teams in the state of KY. Up until the end of the regular season, there were a lot of nay sayers but you proved them wrong. Good luck to all of you in the future.

Sc is a good team, don't get me wrong. But I think some of you are failing to realize just how good they are. Scott Co has knocked off one of the top teams in the country, but that doesn't make them invincible which some of you are implying. You have to look closely at the match ups as strongopenyon is. To be honest, I expect SC to win, but it will be no blow out, and if it is, I'll gladly eat crow. Henderson vs Walls is the key match up. Rice IMO will be the quickest and most athletic big man on the court, as he proved today against SL. Hill is probably the most physically strongest player out there in this match up. But as FANOFTHE11TH said, the key to whoever wins this is Rebounding. Holmes isn't as big as SC, but if they can box out and force SC to go over the top as they did with St John, then SC will be in trouble.

Almost all of Holmes points in this tournament have been lay ups or short jumpers. Duran does a great job at penetrating and dishing it off. I think this is much more effective against a zone than moving the ball around and settling for a jumper.

If SC plays man to man the whole game, they might have a little trouble. I don't think they can match up with all 5 of Holmes starters.

And that's why they'll be sitting in the stands tomorrow instead of playing. Trust me Holmes used to be the same way until Covcath showed them if they want to show how good they really are, they're going to have to play team ball because everyone already knows how talented they are. IMO this was the best TEAM ball I've seen Holmes play all year. Everyone was on the same page. That's bad senior leadership on both hammonds and Proffit's part. You can't have a SELFISH PG....Duran has scored a combined 7 points in 2 games but he's not complaining. Everyone has to play their role. Rice, Henderson and Hill are who's going to win the game for Holmes, but they can't do it without Duran's passing ability and Nelson's rebounding/defense.

What kind of defense does SC play?

Ballard wins this by 5-10. Too much firepower on that side. I look for a big game out of Beckham.

Once again...key to the game...Henderson vs Walls. The past two games, Henderson's defense has been the game breker. He shut Profitt down today and frustrated him the whole game and did the same with Perry. If Henderson shuts Walls down, Holmes wins. As far as the other players go, I think SC is going to have trouble guarding Hill and Rice. Winner of this game wins state IMO.

They didn't go inside because Holmes front court did such a good job forcing them to take outside shots by denying the post men the ball.
