No O.J. No Bill? No problem N. College Hill 3-peats

Who needs OJ Mayo or Bill Walker?

Unranked NCH beat No. 1-ranked Findlay Liberty-Benton 50-45. 20 points from junior guard Damon Butler led the way. NCH tied the Ohio boys’ basketball record of three consecutive state titles shared by Dayton Stivers (1928-30) and Columbus Wehrle (1988-90).

Butler is a pretty good player, glad to see Mahaffey wins one without the three superstars.

I don't think so, Butler was solid with OJ/Bill and Ellis in tow, one heck of a 4th option for NCH.

I don't remember the kid's name but NCH has a kid on their team that may walk on at UC who is missing his middle finger on both hands (birth defect).

Didn't Ballard beat NCH this year?

Yes .....

The kid that cshs81 is talking about is an absolute stud guard and can leap out of the gym. I believe he was being recruited by a couple of schools including Auburn. Saw him play in Bellevue's X-mas Tourney against Lockland and he was dominate inside and out.

This kid sounds like a great talent, I know you said walk-on but is he good enough to be on scholarsip with a major program??

Impressive feat for North College Hill ... maybe Mayo and Walker weren't as instrumental to their success as first thought. ;)

Considering NCH had a very poor record the year before O.J. and Co. showed up, I don't think it hurt their program much for them to be there. It raised the bar high for NCH and the after effects are still showing. Taking nothing away from the present players that won the championship, I don't know that you'd have the same results if the circus had never come to town.

Congrats to those young men. They all sat back in the shadows of OJ, Bill, and Ellis, but they proved they can get the job down as well.

IMO though, the big 3 showed those young men how to win and that confidence carried over to this year.

Yeah, but they won after the circus left town and left them high and dry ... that's good enough for me.

I guess Mayo and Walker weren't the whole team ... the supporting cast wasn't bad after all.

I for one never thought the supporting cast was all that bad. The level of competition they were playing against when OJ and Bill were in town made them look a lot weaker than they were.
